If it helps make your sad, disgruntled, angst-ridden life a tiny bit more bearable to consider me a mealy-mouthed, lying, hypocrite...go for it, Snood.

Anything that helps you get through another of those terrible days you are living should be okay with me...and with anyone else.

Were they separated from their parents, as the Trump administration has done? I thought the facilities were used to hold unaccompanied minors for 72 hrs prior to their being moved into foster homes.

I have no idea. I don't pay any attention to the immigration thing.

I do think the Democrats are fools for not trading "funding for a real wall" for "real immigration reform". The Democrats have no real reason for opposing the wall, and Mr. Trump would have been willing to make a deal with them in order to get his wall.

But that's folly that I'm watching from a distance without paying attention.

@snood,
Sarah Cooper, you mean? Her Trump pieces on twitter were hilarious.

If it is her you're referring to, I believe she got a netflix deal and her own network show which means she won't be as prominent on social media as she was during lockdown.

@snood,
It's a cool mistake to make though.

I've never heard of this other person that you were looking for. I only read twitter occasionally, and usually only if I follow a link that someone has posted somewhere on the internet.

Twitter is a good way to quickly find authoritative sources for breaking news. Lots of reporters send out tweets. But other than that, meh.

@Walter Hinteler,

But perhaps David Hume really was totally wrong when he wrote about "history will judge" as the general point of historical moral judgement.

But, Walter, with the "narrative" so tightly controlled today, and dissent punishable by death (they're working on it), history really does become his story.

Generally written by the victors in any conflict.

Hell, they even managed to make that drunkard sot Churchill look like he knew what he was doing.

We're not finished uncovering the dirt on the previous admin's crimes, but Obama pardoned the Bush admin for theirs.

That was Trump's first real "error" in telling them he'd bring them to justice.

I think your other thread is more suitable for this discussion, so I've responded there.

Tucker Carlson Slices Up the RBG ‘Dying Wish’ Idiocy as Only He Can

Quote:
Tucker asks his viewers to consider for a moment the nonsensical argument being put forward. That in order to protect and uphold the Constitution, we must substitute the Constitution’s process in order to insert an 87 year old partisan’s dying wish, of which there’s not even any actual record of. Regardless of your personal feelings about Ruth Bader Ginsburg, that is about as silly of an assertion as could possibly be made. That AOC is helping lead the charge on it is proof enough of that and certainly points to its lack of merit.

But it’s the second part of the clip that is vintage Tucker. While almost all Republican commentators have ceded the idea that Ginsburg made such a wish, Tucker questions the very veracity of the original claim. Was the late Justice really giving dying wishes about the temporary politics of Donald Trump on her death bed? Or was she focused on her family as you’d expect? We can’t know for sure, and certainly there’s reason to believe she would indeed throw such a grenade into the process, but there’s always room for suspicion when Democrats so quickly and thoroughly adopt a talking point. I’d guess Tucker’s use of the word “pathetic” there will earn him some scorn today, but that’s why he’s popular. He doesn’t hold back when he feels something needs to be said.

In the end, the fact that the Democrats are even pushing the dying wish angle shows they’ve got nothing. Now, I’m sure they’ll come up with something once a nominee is named, however weak and ineffective it may be. But for now, their arguments against replacing Ginsburg are falling completely flat, and Republicans are moving forward just as they should. Saturday is the big day though. If Amy Coney Barrett is named, and she should be, the response is going to be apoplectic.

Remember Democrats and the media knew there was no evidence of Russia collusion on Trump's part and lied for three years. Another lie means nothing to them, but it should to you.

@coldjoint,
Quote:
The thing is, though, this isn’t some anonymously sourced claim. While NPR initially reported it as such, Ginsburg’s granddaughter Clara Spera, whom NPR said took down Ginsburg’s wishes, has confirmed it on the record. NPR reporter Nina Totenberg also said Monday that she confirmed the dying wish with Ginsburg’s doctor.

To argue that Ginsburg actually didn’t say this, then, is to suggest that her grieving granddaughter’s first major action upon her grandmother’s death was to lie about her grandmother’s dying wish. That’s a pretty stunning charge.

NPR: Granddaughter Presages Battle Royale: When Will New Justice Be Confirmed?

Quote:
But after the appearance, social media has filled with false claims echoing Mr. Trump’s conspiracy theory, and taking it even further into the land of nonsense. On Twitter, users continued to spread their false claims that Justice Ginsburg dictated the note to her “8-year-old granddaughter.” (Ms. Spera is a lawyer who graduated from Harvard Law School in 2017.) They have cast doubts on the integrity of NPR’s reporting. (Nina Totenberg, the NPR reporter who published the detail about Justice Ginsburg’s last wish, is a longtime Supreme Court reporter who has been close to the Ginsburg family for decades.) And they have sought to portray Democrats spreading false rumors about Justice Ginsburg’s death as part of a political power grab.

In an appearance on MSNBC on Monday, Ms. Totenberg confirmed her account of Justice Ginsburg’s statement, and said that others in the room at the time witnessed her making it, including her doctor. “I checked,” Ms. Totenberg added, “because I’m a reporter.”

@Walter Hinteler,
If the NYT and the WP say it is true there is an excellent chance it is not. They both lied constantly about Russia and have fabricated stories with anonymous sources since Trump took office. Not believing them is only a natural reaction.

So their linked sources are false? The various persons quoted - in the WP and NYT, the quoted sources - are ghosts?
