Our President Has Always Degraded Women — And We’ve Always Let Him
BY JILL FILIPOVIC
DECEMBER 5, 2017

Remember the good old days when we thought raunchy, predatory comments about women’s genitals could sink a politician?

Back in October of 2016, the Washington Post published that tape of Donald Trump bragging to Access Hollywood anchorman Billy Bush that “I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it, you can do anything… grab them by the pussy.” It wasn’t just Trump’s use of the p-word that was astonishing; it was the fact that he seemed to be saying he sexually assaults women just because he can. But the p-word and the objectifying, misogynist way it was used, coming from the mouth of a man who hoped to be president, was shocking, too. It was a national scandal, but apparently not scandalous enough. Trump won anyway, and now claims the voice on the tape isn’t him. Billy Bush says the president is lying again.

Now, there’s another story about our lewd, loutish president and his propensity for that same p-word. Trump was profiled for the August 2000 issue of Maximum Golf magazine, and, according to the author of the piece, when Trump saw a young woman enter his Mar-a-Lago club, he told the writer, “there is nothing in the world like first-rate pussy.”

There is nothing in the world like a man who doesn’t see women as people, but as walking sex-holes.

Michael Corcoran, who wrote the original Maximum Golf piece, told the Daily Beast that he wanted to include the quote, but that the magazine’s top editor deemed it too risqué, and changed “pussy” to “talent” (if true, that’s a significant journalistic lapse). A second editor at the magazine has confirmed Corcoran’s account. In the piece, Trump also encouraged his friends to evaluate his then-girlfriend Melania Knauss’s looks (“Is that as good as it gets?” he said). And the magazine itself pitched in with the sexism and objectification, featuring a photo of Melania in a bathtub full of golf balls.

That Trump used a naughty word 17 years ago isn’t headline news. But his history and the way he has talked about and treated women offer important context for our current political universe. His misogyny was encouraged, enabled and even glorified by his business associates, the entertainment media and the press more generally. All of that helped to set the stage for a crass misogynist to ascend to the highest position in the country. It’s women who have long paid the price for Trump’s bad behavior — and women across the country and around the world who are paying now.

Trump has long bragged that he likes “beautiful women,” and has married three of them. He has a disturbing habit of sexualizing his own daughter’s appearance and body. His comments aren’t about sexual desire, but a more generalized dehumanization of women. He literally sees us as useful primarily (or entirely) for our sexual appeal; our ability to be “first rate” depends on what’s between our legs, and how readily our physical appearances impress his golf friends. For Mr. Trump, this sexism moves in two directions: Women who are young, slim, white and conventionally attractive are sex objects, while women who don’t fit his narrow ideal of femininity are dismissed as pigs and dogs. Either way, there’s one status no woman seems to achieve: Human being.

@neptuneblue,
Trump has always been sure that women are every bit as good as men are.

Which is a huge ******* problem for the MORONIC LEFT!

If you haven't actually seen the proof that Clinton's campaign worked with the media to make Trump the 'Pied Piper' candidate in order to give a weak HRC someone who was so preposterous that she'd have a better chance of winning - it is only because you have studiously avoided it. Anyone who wants to see it, can.

From memory (forgive me if it fails me, I'm busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger at present) it was when HRC made it clear to Trump what his role was in her plans, (patsy to gee her up) that he took the situation seriously, and vowed to kick her criminal ass to the curb (and did just that).

@Builder,
The real criminal ass in the elections (in which, remember, Hillary won the vote) follows directly behindthe now-POTUS who is always the one who should have gotten the kick to the curb, which is exactly why the 15 or so investigations of him are proceeding.

The Epstein case will be interesting to follow.

Bill was a regular visitor, and their "foundation" was most certainly involved in child-sex trafficking of orphans from Haiti.

I'll tell you what, this guy Trump runs a whole lot cleaner than I ever imagined that he did. After all of these years of super high powered attempts to nullify the election to include the top law enforcement officials nobody has been successful at finding quality dirt to use against him, which is astounding,

Props to my dad who died in 1986 who upon meeting Trump just as Trump Tower was opening pronounced him a Good Guy.

Trump is hated by pretty much the entire Failed Intelligentsia, if there was something to find that could be used to haul him out of office they would have found it by now, even taking into account how poor the work turned in by the elites has long been.

