And you have to believe people who speak for Trump because the past record of such voices is very good. Also you have to believe Trump because he's like Jesus on the whole truth thing.

Related what-a-****-show news: there are still some people in the United States who proudly self-identify as Republican.

I'm confused re the London mess - I have taken it there were three victims and one dead killer - is that wrong? Are we missing a fourth name?

Quote from above:
LONDON — The knife-wielding terrorist who killed an American tourist and three others outside the U.K. Parliament was British-born and previously investigated for "violent extremism," officials said Thursday.

@ossobucotemp,
You're not wrong just not up to date, a 75 year old man has subsequently died quite recently.

Quote:
Police have identified Khalid Masood as the man who carried out the Westminster attack, as the death toll rose to five.

Masood, 52, was born as Adrian Elms in Kent and was shot dead by police. He had not been the subject of any current police investigations.

PC Keith Palmer, 48, Aysha Frade and US tourist Kurt Cochran, 54, were killed on Wednesday, while a 75-year-old man died on Thursday evening.

I advocated for a recess appointment too. Garland would have only served for two years, and then he would be out.

Trump would have still ultimately filled the Supreme Court position. But Trump would also have been able to fill Garland's former position on the appeals court.

And landing with a resounding "thunk"...

Quote:
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) on Thursday released a new score for the revised plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare that Republican leaders are struggling to pass through the House.

The CBO find that the latest version of the healthcare plan contains significantly less deficit reduction than the original bill, but would lead to essentially the same levels of coverage losses and premium increases.

I saw that too. I was a little surprised and actually disappointed. After thinking about it I remembered what my sainted grandmother advised "when people tell you who they are, believe them". I really shouldn't be so naive to assume others possess admirable character, you know, like men and women who refuse to trivialize themselves by trivializing others. It's not the first time I was surprised by someone's candid side, I doubt it will be the last.

Some stupid bullshit commentary that has nothing to with anything deleted here.

Trump should be demanding a vote. People are tired of this ****. Time to see where our representative's stand. 8 years of trying to repeal Obamacare and now is their chance. Lets have a vote and then see who won't be getting any party support for their next election.

I must have missed this. Tell me Edgar. Why are they called illegal immigrants?

Could it be because they broke the law by entering the country illegally? Do you consider someone that starts their residence as a criminal as a person that has a lot of regard for the laws or people of the US?

Also, how in the hell do you say this with a straight face?

Quote:
I believe the illegals are less criminal than the average citizen.

an illegal is a criminal by definition. So, how are they less criminal than anyone? On average, every illegal immigrant IS A ******* CRIMINAL.

I don't see why you can't connect that in your head.

That statement is pure bigotry.

Of course it is. This is the sort of statement that arises out of anger. It is a far too broad and irrational rejection of all such individuals. If we consider people coming from south of the border, most are serious Catholics, for example. Most hold values regarding family which are broadly shared on the American right. Most are extremely hard-working. By far the most do not commit crimes other than residing in the US without proper authorization.

By way of contrast, we could compare with some of the Russian Mafia types presently living in Trump's hotels. But legal re immigration status.

You always have to compare things to worse things, huh? "Of course it is."

It's not bigotry, it's the truth. Thankfully, you are Canadian and your opinion is only worth abouth 3/5s of an Americans. But Edgar has this **** all backwards in his head. I blame the shitty education system he went through. That an the pablum Blatham feeds him every day.

Quote:
Using data from the Government Accountability Office (GAO), state prison systems, and Pew, we were able to compare rates of major offenses in states with sizeable populations of illegal aliens.

For example:

Arizona: Approximately 240 illegal aliens were imprisoned for homicide-related offenses. This means approximately 68.57 illegal aliens were imprisoned for homicide offenses per 100,000 illegal aliens in Arizona, whereas 54.06 citizens and legal residents were imprisoned for homicide-related offenses per 100,000 citizens and legal residents in Arizona.

California: Approximately 2,430 illegal aliens were imprisoned for homicide-related offenses. This means approximately 97.2 illegal aliens were imprisoned for homicide and related offenses per 100,000 illegal aliens in California, whereas 74.1 citizens and legal residents were imprisoned for homicide and related offenses per 100,000 citizens and legal residents.

Florida: Approximately 480 illegal aliens were imprisoned for homicide-related offenses. This means approximately 54.85 illegal aliens were imprisoned for murder and manslaughter per 100,000 illegal aliens in Florida, whereas approximately 67.8 legal residents were imprisoned for murder and manslaughter per 100,000 legal residents.

