Wait till your back starts to yell at you, Edgar.
New Haven
No need to manufacture new ills for me. LOL Actually, I have always been careful of my back. Even before I was taught how to lift things, I knew instinctively how it was done. As a father who moved his family without help a number of times, I learned how to balance weights and let them do most of the work - learned to use my legs, not my back for much of it. If I injure my back I predict it will be due to some freak accident.
The back is unpredictable. It can go out on you when you least expect it. I remember once when I didn't even really bend over, but was throwing something in the kitchen trash can, and it went OUCH! c.i.
I know a great deal of back troubles. My wife has damage to her back and does therapy. My sister was involved in a wreck that very nearly left her in the same state as Christopher Reeve. Another sister has had a back operation. My best friend not only has a bad back; his wife has had three spinal operations. I have a new helper whose back is shot. The list of such persons appears endless. I would never say "It can't happen to me" for these very reasons.
Few things as painful as arthritis of the spine.
New Haven- Do you have arthritis of the spine?
I've had a second therapy and my arm has regained almost total full function. I predict that within the week this will be like a bad dream for me. Only thing, I will try preventionj from here on.
Edgar, There's a very interesting article in today's San Jose Mercury News - especially about drug costs. It mentions a drug called "Enbrel" to treat rheumatoid arthritis, but it costs $625 for 25 mg. It's not covered by most health plans, because it's not a generic. Are you using this drug for your treatment? c.i.
c.i.- Sounds like edgarblythe has osteoarthritis, which is totally different from rheumatoid arthritis!
Phoenix, Thanks for that clarification. However, since many also suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, I thought it was interesting enough to include in this discussion. c.i.
This is the first I've heard of enbrel. Honestly, all I know is what the doc said about me: "You have arthritis." He did not elaborate and did not hang around to chat. He was off like a wild turkey in the wilderness.
Phoenix:
I don't have arthritis.
Interesting how quickly the MDs cast an Rx into the patient's hand.
Too many unpleasant side effects with celebrex.
NH, Good link on enbrel. Thank you. c.i.
I am aware that most drugs now available have potential side effects. I only take what I feel is essential. Celebrex and the pain pills are the first drugs I have taken in about seven years.
I suspect your diagnosis is based in part on your age.
I believe that were it not for the bone spurs I would have labored on in blissful ignorance.
