Here's a picture I found in a junk shop on my way round here. It will brighten the place up a bit I think. Over the mantlepiece maybe.

@cicerone imposter,
Happy Birthday, Tak, and Happy Birthday, Gene.

Yeah, I think of Palo Alto as having generally great weather.

@the prince,
If it's the drink you're looking for, here you go!

(If the drink is not what you want, I'm afraid you're going to be waiting a verrrrrrrrry long time on Jacques. You might have better luck if you ask Carlo. He'll be back again tonight.)

@izzythepush,
That sounds good, izzy! How lucky you are to be able to grow raspberries where you live. It's too hot for them here. I'll be in the Pacific Northwest in about 3 weeks, and I'm looking forward to the fresh raspberries there.

@cicerone imposter,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, C.I.!

I didn't know it was your birthday... 77? WOW! That is definitely worth celebrating. So here's something to help. I made it myself. (Sorry it's so big, but at least there will be enough to share with everyone!)

@Eva,
It is good, but the crops not as good this year, it's too wet, and a lot of them start rotting before they ripen. Having said that, enough of them have made it through.

@Eva,
Oooooooh, I'm plain old jealous, Eva (I know the word is envious, but jealous rings right to my ears).
The food market in the area of the embarcadero (is it Saturdays?) is a mind boggler. But that's only the one I know, I'm sure there are many others.

@Eva,
Does not the expression "Wine Cellar" conjure up images of underground Bacchanalian indulgence and licentiousness?

The elementary domestic science and greeting card industry ambience is hardly fitting with such illustrious imagery.

What a surprise it would be to be strolling along The Gut in Malta ( aka Strait Street) and be attracted by a sign Eva's Wine Cellar and find inside a bunch of folk discussing salads.

@spendius,
Spendius, there is a very fine line in here between the real world and the virtual.
And I do not mind crossing it.

@cicerone imposter,
A very happy birthday for the 8th CI.

I love the chandelier, lights hanging from the windows and all the floral decorations. I used to Manage Restaurants for 17 years and functions were one of my favourites, if I was allowed to have a hand in the decorations.. There is something warming and calming and beautiful about lighting and floral arrangements Smile Looks like you all had a fantastic time...

@FOUND SOUL,
The table flowers were prepared by one of our mutual friend who used to work at a florist. She was also an educator. All we did was choose the colors of red and white which matched the over-all decor.

Actually, since she did work for a florist at one time, we asked if she knew where we could purchase the table flowers. She volunteered to make them for us.

Why is it I can have two cocktails of vodka and cranberry and be fine the next day but if I have two glasses of wine I wake up with an awful headache?

@jcboy,
Some wine does that, and you may be on the bad end of that. Wine has never botherd me, different genes.

@jcboy,
I remember many years ago when people used to say mixing different drinks like wine, beer, and hard liquor didn't mix, and you would end up with a headache.

It never bothered me to drink hard liquor and wine or any combination of drinks.

Because, after a few glasses, you don't count so good!

Um, how big were the glasses?

For me it’s the same with beer, I really don’t care for beer but I’ll have one once in a while, but two? Two beers will also give me a headache.

@roger,
hehehe, just regular size wine glasses. I asked my doctor that question once and he told me it could be sulfites in the wine. Of course another doctor might tell you something else. I think they take a guess at your question most of the time.
