There was no such consensus. Only the Dems were certain of winning.
No, that's not correct. Unless you presume all polling enterprises to be Democratic entities. As noted earlier, Trump himself admitted he thought he would lose. Countless Republicans presumed this loss and wrote about it at NRO and Weekly Standard, for example.

So, no more on this with you.

@blatham,
Excuse me, but I don't remember who McCarthy is... (I'm just catching up with the fast paced thread.

Should California somehow fall apart, maybe I could afford to live there again. I miss it, tough rains and all.

@Olivier5,
Butting in here, I posted here that I told my ex that I was worried about the outcome. I'm one who was long for Sanders, but changed my mind about his ability to govern re his age and dealing with Washington, and held back my qualms to vote at the end for Clinton. My ex, a guy very interested in various politics, especially US, reassured me knowingly that Clinton would win. I turned out to be right, and I'm mad at myself re where I put my one vote.

Way earlier, now a couple of years or so ago, I started a thread with a title something like "is there anyone else besides Clinton". I was involved in California & a bit of national politics for decades, but I'm out of ommmph now.

The Martians have landed. We* didn't notice until now.

@blatham,
Re Nixon turning out to be less horrible, he did some good stuff, I'll admit.
You are talking to a person who was on the same roof as Gordon Liddy. What year I don't remember, my ex wrote a screen play, Street Asylum. Yes, I helped get rid of typos, asked questions, etc. Gordon Liddy (!) was one of the actors.
Hey, the ex was not the producer or director, and needed a job. I think it was the director's idea to start with.

Only time I was on the set, it was on a rooftop. I declined to meet Gordon.

@blatham,
I think I need to re subscribe (previously did for nearly ever). Money scant, but if I can buy occasional pork chops and wine, I can wiggle a subscription.

@hightor,
I won't disagree with what you are saying, but I've looked at the NYer since I was about ten, was confused with cartoons, and later subscribed for decades.
I figure resubscribing will boost my morale.

@ossobucotemp,
Now there's an amazingly odd encounter. Liddy was, of course, part of Nixon's Plumbers Unit that was established to find leakers. Just the sort of fellow Trump might be expected to hire.

@blatham,
Trump used FOX news for his info. Proves his ignorance yet again. He has some of the best intelligence if he bothers to make it available.
We all know how intelligent Trump is; he tells us all the time how smart he is.

What the hell is the Fake News criminal enterprise media doing passing on crap from unnamed sources? Pathetic!

@blatham,
That's okay; they're proving to be so incompetent, historians will have a field day with all the missteps of this administration. After just one month in office, Trump is running 21 points below the average of all past presidents.
