monitoring Trump and relevant contemporary events

I'm on a business trip to the east coast and after an over long day of meetings and a rather enjoyable group dinner I found myself a bit bored in the hotel and tuned into this thread after a long absence.

Much of the spice appears to have gone out of the thread now that you no longer have Layman to taunt you. Apart from Blatham and his loyal acolytes it appears there are only Lash and Finn to question the mutually reinforcing blather. Without that, and Hightor's occasional efforts at objective commentary, there would be only Blatham's posts announcing bits of required reading and the chorus of amens from the acolytes.

I am a bit surprised to observe that Setanta has gone so long without chiding everyone here to stick to issues regarding Trump, eschewing diversions of any kind, not meeting his approval. It appears he approves of the recent discussion of just where are the limits for male approaches to women. It is hardly a new issue in human affairs, but I'll agree it is certainly topical now. The rationalizations that occasionally appear in differentiating between abusers of left and right political persuasions are a bit delicious.

My best wishes to all. Blather on....

@georgeob1,
Maybe, but nothing is quite as delicious or toothsome as your occasional forays into attempts at snideness whilst partaking in overwrought scenery chewing tortured and larded up pronouncements that are as clever and subtle as a thunderous belch during solemn vespers. Have a safe trip back to the west coast......but speaking just on my own behalf and without prior permission by our leader, I’m always entertained by your full throated gas-baggery...and your pigheaded inability to realize when you have utterly humiliated yourself. Bravo

His translator stopped working, and his posts began to display in the original Russian. At that point, we simply reported him as a spammer and that was that.

@Finn dAbuzz,
OK, slick, tell us what made Wilson a fascist (before the term fascist even existed). Extra credit if you show you even know what makes someone a fascist.

@BillW,
You might be right, I only know him from outrageously vainglorious pretensions of ‘Renaissance man delusions’.

@glitterbag,
Too phunny. Aah McCain; you've done it again.....

(quote) Two-time presidential loser John McCain’s obsessive jealousy of Trump has been on full display since the day our new president was sworn into office. The 81-year-old traitor should’ve been put out to pasture long ago, but because term limits for US Senators don’t exist, the dried up old schmuck has been spending every waking hour plotting on ways to bring Trump down.

Several days ago, the brain-rotting old fart came out with his latest asinine claim against President Trump, saying in an interview with Esquire that he doesn’t support Trump as president because he “doesn’t think the president has a set of principles and beliefs.” But just days after McCain decided to throw mud at Trump from his ivory tower, a disturbing skeleton from McCain’s past is now starting to emerge, proving who really lacks “principles” in Washington D.C.

The past several weeks have been ridden with sex scandals surrounding many well-known liberals. We learned that Al Franken and Harvey Weinstein have sexually abused women for decades, and over the past 24 hours, Matt Lauer of the Today Show was fired from the network, as disgusting details surfaced about how he’d routinely turn his office into a “sex lair,” and had a secret button under his desk installed so he could lock the doors from the inside. Now it appears as though John McCain is the latest creep to join these sexual perverts, at the same time that McCain hypocritically calls for Roy Moore to exit Alabama’s U.S. Senate race.

When it comes to John McCain’s decisions, we’ve learned from his past antics that he’s always out for himself and he has little regard for his own political party, his family, or his constituents. Now it’s being revealed how McCain allegedly cheated on his wife of 37 years, after having an improper relationship with lobbyist Vicki Iseman.(end quote)

@Builder,
Oh really, he cheated on his wife???? He might be behind Trump who has cheated on all three of his wives.......and now is beginning to display symptoms of untreated syphilis.

@glitterbag,
You're again assuming that I like your president. Try and follow the conversation with a bit more interest, or is your memory giving you trouble> ??

And my comment was directed at the commentary of the article I posted. You've stopped trying to be phunny soooooooo long ago, I forgot you had the ability.

@Builder,
Oh egads, you’re offended. Good. Frankly, I don’t care what you think of my country or me. Your concerns about American politicians is of no consequence to Americans. As best I can tell, you hold everything about my nation in low regard. We are not losing any sleep over your opinions, try this, stick your hand in a bucket of water and then pull it out. Do you see much of a differences? Yeah, that’s what I thought....and that’s what I think about you. But, hey, thanks for commenting on McCain and shitting all over a man who spent too many years in the Hanoi Hilton and is dying of a brain tumor. You are a prince.

Nope. All good this end. No banana for glambag.

The rest of your tirade will be so much a repeat of every other time I've got under your skin, that I'm not gonna bother with it.

It's the first day of Summer here, and life's grand.

@Lash,

Do you believe in redemption?

That's an excellent question.

Quote:
Why do we need to talk about the redemption of men when we are right in the middle of the salvation of women?

Because any process of judgement or condemnation, to be fair, has to include the possibility of redemption and/or forgiveness. Otherwise it's just a hate fest.

Pertinent point. And men are also victims of rape, and abuse.

it's not all that complicated if people talk to each other
If I haven't been explicit about the need here, as elsewhere, for honest communication that has certainly been implicit. But it doesn't resolve all the problems inherent in this matter. If you know of some culture which is without turmoil in sexual matters, it would be one I haven't discovered.

I've been reading and writing about Cotton for years. He's very ambitious and he certainly was (though this is less clear now) tied in with the neoconservative crowd. I think he's a dangerous guy.

What's morally unacceptable IMO is coercion, pressures, rape of course, and sexual harrasment. But any and all physical contact should not be considered a problem IMO.
Sorry, perhaps my point wasn't clear enough. I was speaking to the many species of injustice that befall women within a patriarchy where their membership is second class.

There is nothing in here which is either false nor exaggerated. It shows up everywhere, in the workplace, in the military, in policing, in the arts, in legal issues etc etc

Actually no — you've done it again. I can't believe you'd actually submit a link to a well-known fake news site!

The Iseman story is old news that never quite reached the level of a scandal. And no one cares about his caddish treatment of his first wife 44 years ago. It has been repeatedly brought up but has never gotten any traction. It doesn't reflect a pattern of intimidation, harassment, or abuse.

Nothing here folks.
