@McGentrix,
Here's the first example of Trump's EO.

He's already trying to defund Obamacare.

@maporsche,
Isn't pointing out the hypocrisy of your political opponent the reason the internet was founded? I'm pretty sure it was.

@maxdancona,

Doing a little research... I just found out that according to Pew women are more likely to be pro-life (i.e. state that all or most abortions should be illegal) then men are.

Not according to the study Cheddar-boy supplied earlier:

Quote:
Majority of women, 54%, now pro-choice, vs. 46% of men

@maporsche,
MaPorsche, the women Baldimo knows likely already agree with Baldimo. There are lots of women who are questioning and even criticizing the Women's march. We Americans tend to cluster with people (men and women) we agree with politically.

Saying that women "offer a different perspective on what being a woman means in America" is ridiculous in the implication that women all think alike. As I pointed out 42% of women voted for Donald Trump, and more women are pro-life then men are.

And for your question... phrases like "sexism is dead" or "racism is dead" or "rape culture" are highly objective and not very important. They only have any meaning when you are talking people who already share your world view. Women have vastly different views among themselves about what "sexism" means, and minorities vasty different views on what "racism" being "dead" would mean.

Facts are important, and the most productive discussions (particularly between people with different points of view) are ones that are fact based.

It is frustrating when liberals make emotional arguments that are designed stifle questioning and ignore facts that don't agree with their world view. This frustrates me from conservatives too, but as a liberal... it bothers me more.

@McGentrix,
Not surprising that this ignoramus takes away health insurance from 16 million Americans without regret. He's a cold hearted idiot.

@maxdancona,
I agree with you all about listening to other perspectives than your own. And, I try to live by this in my interactions here.

I think that the idea that a man can't form an opinion about sexism, or a White person can't form an opinion about racism is ludicrous. Listening means listening to the points, checking the facts and considering the arguments fairly.

If a White Man (and I am pretty sure tha MaPorsche is a White man) then forms an opinion, it is a valid as anyone else's opinion.

When writer asserted that Beethoven's Ninth Symphony was an example of "rape culture", I read about it and thought about it. Then I decided that this was laughably ridiculous. My gender didn't not prevent me from making this judgement.

@ehBeth,

wouldn't it be best to ask women you know about this?

I did ask my fiance about it, and she didn't really have an answer. I also don't know how she voted other than it wasn't for Clinton or Trump. We do indeed share some views and core values, but we do disagree with a lot when it comes to politics. In fact, she was a Bernie voter prior to the DNC screwing them over. That should tell you something about her thoughts on certain subjects.

I really don't understand why a group of men is asking each other these questions

I was asking anyone who wanted to answer the question. Max just happens to be one of the more polite posters here and took a shot, even though I know he has some issues of disagreement with the stated reasons. Pay gap is one that comes to mind.

Talk to women you know. You've got a life partner - talk to her - talk to young women your sons know. Find out if any of them know people who attended one of the marches. Talk to those women. Ask them questions. Listen to each other.

Of the direct women in my life, my fiance, my mom and my older sister, none of them are the type to get involved with political marches or movements. It is already on my list to ask them their opinions the next time I talk to them.

@Baldimo,
Thanks for responding.

I didn't understand people who supported Mr. Sanders, so I don't think I'd want to guess what they (as a group, or individually) think about things these days.

Obviously people can ask anyone anything, but if they're wondering why people are doing things it's likely best to ask the people who are doing those things. I asked women I knew who were marching why they were out - I also asked their husbands and kids why they were choosing to march. People that I asked all had their own set of reasons, some overlapped, some were very (to me) unusual. I learned a fair bit by asking. I suggest others do that - ask the people involved. It may also be useful to ask people why they chose not to participate.

Do you know any women who voted for Trump and think that the woman's march is wrong? 42% of women voted for Trump, and many women are speaking up against the march. Do you listen to their opinions on the matter?

If you listen to the women who disagree with you about what "women's rights" mean, then your posts are not as hypocritical as I first thought.

If you only listen to the women who already agree with you... that kind of misses the point, doesn't it.

Unfortunately for Trump who fails to understand how our government works, congress controls the purse string.

I think you meant to say:

"I hope Trump makes English this nation's official language. That would be great." You could have also used a semi-colon there, but a comma is definitely incorrect.

Any post about making English the "official language" should be written in proper English.

Remember back to about 3 weeks ago when everybody thought governing through executive action was the best?

@Frugal1,
I hated most of George W's executive actions. I liked most of Obama's executive actions.

I don't think I am any different than you in this (other than the politics are switched).
