@Cycloptichorn,

Good thing we have a leader who's totally prepared to deal with unprecedented disasters.

I understand his hotel gift shops are now fronting a line of MAGA hip-waders. Also, to aid in the Houston area cleanup, he's personally covering the cost of 1000 ShamWows.

Exclusive: Trump Jr. told Senate investigators he wanted Russian dirt to determine Clinton’s "fitness" for office http://nyti.ms/2eOU5iT

Because if it was really bad dirt then she shouldn't be allowed to adopt a Russian child, you see.

@Cycloptichorn,
I'm not disagreeing with you at all, but I'm very happy to see both sides working together (at least for now). I've wanted that for a long time and I don't think we've seen any meaningful bipartisanship in decades. Not saying I trust Trump or that this is the start of something more than it is, but I'll be a bit happier if things start to get done.

I don't know which, if any of you, have read anything by Ta Nehisi-Coates. I hope you will take a few minutes out of your time to read his perspective on the trump presidency. It's called "The First White President"

@blatham,
So I wonder if the denier-in-chief is ready now to maybe think a little about the climate change models which have for a decade predicted much stronger tropical storms, and maybe it's time for Trump's dolts and doofuses in the EPA to stop weakening and rolling back regulations. It
's time for them lto step up to the plate, even if they need a Cajun airboat to get there. ******* idiots on so many levels, just like the POTUS.

@Cycloptichorn,
I'm no fan of Ryan or McConnell but there's a very real danger here. Meadows was a key figure in the ouster of John Boehner. He was one of the architects of the 2013 government shutdown. He chairs the Freedom Caucus, the furtherest right of any congressional group. And he's tight with the Koch brothers.

Bannon has recently been working to cement ties between the Kock/libertarian/tea party crowd and the religious right crowd believing that cooperation between both groups is necessary to gain further control of the Republican Party.

To put all this another way, what we're looking at is a growing and well-organized and financed dynamic that is pushing the GOP further and further to the right and towards authoritarianism.

I'm guessing we both think this quite unlikely. Even if things get worse, say if Irma or one of the other hurricanes now brewing in the Atlantic does significant damage to Florida or states on the east coast, there's no indication I can see that RW media nor the powerful energy sector will move even an inch in the direction of honesty/sanity on global warming and its causes.

Florida, likely to be whacked by hurricanes over the next week or two...
Quote:
By Tristram Korten
Florida Center for Investigative Reporting

The state of Florida is the region most susceptible to the effects of global warming in this country, according to scientists. Sea-level rise alone threatens 30 percent of the state’s beaches over the next 85 years.

But you would not know that by talking to officials at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the state agency on the front lines of studying and planning for these changes.

DEP officials have been ordered not to use the term “climate change” or “global warming” in any official communications, emails, or reports, according to former DEP employees, consultants, volunteers and records obtained by the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting.

Repetition of what you wrote doesn't clarify your meaning. What are you trying to say?
