I think you are confused in general. I never said I did not want something I paid into. Living within your means used to be encouraged.

@coldjoint,
It still is...unless you’re a Republican congressman.

@coldjoint,
Maybe CJ you’d just be happy if you got all the pennies you put into SS back CJ, minus the interest the government has paid on your debt since your generation allowed the trust fund to become government bonds.

Say you put in $70k over your life. You can have that back (minus interest) but once that’s gone, you’re SOL. Oh and we’ll cut your Medicaid so once you have to go into a nursing home we’ll just bankrupt your family too

@maporsche,
Fun fact I learned nursing in a nursing home; probably 70% of them there are on Medicaid and it’s just a matter of time before you die or get put on Medicaid.

Oh and it’s a bunch of immigrants taking care of you; some people hate that.

I think of Republicans were serious about eliminating Social Security (actually detailing the cuts they “say” they “want”) they’d suddenly find their their voters weren’t serious about it.

It’s a good talking point, but that’s all it is. Bunch of hypocrites.

Just like Obamacare repeal.

Greed crosses party lines regularly.

I didn't say that "greed" was exclusive to one political party. But greedy billionaires...hmm...probably a lot of them don't even vote. But of the ones that do vote I'll bet they're more in line with the Kochs than the Tolls.

I’d really love for a Republican here to outline their preferred details on cutting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Then I’d like to know what they think about cutting Medicare and at the same time removing the caps on how much old people can be charged for healthcare.

Take your slogans maybe 1 or 2 steps beyond what can fit on a bumper sticker.

@maporsche,
Whose mantra might that be?

Certainly not mine.

So by saying that I am OK with have my entitlement benefits reduced because of the wealth that I have, through my own hard work, accrued, it suggests to you that I am greedy?

Your thinking is muddled.

@maporsche,
You've already seen part of it but declared it "greedy"

1) Means test recipients (You do know what this means don't you?)
2) Raise the age of eligibility to one more in line with current longevity
3) Allow those who wish to, to invest their "shares" in private equity

Now let's consider your plan:

Soak "The Rich" (which is to say anyone who makes more than you)

@Finn dAbuzz,
That's not going to come close to eliminating social security or even reducing it to a level that would allow for a balanced budget.

Bullshit Finn.

I would absolutely vote for a tax increase on even my middle class income. Hell, I'm going to have to after your party's fiscally irresponsible "leadership."
