Devin Nunes' lawsuit will move Twitter into the 'age of accountability:' Ken Starr

Former independent counsel Kenneth Starr praised Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and his lawsuit against Twitter Monday saying that the legal action will move the social media giant into the “age of accountability.”

“I think this is going to be one of those action-forcing events, it’s calling Twitter, and more broadly these social platforms, into the age of accountability,” Starr said on “America’s Newsroom.” “They’ve enjoyed the age of running free, running loose, doing what they want to do but especially since they hold a very important power -- censorship.”

Twitter has been accused by conservatives of censoring their views.

President Trump Tuesday slammed Twitter and other media companies, accusing them of backing Democrats. Trump made the accusation on his Twitter account.

Starr added: “We don’t know much at least about how this process of filtering goes through. So, I think that the lawsuit is going to help illuminate that.”

Nunes filed a the lawsuit Monday seeking $250 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages against Twitter and a handful of its users on Monday, accusing the social media site of "shadow-banning conservatives" to secretly hide their posts, systematically censoring opposing viewpoints, and totally "ignoring" lawful complaints of repeated abusive behavior.

Starr believes Nunes is using litigation to get the answers he wants from Twitter and using the courts to do what Congress is unable to do.

“It’s again proof that litigation can be a powerful sword, a powerful engine for getting the truth,” Starr told co-host Sandra Smith. “I think this is a terrific method for getting real accountability the way, frankly, it’s going to be hard for Congress to do.”

Christchurch mosque shootings: ISIS leader Abu Hassan al-Muhajir calls for revenge

A high-ranking member of ISIS has called for revenge after the deaths of 50 Muslims in Christchurch.

The terror organisation's spokesman Abu Hassan al-Muhajir is believed to have issued an appeal in a 44-minute audio recording.

The New York Times reports that al-Muhajir broke six months of silence to call for retaliation.

"The scenes of the massacres in the two mosques should wake up those who were fooled, and should incite the supporters of the caliphate to avenge their religion," he said.

Fifty worshipers were killed when the alleged gunman, Brenton Tarrant, opened fire on two mosques in Christchurch on Friday afternoon.

Al-Muhajir likened the massacre to the ongoing battle at the terror organisation's only remaining piece of territory in Syria.

"Here is Baghuz in Syria, where Muslims are burned to death and are bombed by all known and unknown weapons of mass destruction," he said.

However, the New York Times reported that coalition officials believe those killed in Baghuz are mostly Islamic State fighters or their wives and children.

The Times reported that throughout his speech, "Mr al-Muhajir belittled the White House's claim of victory over the terrorist organisation, calling it a 'state of confusion and contradiction that make it impossible for any observer to know what is meant by the word 'victory'."

Military officials say ISIS remains a threat despite losing all but a small part of the territory it once controlled in Iraq and Syria.

The Times said al-Muhajir's name is an invention, and his true identity is unknown.

He "is a faceless but important figure inside the terrorist group. He is not known to have ever appeared in photographs or in the group's numerous videos, and almost nothing is known about his personal biography".

His last audio recording was in September 2018, and was less than four minutes long.

"As anti-ISIS forces pursue Mr al-Muhajir and other senior members of the militant group, it is assumed that they avoid detection by shunning electronics, especially cellphones, and limiting contact with couriers, whose movements can be tracked. That raises a number of questions: How did he know about the slaughter of Muslims in New Zealand? Is he hunkered down in a house in Iraq or Syria and relying on local TV coverage? Did one of his aides bring him the news?" reported the Times.

Tarrant appeared in court on Saturday charged with one count of murder and was remanded in custody without plea.

New Zealand Police have said the 28-year-old Australian will likely be facing further charges when he reappears in court on April 5.

Following the attack in Christchurch, New Zealand's national security threat level has been raised to high and senior government officials have met at the Beehive's high security bunker for a national security crisis meeting.

Though the country is collectively grieving following its worst ever terrorism attack, there has also been an outpouring of love and support for the victims and their families.

More than 250 police detectives and specialist staff are working on the investigation, which is being assisted by Australian detectives and the FBI.

I do acknowledge that white nationalist terrorism exists. Yes I do.

They are an EVIL group of people who should pushed back against.

I do, however, believe that white nationalist numbers are very small, and that they are used as boogeymen by the fake news media.

White racism is the most openly decried form of racism that exists in society in the current year. It is not socially acceptable to espouse neo-Nazi beliefs. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

We do see that hate crime hoaxes are on the rise. And the reason that is, is because white supremacy is so unacceptable by society at large, that the easiest way to gain victim points is to claim to be attacked by white racism.

