@cameronleon,
Quote:
Best is to stop playing the National Anthem, best is banning the use of the American flag in NFL games.

Wow — I'm substantially in agreement with cameronleon!

North Korea's foreign minister has accused US President Donald Trump of declaring war on his country.
Ri Yong-ho told reporters in New York that North Korea reserved the right to shoot down US bombers.
This applied even when they were not in North Korean airspace, the minister added. The world "should clearly remember" it was the US that first declared war, Mr Ri said.

As far as I can remember, the American audience and the players have always stood during the national anthem.

Found this article on the topic.

Quote:
“Players are encouraged but not required to stand during the playing of the National Anthem,” the NFL said in a statement issued Saturday, in response to the controversy that emerged when 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick opted not to stand during the playing of the national anthem on Friday night in Santa Clara, prior to a game against the Packers.

I, personally, think patriotism is kind of strange.

To make it mandatory for public figures, is borderline fascist.

and, fascism is nationalism and nationalism is is trumpism and trumpism is white supremacism and so it goes - full circle!

I did not know that. But I am completely unsurprised. No individual, I believe, has had a more malign influence on western politics and civic life over the last few decades than Rupert Murdoch.

But, they are all as a group anti-Globalists? This sounds like a global activity....

Sec. Mnuchin to @MarthaRaddatz: "It's not about free speech." NFL players "can do free speech on their own time." http://abcn.ws/2wK5bND

Football stadium as cotton plantation. Pickers are owned. Get back to work, niggers.

You should be consistent in your comments.

The 1st Amendment guarantees speech free from governmental interference

If firing a teacher because she posts comments on Facebook that are perceived to be racist is not a violation of the 1st Amendment (despite the fact that public schools are an extension of the government) then surely a private employer can do the same with their employees. So technically Mnuchin is correct.

BTW your analogy is utterly ridiculous. The average NFL salary is $1.9 million a year. Pretty good wages for a slave.

Quote:
After all, it's only a game, and they are players only, they get paid for playing in the stadium, not so for making the ridiculous trying to change the American culture with such a childish behavior.

Yeah, that right is reserved for Nazis, KKK, White Supremacists, Trump, AltRights and others only, right?

Ah. Limousine liberals. I see.

Curious how our Bernie-the Socialist supporter has such facility with right wing conceptions/cliches/talking points.

"Limousine liberal" doesn't strike me as a right-wing conception. Mocking middle-class liberals for their perceived fair-weather stances has a long history on the left. Think "Love me, I'm a liberal" etc. All would seem to fit quite well for a socialist.

@Finn dAbuzz,
I have to censure myself completely on social media due to my job.
There's no way many of us could share political or social views at our job without losing the job.

Many times, it would be totally inappropriate to share views for a myriad of reasons.

In the case of multimillionaire professional athletes, they have leverage and money to fall back on if they lose their jobs.

It's still a risk, but not as drastic as it would be for most of us.

Free speech doesn't mean there are associated consequences. Your employer is often protected by a contract.

It sure helps that their employers are in full support of their players. Many team owners issued statements of support and even joined their players on the sidelines in protest.

You don't have to worry about getting fired if your boss has your back.

There's something different about the President attacking citizens and pushing for them to get fired though.

One of the upstanding(no wait, kneeling) player's for the Giants got down on all fours after scoring a touchdown, then lifted one leg as if a dog taking a wizz. The mentality of a lot of the NFL players is barely over age 12, just like Trump. I can't even imagine what the team owners have to put up with behind the scenes, because there are no adults around there, it's a battle between morons.
