@layman,
Oh yes, and we all know Trump never lies. Rolling Eyes The WH has already confirmed Trump used vulgarity.

They might not want to head out west if they don't like driving too fast.

No one else mentioned driving at 65 mph — that was layman's red herring, trying to derail the discussion.

I accused Trump of being "reckless" because he has a way of shooting off his mouth and then having deny it of try to explain it away. As a head of state he should attempt to control these sorts of outbursts.

Well, but generally - and especially here on A2K - Trump’s base uniformly supports his racist comments.
And their opinion is more important than the opinions of everyone else, isn't it?
The right wing types who post here? Sure. But they are the folks who didn't fly over the cuckoo's nest, they grew up there.

That so? What was the "unguarded" part you singled out, eh?

@Walter Hinteler,
US ambassador to The Hague apologizes for making Muslim remarks after denial
Quote:
In extracts from an interview with De Telegraaf newspaper to be published in full on Saturday, Pete Hoekstra said that with hindsight, “I’m shocked I said it. It was a misstatement. It was simply wrong.”
[...]
A state department official said on Thursday the department did not agree with the 2015 remarks, adding that Hoekstra will visit Dutch Muslim communities over the weekend.

“The ambassador made mistakes in 2015, made comments that should not have been made. He recognises that,” under secretary of state Steve Goldstein told a Washington briefing.

“We have made clear to the ambassador that he must move to get this behind him. And he definitely understands that. He feels great remorse.”

Goldstein said Hoekstra’s comments were “not the position of the state department, and you will never hear those words from this podium or in any form”, he said.

President Trump is said to have referred Thursday to Haiti and other countries as “shithole countries.” But Mar-a-Lago, the President’s club and frequent retreat in Palm Beach, Florida, reportedly hires a large number of Haitian guest workers.

CNBC flagged Mar-a-Lago’s hiring practices Friday, citing a New Yorker report from March of last year.

Well, of course.

What a shame. I'd have been considerably ruder and more defiant.

Then again, diplomacy isn't really my thing.

No doubt about that.

But I had had the hope that American diplomacy had changed during the last couple of years to the better.

@oralloy,

The leftist belief that a non-white country can never be criticized (and that it is racism if someone dares to criticize them) is silly to say the least.

That's not a "leftist belief". Leftists commonly criticize shithole countries ruled by shitheads. I never heard any leftist accused of racism for denouncing Mugabe, Zuma, or Kabila, to name the leaders of three shithole countries. (Mugabe's an ex-leader)

Except Trump isn't playing the race card.

Except that many people perceive that to be just what he was doing. After appearing to go soft on amnesty and the "bill of love" and being widely denounced by his base for it he wins his way back into their good graces by reminding them that he ain't afraid to call a spade a spade.

He is just who we need to represent America to the world.

I agree. The rest of the world can now see just how squalid we really are.

@Walter Hinteler,
It's not much (and who wouldn't suspect the sincerity of this) but it is something. I'll forgive the dipshit when he honestly reveals where he got this idiotic and bigoted notion and why he took so long to make a correction and apology.

Profiles in courage and integrity featuring, again, Paul Ryan
Quote:
Nearly a day after reports surfaced that President Donald Trump referred to African countries as “shithole countries” in a White House meeting with lawmakers, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) called the remarks “unfortunate” and “unhelpful.”

“So, first thing that came to my mind, was, very unfortunate, unhelpful,” Ryan said when asked about Trump’s reported comments on Friday afternoon at an event in Milwaukee.

That party has become, top to bottom, a moral wasteland.

I don't much have a problem that he said they were 'shithole' countries.

You ought to hear how I refer to some of those places.

He doesn't want the PEOPLE from those countries in the USA.

Right, and that's just stupid. He's already said he'd like more of a merit system for determining who is allowed to enter the country. And I have no problem with that. So here's the thing — by saying that he doesn't want people from shithole countries he's basically concluding that none of the residents of those countries possess any useful skills or worthy characteristics. That's what sounds racist.

Wrong, even if you believe he said what the liars claim he did. He said no such thing. The black caucus had insisted that ALL lottery immigrants come from there (and other shitholes). Who's racist here?
