Greg gets this exactly right
Quote:
What this episode also does is shatter the endless euphemisms and dissembling that Trump and his allies have employed to obscure a related truth: that the nationalism at the core of Trumpism is heavily driven by a reactionary backlash to the current ethnic and racial mix of the U.S. population — it is white nationalism, despite all the what-me-racist protestation to the contrary.

Hoekstra, a former Republican congressman from Michigan, talked about “no-go zones” on several occasions; he had areferred to their presence in European cities multiple times in conservative medi before he became the ambassador.

A misstatement is once or maybe twice if in the same day. He, "referred to their presence in European cities multiple times in conservative medi before he became the ambassador" - he is lying through his teeth!

So you know the facts?

I wouldn't say I was following the story closely, but it looks to me like he made some comment in the past about how dangerous Islamic extremists were getting in that country, and a bunch of locals were throwing a tantrum about his past comment.

As for the accuracy of the past comment, I have no idea. But even if it was inaccurate, it hardly warrants the tantrum that people are throwing.

No. But I vaguely remember something about it on the news a long time ago.

Exactly.

Trump wrote:
The so-called bipartisan DACA deal presented yesterday to myself and a group of Republican Senators and Congressmen was a big step backwards. Wall was not properly funded, Chain & Lottery were made worse and USA would be forced to take large numbers of people from high crime countries which are doing badly. I want a merit based system of immigration and people who will help take our country to the next level. I want safety and security for our people. I want to stop the massive inflow of drugs. I want to fund our military, not do a Dem defund.

Any idea why that is unknown not only in the Netherlands but elsewhere? And why the ambassador now apologised for saying such?

Edgar Ray Killen, the preacher and Ku Klux Klansman convicted and sent to prison more than 40 years after he plotted the 1964 slayings of three civil rights activists in the "Mississippi Burning" case, died on Thursday night at the age of 92, Mississippi correction officials said.

Killen, who would have turned 93 on Jan. 17, was pronounced dead at the hospital at Mississippi State Penitentiary, according to a statement on the state Department of Corrections website on Friday.

Note, death is a solemn occasion and I understand those rites completely. This occasion is of note not for the death but that it happened in prison to someone guilty of commiting racists acts!

I see....people "briefed on the exchange," eh? Not people who were actually there, or anything. Just the kinda "evidence" that would be flatly prohibited in a court of law.

Nuthin like good ole hearsay for cheese-eaters. Like the Steele dossier, ya know?

Notice that even this version implies that people from places like Norway would NOT BE ACCEPTED. That's not accurate, as any fool would know. Nor does it indicate that NOBODY from the countries mentioned would be accepted. The whole thing just don't sound that reliable, know what I'm sayin?

@layman,
The way it was reported elsewhere, the proposal was to cut the diversity lottery in half, but only if the remaining 50% went ONLY to certain african and central american countries. In that sense, Norway and every other country WOULD be excluded (from the lottery, not general immigration).

This was a demand of the Black Caucus, they said.

Again, I ax ya: Who, if anyone, is being "racist" here? Who wants to exclude who?

"Do not recall". It was two days ago. Does Trump talk like this so often (or do Cotton and Perdue) that "shithole countries" didn't stand out?

Of course, they are lying but trying to cover their asses in case there's an audio recording or further verification from individuals who actually have integrity.

****, I despise these people.

Don't forget:

Quote:
David Friedman, a bankruptcy lawyer Trump has called a longtime friend and trusted adviser, has supported Jewish settlement building and advocated the annexation of the West Bank, which Israel captured from Jordan in the 1967 war.

His nomination has been fiercely opposed by some American Jewish groups.

Friedman repeatedly expressed regret for likening liberal American Jews to Jewish prisoners who worked for the Nazis during the Holocaust, telling the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in his opening statement, “I regret the use of such language.”

and, there of course are others.....<sigh> so sad!

Oh goodness.
Quote:
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), one of the lawmakers in attendance at the Thursday meeting during which President Donald Trump referred to African countries as “shithole countries,” said Friday afternoon that he said his “piece” to the President following the comments.

Graham’s statement did not confirm that Trump used the phrase “shithole countries,” but it did not deny that either, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) already said that Graham confirmed the comments to him privately.

Racist apologist are racists - by Bill's rule! No wiggle room allowed. Even if you can't say it in public. Is the desire to get Secretary of State that important?
