Troll's cool. Did you see this?

Quote:
SEATTLE (Reuters) - An adventurous gray whale that had found its way several miles up a river north of Seattle appears to have turned round and found its way back to the ocean, wildlife officials said on Thursday.

The juvenile whale, about 20 feet in length, was found swimming up the Skagit River, about 60 miles north of Seattle, and was believed to be in a smaller river last week.

Seattle and the Skagit river are located about 100 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, but are connected to the larger body of water via Puget Sound.

I'm glad he found his way out. I'd missed the story completely.

When I was a kid in CA there was a humpback who somehow got lost in the Sacramento/San Joaquin River delta -- Humphrey, they dubbed him. Took him a long time to get out.

whales are fresh water tolerant?

I am willing to travel so long as I can figure out how to get from point A to point B. I am going to bet that I can get my friends and family to come with me, but we all still may travel P-Transit. I just don't know. I am free, on vaca, you all work. So, whatever is easy for all of you as a whole.....

They-all work, maybe, but just now I'm unemployed... gonna have to put a stop to that soon but meantime, my Tuesdays (and Wednesdays, and Thursdays...) are, if not free, at least easy.

Pdog, there's pretty good Ptrans to Udist -- all the 70s go there from downtown (only about 10 minutes), there's buses to Bothell, Bellevue, Ballard... and Ravenna. BUT most of the establishments that serve alcohol are 21-and-over-only.

Doc Watsons might be cool... It's a McMenamins, isn't it? And there is still enough Fremont left in Fremont, especially if you weren't here ten years ago (or even five)...

And, piffka, there's another whale up a river somewhere around here. They don't know if it's the same one, but it's about the same size/age, and last I heard was about 10 miles upriver...

Dad Watson's is indeed a McMenamin's pub. It's interesting how successful they've been. I go down to Portland a lot, and of course, they're all over the map there. I normally eschew anything corporate if I can avoid it (Starbucks, chain book stores), but I make an exception for the McM bros. Mainly because they create pubs that always seem to blend in with their neighborhoods. They have one in Eugene, the High Street, that is totally suitable: a funky old house with picnic tables in the yard....

Anyhow, Dad's would be cool. I guess it should be up to littlek, since she's the visitor and has a tighter schedule than we locals. I'm off Tuesday and free after a cultural outing in the afternoon. So, if we can solidify a plan on Monday, that would be swell. I'll be the guy in a blue Atlanta Brave cap...

Have a real nice trip! ...

Be careful though, when those Seattle area A2kers see what a charmer you are, they're not gonna want you to come back to Beantown!

OK, got some ideas in the email.....

The Elysian is a new brew pub and in my friend's neighborhood (dunno how excessible it is to all). (A second, she doesn't name (hahahaha) with good fish'n chips....). And the Pyramid Brewery.

Have you all any opinions about this?

The Elysian is a good choice: brew pub, good menu and kid friendly. I recommend it! For the locals: it's in lower Capitol Hill, right near the East Precinct Police Bureau...

I don't care where you all meet as long as you do, good grief. And further, that once you do , you send out feelers to the rest of us.

Hate to tell you this, but people care if you meet and don't kill each other.

My friend thought the Elysian would be the 'coolest' spot to meet.

I think I may have to bow out, I'm sorry. I live a little too far away from Seattle to enjoy an evening out and then a long drive home alone. Littlek, please call me if you think you'll want to see the Tides & Gig Harbor or if you want to meet at the Market on Wednesday morning.

Re the Elysian--It just hit me that there are now two of them. The original place (the one I was referring to) is on Capitol Hill, close to downtown. The other, the new one, is by Green Lake, I believe.

littlek, do you know which one your friend lives near?

Not to worry, osso, we're peaceable folk here, for the most part. Except for special festive occasions, such as WTO conferences...
