@farmerman,
You should get a hint from the 7:15 statement from his press secretary.

Exactly right. We had to elect him to find out what he's up to.

Hey, Trump stayed on message today and he was spanking the GOP as much as the dems. SO whats next?
If he can get stuff done without further dividing the country, Ill listen to him. Right now, noobody knows anything about him or what the hell hes up to. SO th GOP supporters have got their fingers crossed and the DEMS, well, were still stinging.

He was on message indeed, and I agree he was clearly addressing both parties. So far the GOP Congressional Delegation appears to be united in support of Trump's plans. The test of course will come in the next few months as new legislation for ACA replacement, Tax Reform and the budget take shape. Time will tell, bur so far he apears to have excited a remarkable degree of unanimity among them.

The vetting process of his cabinet and other appointees has confirmed both the Democrats hostility and the emptiness of Schumer's threats and posturing: The Dems don't have the votes and can't really block anything if the GOP is united.

Trump's program is significantly divisive, as was Obama's. These are simply the consequences of how far left the progressive Democrats have gone. Early good results in the economy, if they occur, could moderate that.

Obama was divisive and accomplished nothing domestically while letting our security situation and foreign relations deteriorate badly. Trump can easily do better in both areas.

It will be interesting to see if the Democrats can get past their denial and indignation to start looking to the future. Not much progress so for, but for everyone's good I hope they can begin.

George, Our economy is doing just fine. Our GDP continues to grow.
It's slow by past standards, but it's a world of stagnant economies. With the strength of the dollar, it's difficult to export our goods.

@cicerone imposter,
GDP is growing t a rate about 1.5% per year below our historical levels. That's a very big deal in terms of economic activity, job opportunities and income. While official unemployment statics look good the fraction of working age people with full time employment is unusually low and employment opportunites for those entering the work force, with or without a college degree are few.

Trump is kinda like a shyster lawyer. You may not like the son of a bitch much, but he gets the job done. When the indictments against your ass come down, you're glad he's on your side.

@georgeob1,
That's because of two reasons; 1) the US dollar value is at an all time high, and 2) the world's economy is struggling. It takes all of Europe to equate the economy of the US.

@cicerone imposter,
More significant is that companies are sitting on hordes of cash, afraid to invest it in expansion because of the continuing explosion of mind numbing and initiative killing Federal Regulations over the past eight years. Much of that may change soon.

Anyone who has been reading the WaPo over the time Jennifer Rubin has been a columnist for the paper knows that she has been a favorite target of a dedicated cadre of left-wing clowns who enjoyed nothing better than coming together in the Comments section of every one of her columns and mocking her just as you might expect from the Mean Girls lunch table in HS.

Now she's becoming their darling thanks to her savage attacks against Trump.

Coincidence?

I don't know, but everyone likes to be liked. Maybe she cracked under the stress.

I read once that dentists have one of the highest suicide rates among professionals because just about all of their customers hate to see them.

@georgeob1,
We can always blame government for restraining commerce, but successful companies are created and develop into multinational companies. Much has to the with the skill of management and their products.
Here are ten countries with the highest tax rates, but manage to develop their business globally.

Trump's speech today effectively dismantled the DC political establishment in full view of the public. He's giving the American people an opportunity to take control of their government back from the political elites and the special interest.

Donald Trump is effectively the third-party candidate that everybody has been clamoring for and complaining about the corrupt two party system.

If he does nothing more than shows the American public there is an alternative to business as usual in the Cesspool that is Washington politics and that you don't have to be politically beholden to anyone in order to attain the highest office in the land, then he would have done a service to the political process that can never be repaid.

The question is what will the American public do with their new found control, for it is said that we get the government we deserve.

At least for the next four years we will have a President who truly believes in government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

I am always proud to be an American but I'm especially proud today. And as Mr Trump said, when you open your heart to patriotism there is no room for prejudice.

So my suggestion to the Trump detractors is to try a little patriotism... It just may do your heart some good and maybe your mind will follow.

@layman,
Ironically, after Daley set his police force to brutally deal with all protesters, violent or peaceful, the Left thought that the bloody scenes of mayhem playing out on TV for all America to see would tilt American voters towards them.

Maybe it was because Daley was a Democrat Strongman or maybe Americans were more afraid of violent protesters than the cops who beat them up, but in the end, the "law & order" candidate of the day, Richard Nixon won in a landslide, and the polls of the time seemed to indicate that the Chicago Riots of 1968 turned more people off re the Left and engendered sympathy.

Not only are these violent protesters criminals, they are cretins. If they truly were committed to "resisting" Trump they wouldn't be handing him the gift of video streaming of their mayhem.

@georgeob1,
Quote George:

That's because our population is growing much more slowly than our historical levels, and it has been going on for some time. Our population growth last year was 0.77%. Twenty years ago it was 1.17%. That's quite a difference.

GDP growth is inadequate to judge living standards or opportunities. For that, we look at GDP per capita, measuring the rise of economic output relative to the population growth. Here it is:

As you can see, after the setback the country got in 2008, the GDP per capita got right back on track. Conservatives have been down-talking this economy even as Millions of Full Time jobs are created yearly. It's a damn shame.

They do not hate Trump, they love anarchy. Interestingly those arrested will be tried federally because it's DC...They might not have realized that fact...Can't wait to see what they get charged with and what federal facility they get exiled to when convicted.

Always good to see our children getting a good education, eh?

Quote:
It happened Friday when an English teacher at Verdugo Hills High School drew a Hitler mustache on President Trump’s face.

A student in the classroom reportedly posted video of the image on Snapchat. A source with ties to the school sent me a series of photos taken from the video.

“The teacher told the students that Trump and Hitler are one in the same,” said the person who sent me the photographs.
