I agree.

I'm somewhat politically engaged. I'm pretty happy with Trump so far.

I'm still waiting for the SHARE Act to be passed though.

Has anyone already posted this? Sums up the current political situation in the US pretty well.

America Is Not a ‘Center-Right Nation’
By Eric Levitz, November 1, 2017, The New York Times
http://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/01/opinion/democrats-economic-policy.html

I posted most of it on the OTHER thread.

@Olivier5,
Quote:
This argument may sound coolheaded and pragmatic. But its core premises — that American voters are hostile to progressive economics and have punished the (increasingly left-wing) Democratic Party accordingly — actually rest on ideological conviction, not empirical evidence.

In truth, the Republican Party’s dominance has little to do with the American electorate’s “center-right” ideology. We know this for two simple reasons: First, the vast majority of that electorate has no ideology, whatsoever. And second, when polled on discrete policy questions, Americans consistently express majoritarian support for a left-of-center economic agenda.

A lot of this article, while making very sound sense, is itself, pragmatic presumption.

According to a WaPo-ABC poll, Trump's approval rating remains historically low and confidence has declined.
That's puzzling, Walter.

Suddenly, it is no longer of ABSOLUTE CRITICAL IMPORTANCE! that terrorism suspects be sent to Guantanamo and kept out of the justice system.

Political experts are working hard to ascertain what might have changed in the principled and honorable Republican mind.

Trump's imminent fall will be all the more breathtaking to watch due to the fact that he has spent a lifetime throwing anyone under the bus if it benefits him. It's going to be a stampede running away from Trump, as more evidence of Russian involvement emerges.

@Builder,
I have a life. I'm not some sad git who posts at 2am. You're Trump's resident suckboy, you're the one whose posts are anything other than Trump.

I don't post about Clinton because she's not relevant, Trump is president and only Trump's lickspittles are talking about Clinton.

There is a thread on Saudi Arabia, and recent missile strikes from Yemen and interference in Lebananon are far more pressing than anything that may have occurred between the Clintons and the Saudi Royal family.

https://able2know.org/topic/421921-1<br />
Then again, all you do is trawl the internet and post stories that take the attention off Trump.

Despite your unconvincing lies, you really are a complete sycophant. That's why you keep mentioning me because you're so upset that I see right through your horseshit.

Now you can go on a rant about how Clinton faked the moon landings and was behind 9/11 but don't expect anyone other than your fellow lickspittles to pay any attention.

Another example in that frightening trend at universities to curtail the free speech rights of the politically incorrect.
Quote:
Liberty University, the evangelical Christian college founded by the late political firebrand and Moral Majority leader Jerry Falwell, removed visiting anti-Trump evangelical author Jonathan Martin from its campus and its president announced he would be permanently barred.

Martin, a longtime critic of Liberty University’s close association with the Trump administration, was visiting the Lynchburg, Virginia, campus earlier this week as a guest of Johnnyswim, a band that was performing on campus, and had planned to host a prayer meeting with like-minded students the following morning. Instead, Martin told Vox, armed security guards escorted him out of the backstage area following the show.

If it is possible to successfully prosecute a terrorist in normal criminal court, I'm fine with doing so.

But we still need Guantanamo as a place to detain the terrorists who cannot be successfully prosecuted but who can still be classified as enemy combatants.

Is the term "terrorists who cannot be successfully prosecuted" just a euphemism for innocent people captured by mistake? Seems that if you're going to label a person a "terrorist" he must have committed some act for which he can be prosecuted. And why is an expensive facility like Guantanamo needed for detention? If the case is so doubtful that the government doesn't feel it can legally hold the suspects on US territory it has no business detaining them at all.

It could never happen in America. All similarities between this historical footage and Trump rallies are merely coincidental and of no importance whatsoever.

From Charles Pierce
Quote:
I honestly believe that the Democratic Party does not yet appreciate the fact that it is the only viable political vehicle capable of resisting the existential threat that is Trumpism, nor does it realize that time is growing very short. At the moment, it can’t get out of its own way and the clock is ticking ever louder.

Trump's supporters don't want us to be having a conversation with Trump which is why they constantly change the subject. I have looked at the BBC website re Saudi corruption and the comments of Trump's cheerleader Builder.

Quote:
The heir to the throne in Saudi Arabia has consolidated his hold on power with a major purge of the kingdom's political and business leadership.
A new anti-corruption body, headed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, detained 11 princes, four sitting ministers and dozens of ex-ministers.
Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, a billionaire with investments in Twitter and Apple, is among those held.
Separately King Salman replaced the national guard and the navy chiefs.
The new anti-corruption committee has the power to issue arrest warrants and travel bans.
Attorney General Sheikh Saud al-Mojeb said the status of the detainees would not influence "the firm and fair application of justice", AFP news agency reports.
Saudi broadcaster Al-Arabiya said fresh investigations had been launched into the 2009 Jeddah floods and the outbreak of the Mers virus which emerged in Saudi Arabia in 2012 - but analysts see the detentions as a clear move by the crown prince to strengthen his power base.

I've read the article and can't find any reference to Clinton. I did, however find this,

Quote:
Prince Alwaleed once bought control of a hotel and a yacht from Donald Trump,

and this.

Quote:
The owner of London's Savoy hotel is one of the richest men in the world, with a net worth of $17bn (£13bn) according to Forbes.
Shares in Kingdom Holding, the investment firm owned by the prince, plunged 9.9% in early trade on the Saudi stock market after news of his detention emerged.
The firm is one of Saudi Arabia's most important investors. Apart from Twitter and Apple, it has shares in Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, Citigroup bank, the Four Seasons hotel chain and ride-sharing service Lyft.

Quote:
Former US Republican President George Bush Sr has confirmed he voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, labelling Donald Trump a "blowhard".
His son, George W Bush, said he worries that "I will be the last Republican president", even though President Trump is a Republican.
"This guy doesn't know what it means to be president," the younger man said.
The pair's comments come from a new book, titled The Last Republicans.
Preview excerpts from the book were published by US media outlets.
"Blowhard" is a casual term for a person who is boastful or blustering, the Oxford English Dictionary says, and it is usually meant as an insult.
"I don't like him. I don't know much about him, but I know he's a blowhard. And I'm not too excited about him being a leader," said George Bush Sr, who was president between 1989 and 1993.
He also told the author of the book, Mark Updegrove, that he felt Mr Trump ran for the presidency because he had "a certain ego", in remarks reported by US media outlets including CNN and the New York Times.

Ditto.

People used to wonder why a nation like Germany, which nurtured intellectual and cultural giants, could have allowed the rise of National Socialism. Now we get to witness a similar political deterioration in the USA — minus, of course, the great intellectual and cultural tradition. The current situation in the "progressive" community resembles that of an over-crowded chicken coop where hens peck at each other in the dim light, the atmosphere suffused with ammonia. I've often criticized one of the resident Trump followers around here for his oft-repeated prediction that the GOP will hold power for another 20 years. Given the fractious behavior of the opposition and its inability to look ahead, I'm starting to think he may be right.

@snood,
Technically it's people who are familiar with the situation saying that, but yeah. Nothing we didn't know already but it's nice to see things moving along.

Guarantee they're going to throw the book at Flynn's son. I would.

The best part about all this is that these guys are such scumbags, you don't even have to feel slightly bad for them. I hope Mueller uses every tactic in the book to nail them to the wall.
