@coldjoint,
Donald Trump and the populist wing of the Republican Party have succeeded in a hostile takeover of the party. The left over pigs in the GOP have either left or are on their way out
.
That is the most major difference between our own political scene of the political scene of 1969, that is, the thing about the pigs these days calling themselves Democrats. I get funny looks from people under 40 when I tell them that the pigs in the United States generally used to call themselves Republicans and that it wasn't that terribly long ago, just 50 or 60 years.

@blatham,
Blatham fornicates with goats.

That's information but how seriously are you going to consider it.

Everyone she has said was in the room denies they were there or that it happened

What she was wearing? Are you kidding me? She can remember what she was wearing but not when it happened?

Obviously she "remembers" what Kavanaugh did to her or we wouldn't be discussing this.

Maybe she's telling the truth, maybe her memory is faulty or maybe she is lying. All are possible and 36 years later the FBI will not be able to prove which it is.

If justice is to be served there is no way her accusation can stand without her making it before the man she is accusing. That is a fundamental principle of our legal system.

Sure. If the venue is a courtroom where fairly robust procedures are in place including witnesses, discovery, adequate time to prepare, an objective jury, etc.

One interesting corner of this Kavanaugh story is the element of Washington elites born to wealth, connections and privilege.
Quote:
Two high school classmates of Brett Kavanaugh who spearheaded a letter to the Senate attesting to his character also held to the saying that, "What happens at Georgetown Prep stays at Georgetown Prep," according to Kavanaugh's 2015 speech in which he discussed using that phrase.

In the speech, at Catholic University Law School, Kavanaugh said he shared that credo with three friends at Georgetown Prep. He said, "Three classmates of mine at Georgetown Prep were graduates of this law school in 1990 and are really, really good friends of mine: Mike Bidwill, Don Urgo, and Phil Merkle. And they were good friends of mine then and are still good friends of mine as recently as this weekend, when we were all on email together. But fortunately we had a good saying that we've held firm to to this day, as the dean was reminding me before the talk, which is, 'What happens at Georgetown Prep stays at Georgetown Prep.' That's been a good thing for all of us, I think."

Bidwill, Urgo, and Merkle all signed the letter, which was spearheaded by Bidwill, Urgo, and two others.

Their July 9 letter says, "at Georgetown Prep, young men are instilled with the belief that they should strive to be 'men for others.'"

Kavanaugh cited the same school motto in his speech, about two minutes before saying that he and the three friends held firm to the saying that "What happens at Georgetown Prep stays at Georgetown Prep."

As TYT reported, although the motto about being "men for others" appears in the version of the speech Kavanaugh submitted to the Senate Judiciary Committee, the transcript does not include his remarks about "What happens at Georgetown Prep."

The alumni letter was signed by dozens of men, including executives, bankers, lawyers, and others, including one trustee of Georgetown Prep, and New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman. It was addressed to the Senate party leaders, Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY); Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley (R-IA); and Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).

The letter calls Kavanaugh a "good man" and closes by saying that, "We, his classmates and fellow alumni, are confident that you will conclude what we already have known for approximately 35 years because of his character and intellect: Brett M. Kavanaugh is an excellent jurist who is singularly qualified to be an Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court."

Today, Urgo is managing partner and general counsel of Urgo Hotels and Resorts, where his father is president and CEO. Bidwill is president of the Arizona Cardinals football team, which is owned by his father.

Bidwill promoted the letter and attested to Kavanaugh's good character in other forums. In July, the Cardinals website published an article endorsing Kavanaugh.

@blatham,
There is no rational reason why she cannot go before the committee.

They will treat her with kid gloves.

This poor woman is so over her head it's sad.

She wrote the letter for good or bad and did not want to be identified, but that wouldn't work for the Dems so they leaked her identity.

@MontereyJack,
Not at all, but this is the sort of evidence the FBI might find in an investigation. If you think they would only focus on Kavanaugh then you must believe the organization is an arm of the Democrat Party.

Be careful of what you ask for.

@blatham,
This is the, frankly, the evil notion of social justice.

Kavanaugh is a privileged white male.

Privileged white males have committed offenses against minorities.

Therefore in the name of social justice, Kavanaugh must suffer as a representative of his kind irrespective of personal guilt.

Disgusting.

Here in 2018 The Republicans of the Judiciary Comm. are hiring a female outside counsel to represent them. This must be pretty serious for those old white men to give up camera showboat time.

Academics Call For End To Economic Growth… And To Plan For ‘Wealth Distribution’

This is a real brainstorm.
Quote:
More than 200 academics signed onto a public letter calling on governments to eschew economic growth in order to plan for a “post-growth economy” based on wealth redistribution.

“For the past seven decades, GDP growth has stood as the primary economic objective of European nations,” 238 academics wrote in public letter published by The Guardian on Sunday.

“But as our economies have grown, so has our negative impact on the environment,” they wrote. “We are now exceeding the safe operating space for humanity on this planet, and there is no sign that economic activity is being decoupled from resource use or pollution at anything like the scale required.”

“Today, solving social problems within European nations does not require more growth. It requires a fairer distribution of the income and wealth that we already have,” the academics wrote….

How many academics are with them? All those brains can only come up with this? It amounts to throwing money at multiclture and it will suddenly work.

My God they are unbelievably stupid.

The Supreme Court nominations process is not a trial. That's why the FBI does background checks on nominees. This is part of Kavanaugh's background that has just come to light, therefore it is incumbent upon the FBI to investigate this new background information.

The purpose of preventing the FBI from investigating is that the Republicans do not want this hearing to go any further than "He said, she said" so they can dismiss Ford's story. There are apparently notes from counselors right after it happened and other indications that Kavanaugh was at the party. Since Kavanaugh himself bases his defense on the assertion that he could not have done this because he wasn't even at the party, evidence that he was actually there collapses his defense.

The US has imposed sanctions on the Chinese military over its purchasing of Russian military jets and surface-to-air missiles.

It says such purchases contravene US sanctions on Moscow introduced over Russian actions in Ukraine and alleged interference in US politics.

China recently bought 10 Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets and S-400 missiles.

Beijing has not joined in the sanctions imposed on Moscow by the US and its Western allies since 2014.

Its forces took part in giant Russian war games held earlier this month.

Relations between the US and Russia deteriorated rapidly after Moscow annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.

Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 American presidential election and military involvement in Syria's ongoing civil war increased tensions.

China's Equipment Development Department (EDD) and its head, Li Shangfu, are sanctioned for completing "significant transactions" with Russia's state arms exporter, Rosoboronexport.

The EDD and Mr Li have been added to a Blocked Persons List, meaning any assets they hold in the US are frozen and Americans are "generally prohibited" from doing business with them.

Furthermore, the EDD is denied export licences and excluded from the American financial system.

Washington also blacklisted an additional 33 people and entities associated with Russian military and intelligence.