Just look at what Mueller turned in for instance, he allegedly the best of the best that the Failed Intelligentsia has to offer, previously a law enforcement officer with a stellar reputation is now turned political hack due to his hatred of Trump and desire to help his class remove him. Those of us who put him in office even after we were continually warned by the So-Called Journalists and Hollywood and the political class that he is not allowed.....they say so. The deciders and self appointed Brain Molders are desperate for their pound of flesh to discourage the practice of defying them, but they have completely failed to get the job done.

Mueller was neck deep in the whole "Russia scandal" before being appointed Special Counsel.

He would have to know a whole lot more than he's letting on, and he also knows that he's sitting on a pandora's box, that he really has no compunction to even think about opening, hence his "case closed" scenario.

On The Young Turks TV network, right now a troupe if actors is reading the Mueller Report aloud as if it’s a dramatic reading. It’s fascinating. I bought the report and tried to read it through, but this is fabulous.

Hey, just putting up the well-known arguments which effectively counter these well-known, oft-repeated charges. What are the chances of any of these charges being investigated and acted upon? Close to zero, I'd say. You might try arguing with the listed points rather than just attempting to insult another poster.

That's old news anyway. I thought this was interesting:

Trump 'pulled out of Iran nuclear deal to spite Obama', suggests Kim Darroch in new leaked memo

US president was ‘set upon an act of diplomatic vandalism, seemingly for ideological and personality reasons’, latest cable says

Quote:
Donald Trump pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal to spite his predecessor Barack Obama, the UK’s former ambassador reportedly suggested in a new leaked diplomatic memo.

Sir Kim Darroch claimed the US president’s actions amounted to “diplomatic vandalism” and were fuelled by “personality” reasons, according to a document seen by The Mail on Sunday.

The ambassador’s comments are said to have been made in May 2018 after Boris Johnson, who was foreign secretary at the time, made a failed trip to the White House in a bid to change Mr Trump’s mind on leaving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

The latest revelation came as police identified a suspect behind the leak, according to The Sunday Times.

Just hours earlier, Mr Johnson and Tory leadership rival Jeremy Hunt criticised Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner Neil Basu for warning journalists they could face prosecution for publishing the memos.

Mr Basu said the leaked emails could be a “criminal matter” that was not in the public interest, and that a police investigation had been launched into a potential breach of the Official Secrets Act.

Mr Hunt said he would “defend to the hilt the right of the press to publish those leaks if they receive them and judge them to be in the public interest”.

And Mr Johnson said prosecution “would amount to an infringement on press freedom and have a chilling effect on public debate”.

In a memo to Downing Street on 8 May last year, sent after Mr Johnson returned to London, Sir Kim said the Trump administration was “set upon an act of diplomatic vandalism, seemingly for ideological and personality reasons – it was Obama’s deal”, The Mail on Sunday reported.

He is said to have suggested that there were splits among Mr Trump’s closest advisers – with Mike Pompeo, the secretary of state, distancing himself from the president’s actions – and that the White House lacked a strategy on what to do following its withdrawal from the Iran deal.

Neither Mr Pompeo nor Mike Pence, the vice president, or John Bolton, the national security adviser, “could articulate why the President was determined to withdraw, beyond his campaign promises”, Sir Kim added.

Under the terms of the agreement – still supported by Britain, France and Germany – international sanctions on Iran were eased in return for Tehran accepting curbs on its nuclear programme.

In a second cable sent later that day, the former ambassador reportedly wrote that “following a typically hyperbolic statement on the nature of the ‘murderous’ Iranian regime, Mr Trump signed a presidential memorandum to start the process of reinstating US nuclear sanctions”.

Sir Kim resigned from his role on Wednesday after leaked documents published a week ago by The Mail on Sunday revealed he had described Mr Trump’s administration as “dysfunctional” and “inept”.

The president lashed out at the former ambassador in a string of tweets, saying Washington would “no longer deal” with him, and that he was “not liked or well thought of” within the country.

Sir Kim quit his post, saying his job had become “impossible” after Mr Trump’s tirade against him.

It is believed he made the decision to resign while watching Tuesday’s televised Tory leadership debate, during which Mr Johnson refused to rule out replacing him.
