@Walter Hinteler,
And it was health care that did it. One little toe in the door and the next thing you know - Venezuela!

Back in 2013, Laura Ingraham, in a tweet criticizing Obama, wrote:
Quote:
We have gone from "Mr Gorbachev, tear down that wall" to "Mr Putin, whatever you think is best." #flexibility #USSR #Motherland

She has now deleted that tweet. Because she's read 1984.

@Walter Hinteler,
We aren't Germany. And besides, looks like your Universal Healthcare led to some pretty awful stuff in the early 20th century...

But that's very bad. Venezuela is the model. Not Israel, which has single payer. Not Australia. Not New Zealand. Not Canada. Not any nation in the free world (all of which have some form of socialized health care insurance/delivery). Go with Venezuela every time.

Any of those countries have the size, population and history as the US?

Yup, it's a pretty straight line from Otto von Bismarck's Health Insurance Bill of 1883 to the Holocaust. Isn't it, McGentrix?

@blatham,
That was indeed Obama's words, "I'll be more flexable when I' reelected". This was at the same time that Obama was telling Romney that the 80's wanted their foreign policy back. Remember, Russia wasn't a threat in 2012... Rolling Eyes

@Walter Hinteler,
It has to have a start somewhere and most of America is against more socialism being thrust upon us. It's fine for you guys in the EU and Canada but Americans like choice and socialism isn't choice.

@McGentrix,
You're most certainly not the only one.

Just don't tell georgeob1. He'll throw a hissy fit if you characterize a sizeable portion of Trump supporters as "undereducated."

@old europe,
The fact that so many of those voted for Trump who is already planning to cut taxes for the rich and famous is proof positive that most don't understand that Trump is a pathological liar.

I have an awful feeling Trump and Putin are going to keep people in humorous material for quite some time. I would laugh as well if he wasn't my president.

@blatham,
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office publishes an analysis that doesn't look as rosy as promised by Republicans?

Let's call their analysis "phony."

Interesting pattern here.

Two Trump boys and the sort of things they say.

A few hours ago, Roger Stone was on InfoWars. He said the following:
Quote:
Frank Thorp V ‏@frankthorp 2h2 hours ago
Roger Stone tells Alex Jones that he's typically very healthy, takes "InfoWars supplements," hasn't been to the doctor since he was a child.

Quote:
Frank Thorp V ‏@frankthorp 1h1 hour ago
Alex Jones ends segment where Roger Stone says he was poisoned: "The media is going to have a hard time ignoring this! They didn't get him!"

Quote:
Frank Thorp V ‏@frankthorp 1h1 hour ago
@lizzieohreally Roger Stone was on InfoWars, he said he was poisoned, very ill, and it was likely polonium...

(Thorp is with NBC News)

Nothing crazy or dishonest in any of that. The polonium is a nice touch. But my fave thing is the "InforWars supplements" and I'm certainly hoping that our right wing friends here either have these vital supplements or will immediately order some up.

@cicerone imposter,
Read it and weep.
http://money.cnn.com/2016/11/15/pf/taxes/trump-tax-plan/index.html

There are a couple of areas where there's likely to be resounding agreement between Trump and the House. Getting rid of all taxes associated with Obamacare, which they plan to repeal, and killing off the estate tax, long a GOP priority.
"The estate tax is history," said Len Burman, director of the Tax Policy Center.
Estate tax repeal, though, will only benefit the wealthiest Americans. Only about 0.2% of estates every year are subject to the federal estate tax.
