Do you really believe that it is all that one-sided? /
I didn't suggest that I was addressing the only cause here, rather an element of causation currently evident among American Blacks, that does indeed differentiate them from other minority groups and immigrants which have successfully gone through similar assimilation processes, albeit with usually fewer sustained obstacles.

What about the dominant white culture in which, commonly, people could be overtly racist with no social repercussions until the post-war era, an attitude which still persists among many white people today? That illustrates a culture which doesn't value or encourage the very tenets which underlie its own national mythology! The dominant culture values "success", which is usually measured by wealth. People who have faced discrimination for their entire lives are much less likely to achieve the trappings of success.
This so-called "White Culture" is itself a cosmopolitan combination of those of our original European settlers, Blacks, and every major immigrant group that has settled here, ranging from Germans, Irish, Italians, Poles, Ashkenazi Jews, to Latinos, Chinese, Vietnamese and others. Many members of these immigrant groups also faced serious discrimination for their entire lives, though none as intense as was applied to Blacks through the 1940s. Most, in a three generation or so process, rose to sometimes grudging acceptance and significant economic success despite this discrimination, finally becoming elements of this so-called "White Culture". Frankly I don't know of any better example of sustained successful large-scale assimilation anywhere in the world. (If you can cite an example of better real long term success, I would like to see it.)

Slavery and the Jim Crow Culture largely stopped the clock on this process for American Blacks for a long time. Despite this they emerged from it with notable achievements in building educational institutions, strong family values and significant, lasting contributions to this cosmopolitan American culture.

My concern, and the focus of my post above. involve the relatively low rate of progress - indeed a slowdown in it - during the last few decades in the social and economic progress of Black Americans. That this has occurred in the face of expansive government managed programs specifically designed to advance their rate of progress should be a cause for concern and reexamination of current policies. That, I believe, was Jason Reilly's central concern in his book "please Stop Helping Us", and this view has also been eloquently addressed by Thomas Sowell.

A similar set of circumstances is evident in Australian "culture", wherein indigenous leaders are calling on their own people to give up the "cargo cult" mentality, if they do, indeed, wish to move on and improve their own lives.

There are many different kinds of assholes. As a certified Asshologist, I can speak with some authority. But our research has shown that all varieties of assholes - that is, the REAL assholes - know very well that they are assholes and they are proud of it.

Your right, when Hillary was running they offered souvenir body parts to big donors. I'm pretty sure Rush Limbaugh confirmed that rumor.

@blatham,
By the way Bernie, would you mind reminding George that 'the blacks' as he so eloquently put it (almost a Sowell-like eloquence if George had also had a fine education like Sowell) did not immigrate to this country. They were dragged here in chains and sold to people much like cattle. I think he mentioned he is a West Coast boy, so he may be unaware of the virulent racism on the East Coast that exists today. Oh Hell, I can't limit it just to the East Coast, it's all over the country.

Here's another request please, do you think anyone should remind Builder what 'indigenous people' means. Australia has treated the 'Native Australians' with the same contempt and disregard as the United States continues do with the 'Native Americans'. Both Countries have stolen practically everything from the native people and then crow how primitive they are compared to the actual land invading immigrants.

Nevermind, it's probably not a good idea, tut tut.

Epstein might be dead, but there's tomes of evidence to plough through, apparently.

Let's see if there's really a change in the DOJ on this case.

I was merely imitating the usage of Black politicians and entrepreneurs, as in the "Black Caucus" in Congress and the "Black Entertainment Network": nothing more. Do you have a better option?

There is indeed widespread racism, as well as other forms of intolerance throughout the country. There is also an equal amount of hypocrisy involved in all of it. Interestingly the very prosperous and liberal communities here in the Bay Area, including Silicon Valley and Marin County in the North, are particularly segregated, though their inhabitants are very quick to accuse others of racism. There is also a growing phenomenon of terming mere disagreement as implicitly and necessarily racist, in the complete absence of any evidence of wrongdoing. Both are harmful.

