Bernie is somewhat attracted to bizarroness methinks!
Hey - I am just about to have a bath with eucalyptus and lemonbalm bathsalts. It says it is a "traditional European bath mixture".
How can that be true when it contains eucalyptus?
Sorry if I misunderstood, somewhere in your tale of woe someone, was it the boss, says you got the first mis-cut six weeks ago?? That was untrue?
Who do you tip in OZ? And how does tipping have anything to do with wages? It's about service.
Yes, that was totally untrue.
Joe - we tip almost nobody in Australia. In areas like hospitality etc we have much better wages for people, so it is not necessary for making ends meet.
Tipping for good service will happen in restaurants - but there is nowhere near the same pressure to do so as there is in the US. I often tip when I feel service has been reasonable (if I have money!) and always when it has been good. Some people like to tip a lot, others almost never do.
Almost nobody would tip in places like hairdressers (I have never heard of it).
I stay in hotels here very seldom - I guess I would tip someone who carried bags etc - but it is not necessary.
Taxis and such - again, if you want to - but not expected. I would normally just not worry about change much.
Australia is just not a tipping culture. We have minimum wages, minimum hourly rates, penalty rates etc. This is gradually being eroded under economic rationalism - and there are some people on minimum wages who find it very hard - but working two or three jobs, just to make ends meet, and needing tips to live, is not a feature of lived here.
I think you will find, in the US, especially in expensive cities, that people rely on tips and it is expected that they will be given.
Servers in restaurants definitely depend on tips, the minimum wage for servers is a special rater (very low) of $2.25 hour. It might be fractionally higher than that, but that was the rate as recently as five years ago.
Hey, dlowen.
How much did you pay for your haircut? I'm always tipping. Maybe I should stop with the haircutter. I pay $20. for a cut-- Because I know she has to pay a portion of my fee to the owner of the salon, I hand her an extra $2.
Is it different in Oz?
When i go to visit Lovey, i get my hairs cut at a shop a few blocks from her house. I get a first class job done, an' it costs me $17CAN, which right now runs about $12US. That's dirt cheap by standards at home. I always give Miss Maddie a $5US tip, i'd give that much at home, and she appreciates gettin' the US cash without havin' to worry about the exchange rate.
If your hair were as curly as mine, you'd understand.
Dys hasn't had a haircut since 1979. He has saved a bundle in tips.
Hmmm - I can't recall how much it was - way over $20 though - hmmmmmm - maybe $35?
The cutter is paid by the salon owner - NOT directly by me - she will be on an hourly rate - there will be a minimum, negotiated by her (sadly very ineffective) union. Salon owners are free to pay more.
Where the smeg IS everyone? I have been off line for some time - I return, and see me still plastered all over the place as the most recent poster!
How boring is THAT?!
I was out checking the price of hair cuts.
Ain't that kinda like you pricin' brassieres, Boss?
$35. for just a cut...
I wouldn't tip, either.
Dys--you have the best arrangement. I'm letting my grow long, too. But, I gots to get it shaped once in a while.
I always, tip, and usually generously. It is difficult to find someone who cuts my hair well, and when i find such a hair dresser, i stick with them. And i reward them amply to encourage them to do their best.
...or you're scared you're going to get butchered...
I gots a head-full of wool, Boss, naturally curly hair. I've had "sylists" with 20 years of experience who did their best, and butchered it anyway.
Has anyone else noticed the compelling similarities between dys and a certain Doonesbury character?

LOL!
Now - HERE is an Ask Auntie Lowan question - but I do not know the answer.
I am on a thread which is discussing accents - and I had a wonder.....when we are having sex and orgasms and such, if we are vocal, and I assume we are, do the sounds we make have an accent?
I tend to think the vowel sounds do, a bit.....
(Lola gonna be here reeeeeal soon!)