New York: Approximately 1,350 illegal aliens were imprisoned for homicide-related offenses. This means approximately 168.75 illegal aliens were imprisoned for murder and related offenses per 100,000 illegal aliens in the state, whereas approximately 48.12 legal residents were imprisoned for murder and related offenses per 100,000 legal residents.

Texas: Approximately 900 illegal aliens were imprisoned for homicide-related offenses. This means approximately 54.54 illegal aliens were incarcerated for homicide-related offenses per 100,000 illegal aliens in Texas, whereas approximately 65.43 legal residents were incarcerated for homicide-related offenses per 100,000 legal residents. As you can see, in three of the five states above, incarceration rates for murder and manslaughter were far higher for illegal aliens than for legal residents.

Incarceration rates for murder are an imperfect proxy for rates of murders committed (illegal aliens may be more likely to be apprehended, have less competent counsel, etc ), but it’s difficult to contend that illegal aliens are more law-abiding than legal residents — at least when it comes to major crimes. And it’s even more difficult to contend that Americans’ concern about crimes committed by illegal aliens is overblown.

Regardless, comparative crime rates are less important than the absolute number of crimes committed by illegal aliens. Look at California, where approximately 2,430 illegal aliens are in prison just for homicide-related offenses. Even if one assumes that each illegal alien so imprisoned was responsible for just one homicide-related offense, that amounts to about a couple thousand major crimes that, arguably, wouldn’t have occurred but for the actors’ unlawful presence in the United States. That translates to thousands of American citizens (and others) across the country slaughtered by individuals who shouldn’t have been here in the first place.

You guys just don't get it. I am sad that so many of you are so completely stupid about this stuff. You'll turn your eyes away from rape and murder because then you'd see that your shitty liberal attitude is responsible for thousands upon thousands of deaths, rapes and other violent crimes every year. Liberalism is a disease and I hope that a cure is found soon.

Not everyone studied criminology. (It isn't taught here in Germany at schools but at university [post-graduate courses, mainly])

You can find statistics pro and con on crime and illegal aliens. And it usually depends on one's politics which is pro or con.

@McGentrix,
I think if we're going to talk about crimes committed by illegal aliens, we should admit from the start, yes they committed a crime entering the country but for purposes of further discussion let's concentrate on criminal behavior post arrival.
Quote:

You guys just don't get it. I am sad that so many of you are so completely stupid about this stuff.

I'm sorry you don't have more stupid people agreeing with you here. You sure it isn't just a difference of opinion though?
Quote:

It's very easy, after the fact, to look at a violent crime and think "if only..." So yeah, in any murder sure, if the murderer weren't in the country that particular murder wouldn't have happened. If we only banned drunk driving no one would be killed by an intoxicated driver. If we only had same-sex education girls would be safe in school. If we only outlawed guns...
Quote:
And it’s even more difficult to contend that Americans’ concern about crimes committed by illegal aliens is overblown.

Except that in two out of the five states, legal residents committed homicide at a higher rate than illegals. We'd need more states to be certain but from these five we know that illegal residency is not a cause of homicide. Data is only given for five states and no supplementary data is provided so we have no idea of the place of origin, time in country, level of education, employment status, race or ethnicity, and income.

You apparently think I'm "completely stupid about this stuff", but I see your side as simplistic, overeager to display force, and basically using a dragnet where tweezers would be more effective. As you may or may not know (or care), I'm personally not a big fan of immigration — legal or illegal — but I recognize the pressures driving people to leave their homes, whether from chronic poverty or fear of persecution, and seek a new start somewhere else.

Those people who have settled in this country and made themselves into constructive citizens deserve better than to be told to "Go back where you came from!" and shot on sight by Trump-inspired vigilantes because the blowhard insinuates that they must be rapists or drug dealers. Instead of scapegoating these people we ought to admit that we should have reformed our immigration laws a decade ago and legislate to allow an orderly path to gaining work permits and eventually (if desired) citizenship. And as far as the illegals in our communities, I prefer vetting to profiling. The Trump cure is worse than the disease.

Quote:
Liberalism is a disease and I hope that a cure is found soon.

Okay, McG, I hope a cure is found soon as well. It would be so much better, so much more convenient, so much more efficient if everyone thought exactly the same. I just hope the cure is affordable under the new, wonderful TrumpCare system we'll be enjoying soon.
