Aussies target Indian fansSHASHANK SAKSENA/TIMESOFINDIA.COM

India's thrilling win at the Adelaide Oval has raised the hackles of Australian fans.

As Dravid was putting Australian bowlers to sword, Indian supporters in the stands were being treated to a volley of verbal abuse.

They were called racist names and many said that they "felt in danger".

Even Mahatma Gandhi was not spared. On Sunday, the officials organised a competition to find the "spectator of the day", the finalists included six white men who had painted their skin brown and worn nappies and turbans to resemble Mahatma Gandhi.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Indian fans and journalists were being called "coolies" and "curry munchers" at the Adelaide Oval and in Brisbane.

An Indian executive, who has works in Melbourne, said for the first time in his 15 years in Australia, he feared for his safety as he left Adelaide Oval on Friday night.

According to the Herald , Indian journalist Sambit Bao said, "Yesterday I was walking around the ground and a man threw a bone at me and saying,`Here, take it'."

Some Australians even dragged Saddam Hussein into cricket. The Herald quoted an Indian fan as saying: "People were calling us Muslims and singing out about Saddam Hussein."

A group of Indian fans who call themselves the Swami Army (a counter to England's Barmy Army), staged a marchpast on the hill on Friday, only to be pelted with plastic bottles and cups, the Herald reported.

"They were abusing us as well and there were full bottles of water thrown," said an Indian from Adelaide. "They called us curry munchers. Most of them were youngsters."

The hate tide is affecting the morale of Indian supporters. An Indian and his friend decided not to go to the stadium on Monday as they were abused the day before. "It's disappointing because in India the Australian fans were treated very well, with respect."

That is disgusting! I heard they had to eject a lot of hooligans from an earlier day of the match - disgusting.

Yes - I did hear there were some unpleasant incidents! Sheeesh! It's only a game!

And such a game. Almost to the end of the 5th day before there was a result, after spectacular first innings scores from both teams. I was listening to it through the headphones at work, and was apparently making some strange noises. So close!

By the final test in Sydney in January, we should have most of our bowlers back from injury, to make a much tighter contest (read better Aussie chance). Steve Waugh's last test, before a home crowd, Glenn McGrath'll be there, and I'LL BE THERE!!!

And- you're already disturbed! Twisted Evil

Now that's the weirdest bit; why would any sane man wear nappies? Question asked and answered. Nappies?

Notwithstanding this, I don't think that you should be slighting Australia just yet. As you know, this kind of thing happens a lot in England (did you see that disgusting undercover documentary in which Police recruits cause fights, dress up in KKK hats, and try to scare the only Asian guy out of training?) That is a reflection of the minority, not the majority.

The nappies were just coincidental to the costume, I understand: the individuals in question are incontinent.

Oh boy!

Hmmmm - perhaps some of the stupid behaviour was about a whole generation of young eejits having grown up without seeing an Oz defeat?

I heard it was a great game - pity I weren't on hols - I quite enjoy watching the odd spot of cricket when it is stinking hot - but pity the poor players!

If it weren't for the inherent benefits, I would relinquish membership in my gender.

Well, like I said, but for the inherent benefits.

But here's a relevant anecdote. Two christmases past, I was doing a politeness-minded visit to my ex-wife's sister. She's apparently being going through some counselling (god knows who with) and after burning one, she got the notion in her too-stoned noggin that I'd probably want to put on some of her clothes. I'm fairly rubbery about life experiences, so told her to set me up. Heels, I found, are even more unmanageable than I had conceived. But the short black skirt was just fine. In fact, she got pissed off because my bum was better than hers.

Men have different lip margins in general - no clear definition between lip and face - hard to do the lippy. But - their bums ARE better...

I agree with dlowan - men have much much better bums - but then I may be a bit biased!
