@revelette1,
Right. I suspect he (and others) using the McCarthy analogy are well aware that their use is improper but that many in their base will be too stupid/uneducated to know that. "Its's a kangaroo court"; "It's like the Spanish Inquisition": "It's a Stalinist show trial"; etc. They just throw this crap out there to try and fill the media space with ideas they believe helps them politically. It's not as if this crowd is truthful.

@revelette1,
And on Friday, under cover of the Kavanaugh hubbub, the GOP pushed through another bill cutting taxes even further for the very wealthy.

@blatham,
FBI reaches out to second woman who has accused Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct
Quote:
{...]
The bureau has reached out to Deborah Ramirez, a Yale University classmate of Kavanaugh’s who alleges that he shoved his genitals in her face at a party where she had been drinking and become disoriented. It was not clear that agents had yet interviewed Ramirez. But the FBI is moving quickly to contact people as part of the new background investigation, which President Trump ordered on Friday under pressure from key members of his party.

The FBI also is following up on allegations by Christine Blasey Ford, a California psychologist, who testified to the Senate this week that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in the early 1980s when they were in high school in suburban Washington, D.C.

Ford recounted in detail how Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge allegedly attacked her in a bedroom during a small gathering at a house when the teen boys were both drunk. Ford said the alleged attack had caused her lasting trauma, and she was visibly anguished as she recalled the events Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Following Ford’s testimony, Kavanaugh vigorously denied the allegations before the committee and accused Democrats of launching a last-minute attempt to derail his nomination. He decried the confirmation process as a “circus.”

On Friday, Republicans on the committee voted to proceed to a full Senate vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination, but a series of back-room negotiations led to a surprise twist in what has already been a wrenching confirmation process for a Supreme Court nominee, among the most polarizing in recent memory.

@ehBeth,
One aspect of all this that continues to haunt me is the difference in behavior of the characters as they went through the process of the hearing. Or more accurately, the behavior of the males in contrast with that of the females. It was as clear a proof as one might ask for in demonstrating why we need many, many more females in positions of power.

@ehBeth,

So on the substance of the Court’s future, it seems to me that the Democrats have ensured this past week that if Kavanaugh is confirmed, they will have created an embittered foe in the Thomas mold.
I don't think this is a valid concern. What we now know of Kavanaugh's record is that he has been, all along, a zealous campaigner for GOP political dominance generally and as regards the court system. Andrew worrying about his anger making his judicial findings more extreme seems exceedingly silly to me. And let's not forget, Kavanaugh's displayed anger was an acting job. They strategized and then trained him in the murder boards to behave as he did.

And if they end up with Barrett, they will have have someone on the Court more certain to strike down Roe than Kavanaugh.
Well, there's no credible Dem indictment here because the problem is GOP power in the Senate and the power of this extremist legal/political ideology that now sits at the core of the party's power structures. In this situation, and with a Republican in the WH, the Kennedy retirement made such an outcome inevitable.

@blatham,
I hope Sullivan's wrong, but spidey senses are tingling (and I'd already posted about a possible swing to the right if Kavanaugh sinks).

@Walter Hinteler,
Yes. I get the notion that the FBI are very busy already. And as I noted earlier, quite out of sight at this point, hundreds of reporters will be digging furiously over the next week (and beyond, possibly). If Kavanaugh is as deceitful as we already suspect, that won't stay hidden. I'm more concerned with what the GOP folks will do with the FBI report and the degree of suppression of evidence where the subject or charge will fall outside of what they deem relevant.

@blatham,
Keep watching fox - or following their feed.

When their hosts turned (a bit) on Kavanaugh, so did #45 (and then some of his supporters - though they seem more resistant than #45 - he's less invested in conservatism than they are).

The Deeper Meaning of Kavanaughkampf

Quote:
Keep in mind that, for the Left, which rejects God, government itself becomes a quasi-theological object. Lefties ignore the law (e.g. BHO’s administration) all the time, but note the visceral pleasure they seem to feel when saying “Trump broke THE LAW.”

Couple this government-is-‘god’ view with the Postmodern concept of Truth as a social construct. We’ve just seen a feminist shrink from California (three strikes, and that lady’s waaaaay out) decide that, nearly two score years ago, a SCOTUS nominee got all PG-13 on her.

And we’re supposed to:

accept this accusation as conviction
throw a good man’s career under the bus, sans trial
not ask any “hahrd” questions, because then we’re as bad as the alleged assailant.

Well. Any answers on how this resembles American justice?
