@blatham,

To receive a diagnosis of ASPD, someone must be older than 18. Their behaviors must show a pattern of at least three of the following seven traits:

1 Doesn't respect social norms or laws. They consistently break laws or overstep social boundaries.
4 Shows aggressive or aggravated behavior. They consistently get into fights or physically harm others.
5 Doesn't consider their own safety or the safety of others.
7 Doesn't feel guilt or remorse for having harmed or mistreated others.

So then.... Leftists are sociopaths.

Nope. No traitors here. Only the innocent victims of leftist witch hunts.

Of course they are traitors. You'll understand when you grow up.

The time has come, finally, for Marvel to introduce a geriatric superhero. He could bond any evil-doer up on a wall with flem. Bite through any known substance with his titanium dentures. Extinquish lasers and nuclear blasts with diarrhea. Not sure of the new hero's name. Suggestions welcome.

@blatham,
I guess it gives us some small sense of control or some meager comfort when we try to put a name to the kind of character he possesses and the destructive behaviors that he manifests. We keep doing that - it’s become sort of a quasi cottage industry - the “this is what’s wrong with Donald Trump” business.

I do it myself, all the time. I tend to naturally gravitate toward figuring out the “why” behind the choices people make.

But the fact remains that he got into the office of the presidency, and he continues with impunity to perpetrate ugly messes in every corner that government can touch. And every moment that passes is another moment with him suffering no real consequences for the messes he makes.

I would joyfully sacrifice any sure knowledge about the roots of Trump’s behavior to get just one subpoena to release information or appear before Congress enforced by one federal marshall.

Is anybody else just perpetually gobsmacked at how ******* absolutely dickless are the so-called checks-and-balances of the so-called coequal branches?

@snood,
Checks and balances are working as intended. Since the left has no case to make against Mr. Trump, it is proper that he not face any penalties.

I think that's a bigger story. If, for example, the GOP had not become the sort of malign player is has become, congress and the courts would be behaving much differently.

But aside from that, much is quite readily explained if we think of Trump as a sociopathic personality. Such people can rise to positions of great power, social prominence and wealth. From such a desirable (for them) position, the traits that drive them can be most fully effected. Trump is not different from a Mafia boss. He's not different from a Stalin though his situation or context is different and prevents him from even worse behaviors.

The difficulty media and Americans generally are having here is, I'm certain, a deep reluctance to confront how their national myths really do not allow for the notion that such a personality type could become President.

Silence About White Supremacy in US Surveillance Rhetoric Matters
Characterization of Security Threats May Feed Bias Against Minorities

Sarah St.Vincent
Researcher/Advocate, US Program
@SarahStV_HRW

Next year, the US Congress will grapple with whether to extend the USA Freedom Act, which currently imposes limits on the government’s powers to sweep up US telephone call records under Section 215 of USA Patriot Act. If history is any indication, the intelligence and law enforcement agencies will push hard for continued or even expanded monitoring powers – and they’ll do so by emphasizing threats they say are posed by Muslims.

What they probably won’t mention? Anything about whether they believe white supremacists present an international threat that’s relevant to surveillance or other intelligence powers.

Many US surveillance powers are already excessive and violate rights. The agencies therefore should not simply expand any existing spying authorities that are abusive to cover white supremacist groups.

However, for years, the agencies’ relative silence about white supremacist movements when promoting their surveillance desires has been striking. White power adherents in the US have been staging loud, public, and at times fatal shows of force. The radical right in Europe has become increasingly vociferous, too – and these movements may be increasingly connected across borders. Yet, available transcripts from hearings about surveillance by the congressional intelligence and judiciary committees during the past five years reveal little explicit discussion of white supremacy by executive branch officials. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has addressed white supremacist violence recently in other contexts – but not, it appears, in planned appeals to lawmakers for spying powers.

This silence about white power groups’ violence during the government’s public testimony about intelligence, national security, and surveillance matters. When the agencies argue to maintain or expand their snooping authorities by focusing heavily on Muslims without addressing global white supremacist violence, they not only reinforce stereotypes about Muslims, but also leave Congress and the public in the dark about whether they see white supremacist violence as an intelligence issue.

US Air Force training materials Human Rights Watch obtained in 2017 illustrate this point. In explaining a Defense Department “counterintelligence” policy change allowing the warrantless monitoring of US “homegrown violent extremists,” the presentation cites two shootings committed by Muslims as examples—and no deadly acts by proponents of white power, despite numerous killings in the US by white supremacists in recent years.

Everyone’s security matters, and officials should be more forthright regarding what they know about white supremacist violence and how it fits into the surveillance picture—and avoid feeding into bias against US minority groups.

@Olivier5,
White supremacists are not quite the threat to the nation's existence that al-Qa'ida was.

But I'm fine with the government conducting reasonable (as in 4th Amendment reasonable) surveillance of domestic groups to try to prevent any hate crimes before they happen.

Maybe we can get those crippling restrictions on the phone metadata program lifted when the law comes up for review.

It looks like Stephen Lang in Avatar, somehow, I don't give Trump that good villain credit. His villain character would show his ineptness as well as his unjustifiable ego.

@revelette1,
Quote:
Stan Lee, the man behind the Marvel Comics universe of characters, including Iron Man, Spider-Man, Thor, the X-Men, Black Panther and more, died on Monday but not before revealing that his most hideous villain to date was based on Donald Trump.

“MODAAK, which is an acronym for ‘Mental Organism Designed As America’s King,’ has zero redeeming qualities,” said the 95-year-old Lee, before he went to the superhero heaven in the sky. “I wanted MODAAK to be our most despicable villain yet, and instructed Marvel artist Jason Latour to give him not only a golden hue, but the evil, racist, small handed, small-minded qualities that we all despise about Donald Trump.”

Stan Lee, who was as famous for his liberal politics as he was for co-creating the beloved Marvel Comic’s heroes and anti-heroes, considered Mr. Trump a bigot and a plague on the world, which he depicted through the character MODAAK.

“We made sure MODAAK was defeated by someone who Donald Trump would have hated — a black female Captain America,” added Lee. “How fitting is that? Trump’s alter ego slammed into oblivion by a black woman.”

It is not known what the final fate of MODAAK will be now that Stan Lee has left the Marvel universe, but most are betting that the real Donald Trump will be defeated not only by African American women, but also Latinos, abortion rights advocates, the LGBTQ community, veterans, union workers, social democrats, anyone with an education, liberal groups, gun-control advocates, environmentalists, moderate Republicans, and people with a moral compass.

Stan Lee, rest easy and rest assured. And thanks.

OK, I really don't go in for comics book type movies anymore so I missed the significance. I just looked at the picture and it reminded me of that guy in Avatar like I said. Maybe you never seen the movie. In any event, sorry for misunderstanding or insulting or whatever.

I'm actually not much inclined to involve myself in funerary stuff but if you need a bouquet and don't have a lot of cash, that's where you can find them. Best to visit on a Saturday or Sunday evening while they're still fresh. "Oh Bernie, they're beautiful! You can have sex with me now"

Two top Dems today hit a similar point on impeachment: If the president keeps blocking congressional requests, Dems could impeach.

Schiff to Post: "If there's anything that's going to get me there, it's" that. Biden to GMA: Dems may “have no alternative"
