You need to keep in mind that CNN is to the right of much global media, as much as you'd like to portray it as leftist. It is left of Fox News, but it is not leftist.

You need to keep in mind that CNN is left of center for Americans. It is the same as Fox being right of center. CNN being not as far to the left as "global media" is immaterial. Many nations are far more liberal / socialist than America. We have private healthcare, less entitlements, etc. Obviously the more liberal point of views in far more liberal countries are going to be more liberal than a left leaning news source in America. CNN (much like the alphabet networks here in America) lean left for our politics. Nobody in America cares whether CNN is considered right of center news in France. Americans aren't grading their news sources against whatever you mean by the vague "global media". CNN is actually leftist for America, whether you want to admit it or not.

Anyway, I highly doubt that Fox News in Canada will be much like it is in America. I am fairly sure that it will have its own canadian feel to it. I don't think Fox is as blatantly biased as some would paint it. Fox basically puts spindoctors for both sides on...officially names who is on what side, than lets them argue back and forth. I got the feeling it will garnish a decent audience after while.

So far none of you Canadians have denied what I have said. You're just saying I'm all wet. I wish I could think of the title of that other thread with the polls re Canadian opinions of Americans.

Who exactly are "you Canadians"? It's "we Canadians", as in "we the people", a phrase I'm sure you are familiar with.

I don't know Foxy, but I'm gonna recluse myself from this debate because to tell the truth...I've never watched a single minute of Fox. I have no idea whether it's slanted.

"You" Canadians are the ones berating me here for my observations. Smile

In fairness to Cav and ehBeth, however, I did find this Pew research poll that suggests Canadians may not dislike Americans as much as their youth and media do.

Smile Nice post. 'Youts' tend to shout out of their asses. I think that article is probably closer to our similarities and differences.

It was my journalist friend who introduced me to the concept of "rugged individualism" actually. I may not agree with a lot of his political positions, but we still seem to be able to find common ground. I've always thought that was the Canadian way.

Well, as long as "you Canadians" have Gordon Sinclair, there will always be hope. Smile

Just digressing, but how does a Canadian know they are getting old? They remember Ian, not Dave, as the 'famous' Thomas brother. Smile

OK, I'll bite. I'm not an old Canadian (just a middle-aged American) but I was a big SCTV fan, so I loved Dave Thomas. Who was Ian?

Painted Ladies
Ian Thomas (1973)

I remember setting out just to see what I could see
Streetcars rolling by and airplanes flying high they all meant nothing to me
No one ever looked my way or knew that I was there
I kept walking and the rain kept raining
Until all the streets were bare

Ooh ooh feeling fine mama
Painted ladies and a bottle of wine mama
Ooh ooh Feeling good mama
They took my money like I knew they would
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la

City lights were shining on me through my window pane
I kept thinking 'bout the day when I'd be home again
Rocking chairs and summer fairs and swimming in the sea
I kept drinkin', sinkin' 'till there was nothing left of me

Ooh ooh feeling fine mama
Painted ladies and a bottle of wine mama
Ooh ooh feeling good mama
They took my money like I knew they would
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la

In April 1973, Thomas signed to GRT Records and immediately released "Painted Ladies" which became a monster hit across North American; the song reached No.4 in Canada and No.34 in the United States. He won a Juno Award for 'Most Promising Male Vocalist that year.

During this period he also produced a two-hour CBC Radio show called "The National Rock Works" which also featured comedy and became a showcase for the talents of his brother Dave Thomas -- future SCTV alumnus.

I want to tell radio-friendly guy Ian Thomas, younger brother of SCTV alumnus Dave Thomas, that the wrong guy went into comedy.

Turns out the guy who paved his radio gold with Painted Ladies, Right Before Your Eyes and The Flyer is a funny, funny man.

And a voluble speaker, in town tomorrow as a panelist for the Songwriters Association of Canada Songshop workshop at the Crowne Plaza.

He knows about the various degrees of success. There's his brother's level of success, with all the Hollywood trappings of television series, feature films, gold records. Then there's his kind of success.

"My success didn't take me to No. 1 on Billboard, but it's made me comfortable. My moderate success has given me a better life. When Dave became instantly recognizable with the Bob and Doug thing, he lost his life. He couldn't go anywhere. Still can't.

"Any notoriety that I had is gone. Nobody recognizes me since I lost my hair. It's the best of both worlds."