Slavery in this country ended in 1863 with the Emancipation Proclamation and finally with the passage of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution a couple of years later. No former slaves or slave owners inhabit the country today. In very adverse circumstances American Blacks made notable economic advances, while retaining and developing a strong social and family culture. Now, in less adverse circumstances, and with the complexity of greater government involvement, that progress has slowed down, and many indicators point to a breakdown in the hard won cultural values of a few decades ago.

The legal and cultural barriers to the economic and social advancement of Blacks have largely been removed. The challenges before us today principally involve the exploitation of this new freedom on the part of Blacks to rise, based on their own achievements, in a still competitive economy and society, just as it has been for all the other immigrant groups (however they arrived) who have also contributed to the life and culture of our nation.

Endgame for the Fed?
Ron Paul • August 12, 2019 •

The Federal Reserve, responding to concerns about the economy and the stock market, and perhaps to criticisms by President Trump, recently changed course on interest rates by cutting its “benchmark” rate from 2.25 percent to two percent. President Trump responded to the cut in already historically-low rates by attacking the Fed for not committing to future rate cuts.

The Fed’s action is an example of a popular definition of insanity: doing the same action over and over again and expecting different results. After the 2008 market meltdown, the Fed launched an unprecedented policy of near-zero interest rates and “quantitative easing.” Both failed to produce real economic growth. The latest rate cut is unlikely to increase growth or avert a major economic crisis.
It is not a coincidence that the Fed’s rate cut came along with Congress passing a two-year budget deal that increases our already 22 trillion dollars national debt and suspends the debt ceiling. The increase in government debt increases the pressure on the Fed to keep interest rates artificially low so the federal government’s interest payments do not increase to unsustainable levels.

President Trump’s tax and regulatory policies have had some positive effects on economic growth and job creation. However, these gains are going to be short-lived because they cannot offset the damage caused by the explosion in deficit spending and the Federal Reserve’s resulting monetization of the debt. President Trump has also endangered the global economy by imposing tariffs on imports from the US’s largest trading partners including China. This has resulted in a trade war that is hurting export-driven industries such as agriculture.

President Trump recently imposed more tariffs on Chinese imports, and China responded to the tariffs by devaluing its currency. The devaluation lowers the price consumers pay for Chinese goods, partly offsetting the effect of the tariffs. The US government responded by labeling China a currency manipulator, a charge dripping with hypocrisy since, thanks to the dollar’s world reserve currency status, the US is history’s greatest currency manipulator. Another irony is that China’s action mirrors President Trump’s continuous calls for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates.

While no one can predict when or how the next economic crisis will occur, we do know the crisis is coming unless, as seems unlikely, the Fed stops distorting the economy by manipulating interest rates (which are the price of money), Congress cuts spending and debt, and President Trump declares a ceasefire in the trade war.

The Federal Reserve’s rate cut failed to stop a drastic fall in the stock market. This is actually good news as it shows that even Wall Street is losing faith in the Federal Reserve’s ability to manage the unmanageable — a monetary system based solely on fiat currency. The erosion of trust in and respect for the Fed is also shown by the interest in cryptocurrency and the momentum behind two initiatives spearheaded by my Campaign for Liberty — passing the Audit the Fed bill and passing state laws re-legalizing gold and silver as legal tender. There is no doubt we are witnessing the last days of not just the Federal Reserve but the entire welfare-warfare system. Those who know the truth must do all they can to ensure that the crisis results in a return to a constitutional republic, true free markets, sound money, and a foreign policy of peace and free trade.

Conservative media figures dismissed an analysis from The New York Times showing hundreds of instances in which they used the same sort of anti-immigration rhetoric as the manifesto of the gunman who shot and killed 22 people in El Paso, TX, in early August.
Well of course they did. But prior to the NY Times piece, Media Matters has been documenting right wing media's rhetoric and language usage on this issue for a long time. It is not an open case. The role of modern right wing media, particularly Fox, talk radio, and major online operations is to gaslight their audiences.

