I just made a post advocating it as an option. She was probably thinking of my post.

@oralloy,
There are other military means to prevent a NK nuclear strike.

MOAB carpet bombing for one.

US verses North Korea?

I *KNOW* we can win a nuclear skirmish.

How would we lose?

It shouldn't be considered a pre-emptive option.

What about those cases where a preemptive strike is by far the least bad choice?

Imagining the worst case scenario.

Even if we launch a conventional pre-emptive strike, we know we're goading The Fat Prince into trotting out his favorite toy.

If I were President even if NK used a nuke I wouldn't respond in kind...For two reasons. First any non-nuclear response could NEVER be condemned and second, we don't need to use nukes to completely decimate their military capability...Hell we won't even need to put boots on the ground initially. Will some NK civilians die in the attack...Yup...But there are only 2 rules in war...Rule #1, in war People die, rule#2, ya can't change rule number 1.

How many this time, Dr Strangelove, 10, 20 million?

You do know that this is a clear indication of evil. oralloy is definitely on your side.

I doubt it.

MOAB's have to be carried by cargo planes that North Korea could easily shoot down.

And carpet bombing by conventional weapons (even MOABs) would not destroy targets fast enough to take down an entire country before they have a chance to strike back.

Well there won't be a preemptive US nuclear strike.

Bet on it.

@Finn dAbuzz,
That depends on North Korea more than on the US. If a nuclear war is imminent and inevitable, an American president is not going to be inclined to sit around waiting for enemy nukes to come raining down.

Another possibility is North Korea making the first conventional attack, and the US opening with a large nuclear salvo in response to North Korea's conventional aggression.

Respectfully disagree. Cruise missiles can take out anti-aircraft while simultaneously launching moab's... That's just one scenario.

Boys and girls let's not all start practicing Duck and Cover. If, and that's a big if, North Korea deploys a nuclear device it would probably amount to only one such device.

There will be no exchange of nuclear devices by any country such as the US Russia China Pakistan Israel or whoever. And the reason is very simple there is no profit in it.

Yeah, it's not like the US is the only country to have ever done this evil a deed, twice, with plans for many more deeply evil deeds, is it?

Cruise missiles can only destroy known locations. Not useful against mobile radar/SAM sites. Not useful against fixed sites that we don't know about.

MOABs are simply not powerful enough to instantly kill an entire country before they have any chance to react. If North Korea manages to destroy Tokyo (or Chicago) while we are still in the process of destroying them, we'll have failed.