If white power and neo-Nazism was truly on the rise, or was accepted by society, then when these people like Jussie Smollett come forward, the media would immediately discredit them. And yet we have seen the exact opposite, where
any and every possible excuse is taken by the media to perpetuate this myth of the white boogieman.

The media and the twitter mobs label everything "racist", and "white privilege".

When terms like 'racist', 'sexist', 'Islamophobia', 'homophobia', etc. get thrown around constantly, they lose all meaning.

On the other hand, radical Islam is a protected group. Just look at the leftist media and how they manipulate facts to protect them.

Just look at how the media protects radicals like Linda Sarsour, Louis Farrakhan, and Ilhan Omar.

Radical Islamists are the single biggest terrorist threat to the entire world. We have glaring evidence to prove that.

During this phase, which starts on Wednesday, Mr Hardeman's lawyers are expected to present evidence allegedly showing Bayer's efforts to influence scientists, regulators and the public about the safety of its products.

The German company, which acquired Roundup as part of its $66bn takeover of US rival Monsanto, said it was disappointed with the jury's initial decision.

"We are confident the evidence in phase two will show that Monsanto's conduct has been appropriate and the company should not be liable for Mr. Hardeman's cancer," the company said.

Bayer continues "to believe firmly that science confirms that glyphosate-based herbicides do not cause cancer".

The case was only the second of some 11,200 Roundup lawsuits to go to trial in the US.

Another California man was awarded $289m in August after a state court jury found Roundup caused his cancer, sending Bayer shares plunging at the time.

That award was later reduced to $78m and is on appeal.

The US congressman Devin Nunes sent the Twitterverse spiraling into hilarity late on Monday with his lawsuit listing the purported crimes of Twitter users “Devin Nunes’ Mom” and “Devin Nunes’ Cow”.

In the lawsuit against Twitter and a handful of users, the California Republican claims to be the victim of vicious internet trolls, as well as the victim of selective censorship by the social media company. He is alleging that by “shadow-banning” his account, Twitter allowed for the selective amplification of “defamers” such as “Devin Nunes’ Mom” and “Devin Nunes’ Cow”.

(Shadow-banning, a term used for when certain users are not visible in automatic search results, has repeatedly been debunked as an effort to silence conservatives. Twitter has changed the way it algorithmically ranks users, based on their behavior, but the company has maintained that it is content-neutral.)

But in filing the lawsuit, Nunes ultimately fell victim to the Streisand effect: when an attempt to censor something ends up bringing more attention to it.

In suing these Twitter users, Nunes listed some of their tweets, thus ensuring thousands, if not millions, more people saw what the lawsuit characterized as “defamation”. By the time Nunes filed the lawsuit, Twitter had already suspended Devin Nunes’ Mom. Devin Nunes’ Cow had more than 1,200 followers.

Devin Nunes’ Cow now has 107,000 followers. “Devin Nunes’ Alt-Mom”, a new user purporting to be the same account as Devin Nunes’ Mom, was created and now has more than 8,000 followers. Other accounts include Devin Nunes’ Goat, with 240 followers, Devin Nunes’ Lawyer, with 1,120 followers, Devin Nunes’ Grandma with 1,160 followers, and Devin Nunes’ Cock – a rooster with 590 followers.

It didn’t help Nunes’ case that his attorneys never found the true identities behind “Devin Nunes’ Mom” and “Devin Nunes’ Cow”, so pieces of the complaint read as if Nunes’ actual mother and his cow were the perpetrators, turning the lawsuit into a parody of itself.

“In her endless barrage of tweets, Devin Nunes’ Mom maliciously attacked every aspect of Nunes’ character, honesty, integrity, ethics and fitness to perform his duties as a United States Congressman,” the complaint states.

“Devin Nunes’ Mom stated that Nunes had turned out worse than Jacob Wohl; falsely accused Nunes of being a racist, having ‘white supremist friends’ and distributing ‘disturbing inflammatory racial propaganda’; falsely accused Nunes of putting up a ‘Fake News MAGA’ sign outside a Texas Holocaust museum; falsely stated that Nunes would probably join the ‘Proud Boys’, ‘if it weren’t for that unfortunate “no masturbating” rule’.”

Twitter has declined to comment on the lawsuit. On Tuesday, Donald Trump tweeted his support for Nunes.
