Powell said the FCC wasent going to stop the broadcast but would investigate it after it was aired if requested. Surprise surprise!
People writing to Sinclair advertisers, here's a Lowes Response:
Thank you for your comment regarding concerns about advertising on the Sinclair Broadcasting network. Lowe's does not advertise in political programming. We will not advertise within this political documentary, nor will the company's local advertising appear anytime during the day this documentary airs.
As far as advertising on the Sinclair group of stations as a whole, Lowe's advertising agency is in contact with Sinclair to learn more about the program, and our company will make a decision about future advertising at a later time.
Lowe's has a strict company policy specifying that its advertising is not to run in controversial programming. The company advertises primarily in national, network prime-time television programs and on select local stations and cable outlets. Because Sinclair owns 62 television stations reaching 24 percent of all television households, some Lowe's advertising may appear on those stations from time to time, but again, not in close proximity to the controversial documentary you mentioned.
What is the difference in F/911 and this Sinclair Broadcast documentary on Kerry? Why is it ok to slander our President but not ok to slander Senator Kerry?
If Sinclair's is wrong then so is the F/911. I don't see the difference.

There were lies, distortions and manipulations in F/911. StolenHonor will portray the truth, as seen through the eyes of the POWs that LIVED through Kerry's traitorous testimony and secret meetings with Hanoi.
That's why Kerry is so scared.

Really?
What's the penalty for not watching?
Documentary's are fine by me if they tell the truth...Michael Moore concerns me on all levels...not just the F/911. I didn't see the DNC jumping at arms when he put out his version of "truth".
that's like me pulling out my dick at a private party or in a crowded restaurant.....which one is sure to have a penalty attached?
for the sake of the argument assume anyone would notice at all
Moore said F/911 wasn't a documentary so much as an op/ed piece.
Maybe that's why he thinks he can get away with the lies.

ahhh..pull out the semantics argument....boring.....
????what a great analogy....not.
What every happened to politicians stating their views and the public not trying to stir up dirt...just give us the facts...
Has there ever been such a time in this country?
actually it's a good analogy because the problem lies in the manner of deployment....

Agreed. The difference between cable and airwaves is negligible. I watched an anti-Bush "documentary" the other day on the Sundance channel. I assure you I never specifically requested that I receive the Sundance ChannelÂ… so what's the difference?

No, there never was. Politics has always been a dirty business.
I wish I got the Sundance channel. What bugs me is, you buy a cable package and you're stuck with what they give you. In this case: two religious (i.e., fundamentalist Christian) channels, three or four shopping channels (I lose track), and several others I could live without, including the Golf Channel.
Can you imagine how the cable companies would resist the idea of customers paying for the channels they actually wanted?
That day is a coming D'art... either that or the everything package will become irresistibly cheap.
We just have to be patient while competition works it's magic. Remember when phones were so expensive you had to rush through the dreaded "long-distance" calls to keep the price down? My Cell phone now comes with all the bells and whistles including unlimited use including long-distance for a flat $55 per month.
I hope you're right, Bill. Cable bugs me because it's obvious they're getting $$ from both sides: the consumer and the networks. Surely, they must be, or why else feature all that crap (multiple shopping and religious channels).
I know there are audiences for both, but it's hard to believe they're only sending the customers the most popular "free" channels.
Good evening, D'art and all. The cable companies do and will continue to deny us the choice for a la carte selections of the channels we want or don't want to pay for. But that will change I think in the next couple of years.
I was talking to one of my employees about Sinclair. Andy belongs to the very small group: "Goths for Bush."
He asked me why it is that it is and has been appropriate for newspapers to endorse candidates. It's been that way forever. But radio and tv stations can't overtly do that. I mumbled something about the tremendous power that radio and tv have and the FCC regs in place.
"Forget about radio," he retorted, "Radio is banal. Who cares? And tv?
It will follow radio."
I must admit that I am troubled by the consolidation that is going on in the newspaper and radio/tv industries but at the same time I marvel at the amazing new alternatives that technology is offering people.
The challenge is to make sure that the new technologies are made available to all of us at the same time. -rjb-
