Hi Edgar, Too bad about your arthritis in your shoulders. I always had the impression that arthritis usually affected our appendages. Goes to show how misinformed most of us are about this dilapatating disease. However, not too long ago, I read a medical article that chloresterol meds in the statin group helped relieve arthritis. At 60, maybe, you should ask your doc if your chloresterol is under control, and if not, to recommend a statin med. Might help. I wear a brass bracelet that seems to help my hand, especially during the cold weather. My wife just started to complain about arthritis, so I loaned her may bracelet, but it didn't help her at all. c.i.
I'm a newbie at this - never had a twinge. Now I have one practically useless arm. This doc is a specialist (I started at the top). He assures me there is a good probability it can be resolved without surgery. I will have my first therapy at 7am Monday.
Edgar, You have our best wishes. c.i.
Thanks. I need all the positive reinforcement I can garner.
I have total faith in myself and in the doc. No way it can fail to get better.
Arthritis is very common today. One of the best meds for it is aspirin, if you don't have stomach ulcers.
Went to therapy. I was given an oil about the shoulder area and then massaged by something that put heat deep in the tissue. Then som pads were placed about and I recieved electrical impulses through them for twenty minutes. I came away feeling fine. I experience no discomfort, except I still only have forty percent rotation. Well, it's just one sesssion. Got to have patience. Funny thing - I moved my washer up the stairs using an appliance dolly about an hour later and experienced no discomfort for that operation.
Things are looking positive there, edgar. Some of us with similar ailments may want to consider your kind of therapy. c.i.
Sorry, Phoenix. I don't know how to slow down. I do pace myself and don't do it if it seems likely to do harm. As of the past few hours I can raise my hand above my head for the first time in over a week.
Go with Phoenix on this edgarblythe do not push your luck.
Seriously you need to take it easy or your pain will be back in a heart beat and you do not want that.
Degenerative joint disease...no real cure for it!
New Haven- True that you cannot cure degenerative joint disease, but it can be controlled. I do it every day!
They told me from the first that it is better to use the arm than to baby it. I took them at their word. Frankly, I feel wonderful, except for a bit of discomfort when I move the arm wrong.
Can control pain and inflammation in many cases, but not all.
edgarblythe- There is a big difference between not babying your arm, and moving washing machines. I would say that you would be wise to go about your daily business, but not go overboard!
