FYI, arthritis can strike a person at any age and is often observed in children (especially rheumatoid arthritis).

I was first diagnosed with arthritis when I was in my mid-twenties. Thirty years later, I'm still here and so is the arthritis. Somehow, we learn to cope.

Anyone seriously interested in arthritis might want to take a look at www.arthritis.org.

Very Happy

Thanks for reminding me of the term, "juvenile arthritis." Much better than my wording!

Well, the doc released me from further treatment. He said finish the Celebrex and call for an appointment or not in two weeks. Thanks for being there with me, people.

Get rid of the Celebrex and convert to holistic medicine.

I went to the doc this once in seven years. I made the decision beforehand that unless he were an obvious incompetant I would follow his instructions to the letter. Once I am free from his orders I will chart my own course. I am deeply into alternative methods of health treatment.

Don't you have a physical exam every year?

I am a believer that a doctor is a "partner"in my medical care. The are areas of medicine, because I have not had formal medical training, that I leave to the "experts". Beyond that I too chart my own course, picking and choosing what I consider the best of conventional and alternative medicine!

In charting a medical course, it helps to have attended medical school, served an intership and a residency.

On the one hand you're telling me to disregard my doc and quit taking Celebrex. Then you're telling me I need to constantly see a doc. Why see him if you are not going to listen to him?
My own course that I have charted involves doctors now and again. But, I believe we are responsible for our own health first. So I do all I can to be healthy. I only bother the doc when I have a problem.

edgar, There are some things about health that we cannot possibly self-diagnose. Prostate cancer, high blood pressure, hep A & B, and some others are difficult to catch early and treat, and these are the things that are killers. Hope this makes sense. c.i.

My feeling is that I must partner with my doctor. Ultimately, however, I "chart my own course." My doctor understands and appreciates my stubborness. If he didn't, I would find another doctor.

I think c.i. has given you several areas in which you need to seek proper professional medical advice.

(BTW, take the Celebrex!)

I've opened myself up to helpful suggestions and I really do appreciate all your concerns. You do not know my whole story and I balk at opening up further. In perhaps a month or so I will begin a new thread that further illumines my thinking on such matters. Thanks very much for your kind words of support.

Edgar:

Do you mesure your own PSA?

Have you checked your colon for tumors or unknow masses?

This is why each person needs a routine PE and blood chemistry performed by professionals and at 1-2 year intervals of time.

If you now have arthiritis, do you also have osteoporosis?

If you only visit an MD , when you have a problem, you're doing your body a disservice.
