Criticism of the GOP's record on weapons sales internationally or nationally or any careful comparison between the two parties on these matters will not be a post we're likely to see from Lash. If the Democrats cannot be attacked, then there's pretty much no reason at all for Lash to write a post.

This is so cool. Who better than the sister of Blackwater founder Erik Prince to make such a plea for research/discussion into the role of guns in school (or other) shootings. Very promising outcomes from this.

No one is blaming Trump for the shootings. The reason he, and the GOP, are being criticized is not because they're to blame for the shootings that occur but because, beholden to the NRA as they are, they continue to block any attempts at dealing with the firearms side of the problem. And Trump gets blamed for using the bully pulpit to excuse gun violence rather than condemn it and the gun culture that accompanies it. There's much a president can do in terms of leadership on particular issues, even if the political will to pass legislation is lacking.

That's a big difference compared with the last president who, unable to pass legislation, at least gave voice to those who believe that it's too easy to access to firearms and set up a task force on gun violence (as opposed to mental health). The NRA and the compliant Republicans have been working for decades to make firearms a ubiquitous presence in USAmerican daily life and can be expected to resist even the smallest attempts at reform.

There's no simple fix and the most restrictive legislation is no guarantee that the violence would end. But should we not have posted speed limits because some people will continue to break them? Maybe in thirty or forty years, as the last of the Trump judges retire from the bench and we have a non-white majority we can re-write the 2nd Amendment and make it relevant to the 21st Century instead of the 18th.

Certainly not progressives or socialists either. The onus is on the GOP as they are the party in power.

Your stance of independence is belied by pretty much everything you write. The description of your motivation for writing what you write here is a credibility strainer such that I think Trump would you a fine sort. Your presumption (if you actually believe it) of being a beneficial educator to resident liberals because you can speak from a vantage point further to our left is something you must shout again and again. Because it doesn't make sense.

Then take 15 or twenty minutes and detail precisely how Trump, the modern GOP and conservatism in the US are guilty of these things. Do that with honesty and integrity and without being glib and your credibility will be enhanced to everyone here. And if you don't or can't, I really can't imagine why anyone would believe what you post.
