@edgarblythe,
It helps to keep things in perspective. Cosby's behavior was criminal, but Dustin Hoffman's was just inappropriate.

@Setanta,

I'd never watch one of [Woody Allen's] movies again.

The allegations against Allen were never proven, though. Innocent until proven guilty, anyone?

Allen marrying Soon Yi Previn is not an allegation, it is a publicly recorded fact. That he acted as her father when he and Mia Farrow were in a domestic relationship is not an allegation, it is a well-attested fact. That he is 35 years her senior is not an allegation, it is a demonstrable fact.

Remember kids, that member only comes here to argue--and not because he has a point, but just because he likes to argue.

@Setanta,
None of these facts points to illegal or even immoral behaviour.

The point being: innocent until proven guilty. It's a pretty big point.

In my opinion, anyone who says that a man who is almost old enough to be a girl's grandfather, who acts in loco parentis toward that girl, whose parental relationship begins when the girl is ten years old and whose partner (Mia Farrow) finds nude photos of the girl in question in his apartment is not morally bankrupt is him- or herself morally bankrupt. He's a self-centered creep who took advantage of a parent-child relationship. Anyone who attempts to defend that behavior is just as creepy as he is.

@Setanta,
To me, anyone who accuse others of moral tuemrpitude without any fact is morally suspect.

Picasso: Women are goddesses or doormats.
I always considered much of his art as abuse against the women in his life and have refused to honor it.

@edgarblythe,
I wonder now. If we ignore the works of every artist who ever disrespected women (or men) in any way, what art are we going to be left with? Walt Disney's?

E.g. the Taming of the Shrew is problematic from a feminist perspective, thus let us ban Shakespeare?

Gretchen Carlson (formally of Fox news) penned an essay on sexual harassment.

Quote:
In the essay, published on Tuesday in Lenny Letter, Carlson wrote, “this is not a partisan issue, it’s a cultural one.”

“Boorish behavior transcends ideology and political lines, despite the fact that there are many who seek to blame Democrats for Harvey Weinstein’s behavior or Republicans for Bill O’Reilly’s,” she continued. “It is not liberal to ask for a workplace where you are not fondled or groped. It’s not conservative to expect to meet with a man without having him dangle his hotel key or ask you to sit on his lap while he has an erection.”

Why?

Because he is a perverted piece of trash and I didn't want to hear his music any more, and I felt like trashing them. Giving them to a "thrift store" would have conferred upon them a legitimacy they did not deserve.

Actress Asia Argento has described a report that Harvey Weinstein used ex-Israeli agents to spy on his accusers as "terrifying".
The New Yorker reporter Ronan Farrow has published a story claiming Weinstein used private investigators to try to cover up sexual abuse claims.
The Italian actress and director has accused Weinstein of rape.
Weinstein's spokesperson denied that "any individuals were targeted or suppressed at any time".
In his New Yorker story, Ronan Farrow alleged that the film producer employed two intelligence companies, Kroll and Black Cube, to try to collect information on several women and on journalists trying to expose the allegations.
Black Cube advertises itself as "a select group of veterans from the Israeli elite intelligence units". The New Yorker said they included former members of Israeli spy agency Mossad.
After the story was published, Argento tweeted: "Why didn't I, @rosemcgowan, @RoArquette @AnnabellSciorra speak up earlier? We were followed by ex-Mossad agents. Isn't that terrifying? Very."
Italian-American actress Annabella Sciorra, who starred in US TV series The Sopranos, and US actress Rose McGowan, have also accused Weinstein of rape. He has denied all allegations of non-consensual sex.
Farrow's report alleges that two private investigators from Black Cube, using false identities, met McGowan to "extract information" from her in an effort to stop the publication of abuse allegations. One of the investigators is reported to have posed as a women's rights advocate.
McGowan praised Farrow for his investigation, writing on Twitter that "your words will line the halls of justice".
In a statement, Black Cube told the BBC it was its policy "never to discuss its clients with any third party, and to never confirm or deny any speculation made with regard to the company's work".
But the company said it "does not get involved in family disputes or sexual harassment cases" and "applies high moral standards to its work, and operates in full compliance with the law of any jurisdiction in which it operates".
It added: "Black Cube supports the work of many leading law firms around the world, especially in the US, gathering evidence for complex legal processes, involving commercial disputes, among them uncovering negative campaigns."
Sciorra told the New Yorker that the alleged use of private investigators by Weinstein had scared her "because I knew what it meant to be threatened by Harvey", adding: "I was in fear of him finding me."
The New Yorker also reported that one intelligence firm held a profile of actress Rosanna Arquette, who has also accused Weinstein of sexual harassment.
Weinstein's spokeswoman Sallie Hofmeister dismissed the report, saying: "It is a fiction to suggest that any individuals were targeted or suppressed at any time."

@centrox,
Someone who casts doubt on the veracity of the Holocaust isn't likely to get a moral argument. Now if your reasons were economic...

After the very respected children's author William Mayne was sent to prison in 2004 for historic sexual assaults on young girls, his publisher withdrew all his books, and the Guardian obit in 2010 said his conviction sounded the "death knell" for his books. I find Lostprophets records tainted too. Mind you, I enjoyed Adolf Hitler's science fiction novel "The Iron Dream".

@engineer,
This interests me a lot.
I am wondering if harassment is growing, and if so why.
I was born in late 1941.
I was a sort of naive girl but not stupid, and I don't remember routine harassment, really at all, until the big one, when I was raped in my early twenties. I wasn't ugly, so that didn't send the fleas away all the rest of the time, before and after that. Besides, "ugly" could mean worse.

I am guessing this had more to do with what year it was and where I lived.
I've no idea of the stats on all this and don't want to chase the stats to find out.

It may be that I lived, by the luck of the draw, even when my family collapsed,
in places thugs dressed up for, such as my aunt's bungalo.
Still, I don't remember this groping stuff going on all over the place.

I also lived in Venice, CA for years, once in design studio, later with home. I can't afford to go there now, heh. I met my husband there, but he wasn't a groper type.

So.... are all these groping fits due to TV, movies, or media promotion? do men now walk with tentacles out doing feelies?

What makes you think I don't understand the moral argument here? I didn't challenge centrox's emotions.

And what makes you think that I doubt the veracity of the Holocaust? You're referring to a thread I started. And in that thread I made it clear what I was casting doubt on a specific aspect of the narrative. I made my case, and if you believe that you can cast doubt on the accuracy of my findings, you are welcome to try.

Now, I'm not going to call you a lowlife coward who indulges in cheap shots from the peanut gallery, but I would certainly have a good argument if someone challenged that assessment. If you believe I was in error in my findings concerning the Zyklon B issue, come on down:

@izzythepush,
What? I haven't even read the rest of your post - Ronan Farrow is a New Yorker reporter?
My parents knew Mia's parents quite well. One of bits of jewelry I had as a kid was a cross gifted by John Farrow, later stolen from a loft in Venice, CA. I still have a religious item from him to my dad.

Oddly, I just this week signed up for the New Yorker as a long time subscriber, a clear search by them for subscribers. I'd subscribed for decades
but can't afford it. But, this one time deal, and I can read it again for a year.

I have some photos he might like to have from way back when. My dad was head of photo for the army air force, back in the day.