Voices From The Right
Quote:
Trump’s spread of conspiracy theories undermines a belief in truth itself

...the most prominent and visible American — Trump — regularly employs and legitimizes conspiracy thinking. Much of the social scientific literature related to conspiracy theories paints their advocates as social outsiders, excluded from political power. But our main problem is not Alex Jones or 8chan; it is a president who is also a self-interested fabulist. Trump employed conspiracy theories to question Barack Obama’s legitimacy as president, and then accused Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower. Trump developed conspiracy theories about voter fraud in case he needed to contest an unfavorable outcome in the 2016 election. He cultivated conspiracy theories about the “deep state” in an attempt to discredit Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation. He asserted that windmills cause cancer and that Sen. Ted Cruz’s father was part of a conspiracy to kill John F. Kennedy — because, well, he prefers epistemological chaos.
Michael Gerson
When someone lies, they are attempting to convince you that something not real is real. They are attempting to cause, in you and others, some degree of epistemological confusion and chaos. This is what "gaslighting" means. For an American president to operate in this manner so commonly and about matters of great significance - and for his party to join in this same behavior day after day - is going to have very serious consequences for American democracy.

We Don't Have a Problem with White Supremacy. We Have a Problem with Leftist Supremacy

The left is obsessed with white supremacists the way that children are obsessed with Santa Claus, and for more or less the same reasons.

You see, if they manage to convince people that the alternative to their own crazy, race-obsessed, power-centralizing, socialist policies is white supremacy, then they get everything they ever wanted, plus a pony.

In an America as mixed as we are, the idea that white supremacists are the only ones who will do well is scary to most people. Beyond that, it is the most antithetical thing to American beliefs you can imagine. The nation that banned nobility of birth, and which fought a war to free slaves would never codify a regime where your genetics at birth determines what kind of happiness you can even think of pursuing. In America, equality under the law has always been the goal, even when honored in the breach.

Fortunately, we don't have any need to worry about real white supremacy. Just like you don't have to worry that Santa Claus is watching you, or has put a spy bug in your bedroom.

This is the problem the left has. And their response to it is to launch a brainwashing/gaslighting campaign to find white supremacy where there is none.

Also, unfortunately, as with all these things the left engages in, it causes more harm than... well, than even I can imagine, and I write some pretty dystopian stuff.

So, just like their attempt to define "patriarchy" has led them to make it impossible for business women to have closed-door meetings with male bosses or mentors, their definition of white supremacy is making it impossible for any minorities or, for that matter, under-privileged white people to improve themselves or create a better future for their descendants.

For instance, according to the New York Post, this is what passes for fighting white supremacy in NYC schools: Richard Carranza held ‘white-supremacy culture’ training for school admins.

This presentation included the following slide:

We'll pass over the point that defensiveness is supposed to be a matter of white supremacy, okay? Apparently, when you're being accused of horrible stuff, you're not supposed to be defensive. Yeah. That's interesting.

Instead, let's consider that individualism is now supposed to be white supremacy, and if you like working on your own, or dislike group work (remember group work from school? Almost anyone competent hated it) you're supposedly a white supremacist.

Let's consider instead stuff like perfectionism -- you know, trying to make things as perfect as possible and calling out people on their f*ck ups. Or a sense of urgency -- or as we call it around here, having your work done on time. Or what they call "worship of the written word," which apparently is the ability to express yourself in writing. Or objectivity, which they define as BELIEVING THERE'S AN ULTIMATE TRUTH.

Supposedly all of these things -- things that are absolutely required for any kind of workplace to get any kind of, you know, work done -- are toxic whiteness and signs of white supremacy.

So, the left, in teaching people to avoid white supremacy, assumes that minorities cannot express themselves in writing, can't get things done on time, and won't try to make the work as good as possible.

In other words, the left are in fact the white supremacists who believe any virtue that contributes to civilization must be white. The fact that they then want to suppress it -- in everyone but themselves -- is probably part of their plan to concentrate power.

Also, it's the reason why every institution taken over by leftists falls apart and dies.

And they have not the slightest bit of care for the people -- minorities and non-minorities -- this nonsense hurts. Because in their minds, the more other people are hampered, the more power they get in their grubby little hands.

We don't have a problem with white supremacy. We have a problem with Leftist Supremacy.

Leftists are indeed the major problem with society today.

Look what the left is doing to Venezuela. That is what they want to do to America if people let them.
