Oooohhhh, so, new fridge and new oven....
I hate my floor more than you do.... I just know it.
edited to spell 'than' correctly.
They're not brand new. They're about 5 years old.
Osso, you're so funny. I forgot to tell you that I saw Pacco's twin a couple of weeks ago in Iowa City.
OK, the spelling has gone to hell. Time to go to bed. Night everyone. Thanks for being interested in my kitchen.
I suppose the twin was barking....
5 years old is brand new to me!
I'd replace the floor too Swimpy. You've got a good
size kitchen there, and I think it will look great once it
is finished.

LOL -- six a.m.!
Did you ever find out if there was wood under the linoleum? I like the green cupboards too. (I know this is before & it's all going to be changed but still.. nice taste you've got.)
Btw, I was thinking of your kitchen yesterday while at Home Depot. I may have found the sink I want -- it's a built-in formica and the entire thing is smooth and sort of dropped in, but really it's just all part of the same countertop. A dream to clean, I'm sure. I couldn't stop & check it out in detail (I was there to look at a Kohler Cimarron toilet), but oooooooh. I want maintenance-free stuff next time.
Lilk, I've been slowly replacing my appliances over the last few years. They were all about 25 years old except the fridge, which was older. I've been planning this remodel for a long time.
CJ, Definitely, that floor is outta here.
Piff, Still haven't found out about what's under the linoleum. Have to wait until the cabinets come out. About that sink, are you sure it's Formica? I've seen Corian sinks before but not Formica.
Watch out for formica. I used formica counters when we did our re-do in Venice, and when the house was finished and I was just about to sell, one evening I decided to polish a sterling silver pepper grinder. When I put it down on the counter it wasn't completely dry of the polish.
Next morning, ring and blotch. Sigh, ruined the whole counter and it wasn't in a place you could put some charming pad over it. I used some sort of artist's varnish very sparingly to mask it. Grrrrrrr.
Corian... yep, that's what it was.
Thanks... my mistake.
Yes, big difference in what you can place on it...
There was such a smooth line between the countertop & the sink that it reminded me of dentistry. I am sick of cleaning out little tiny crevices & corners.
Well, the cabinets are scheduled to be delivered to the kitchen designer's place this week. The contractor said the tear out will happen starting Monday. I'm ready! Let's get this remodel rolling!
Ok, rolled up my shirt sleeves, I'm ready to watch this.
Who was saying that they had a Bosch dishwasher? I can't remember. Anyway, I got one, too. The Fischer Paykel was about $700 more than the Bosch. The Bosch will do small loads on the top rack and it's supposed to be really quiet. In fact I was at someone's house last week that had one running, I was sitting right next to it and could barely hear it.
They're tearing out the kitchen as I type. A couple of discoveries already. Under the back side of the cabinets is written in pencil, the date the cabinets were made (Spring 1949), the cabinet maker (Ed Kruse who was a neighbor), and the year they were installed (1950, the year the house was built.) In another place behind the cabinets on the wall was written the birth of the owner's son, Jack, in 1961. That portion of the cabinets must have been added after that. My father was a friend of the previous owners, who built the house, and he told me they were childless. Jack must have died.
I wonder if that's part of why they covered that part of the wall... :-(
Interesting, though.
How will you handle regular kitchen stuff while the reno is taking place? Lotsa takeout?
Yea, lotsa take out. I've got the microwave set up in the computer room and the kitchen table, too. We can make sandwiches and such, but with no kitchen sink, we'd have to wash dishes in the bathroom. I don't think so.

I don't have a Bosch dishwasher yet, but as soon as my old one
brakes, I'll buy a Bosch. There are the best on the market and ultra
quiet on top of it. Good choice Swimpy
