@layman,
Quote Layman:

".... the city of Charlottesville declared the alt-right protest an unlawful assembly — effectively cancelling the demonstration before its planned start time."

Typical left wing speech repression, eh?

No, more like a full-fledged riot had broken out complete with fist fights, people taken to the hospital, and police having to use tear gas to break up the violence.

From your own quoted link:
Quote:
White nationalists, as well as apparent neo-Nazis and Ku Klux Klan members, were met in opposition by clergy members and other groups, who stood in a line singing "This Little Light of Mine" to drown out the profanity and slurs.

"Love has already won. We have already won," the counter-protesters responded early Saturday.

But as the violence intensified with shoving and punching, demonstrators covered their mouths after tear gas was apparently released into the crowd.

All this happened before the scheduled "demonstration". Get a clue, or something.

@revelette1,
From NY Times, as quoted by Revelette:
Quote:
WASHINGTON — A cabal of leftist “deep state” government workers, “globalists,” bankers, adherents to Islamic fundamentalism and establishment Republicans are conspiring to remove President Trump and impose cultural Marxism in the United States, according to a former White House aide whose darkly worded memo detailing the alleged conspiracy got him removed last month from the National Security Council.

Good catch, Rev. You know, it's amazing the collection of Froot Loops Trump has put together to try to run the country. We can only assume that all the mental health facilities in the country released half their patients, and they all got jobs in the Trump Administration.

@layman,
Were you there, or have video, of who went over to who and threw punches first? Among the counter-demonstrators were pastors, not a group known to encourage violence. How many pastors were leading the white nationalists?

And yes, white nationalism is a different philosophy from American nationalism, British nationalism, or any other country's nationalism. A country's nationalists seek to promote thier country's interests, including all the citizens of that country. White nationalists seek to promote their chosen group, the white race, to the detriment of other groups. If you are a nonwhite American with medals for valor in battle, white nationalists see you as the enemy.

China's President Xi Jinping has urged Donald Trump and North Korea to avoid "words and actions" that worsen tensions, state media say.
Mr Trump and North Korea have been exchanging hostile rhetoric, with the US president threatening to rain "fire and fury" on the North.
According to Chinese state media, Mr Xi told Mr Trump in a phone call that "all relevant parties" should stop "words and deeds" that would exacerbate the situation.
Mr Xi also stressed China and the US shared "common interests" over denuclearisation and maintaining peace on the Korean peninsula.

Both Xi and Putin are trying to present themselves as more statesmanlike and presidential than Trump. Whatever happens the damage to Trump has been done. No American president should be compared to the NK leadership, but that keeps happening more and more.

@izzythepush,
It's an old trick you see in show business all the time. Some No-Name actor tries to start a public feud with a famous performer, thereby elevating his profile in the media to the same level as the famous star.

North Korea and it's savvy allies, Russia and China, are playing Trump beautifully.

Heh. Yeah, these thugs put on their masks before the ever left home because it helps them read the sheet music, eh?

Well, if they wanted see sheets, they couldn't have gone to a better place than a Klan rally.

@layman,
You're equating the KKK and neo-Nazis with "peasants with torches and pitchforks who aint takin no **** from elitist cheese-eaters." You sound like you actually identify with them. I'm reminded of Communists who would call their secret police thugs as "workers."

@layman,
Personally, I would have stayed away since there was likely to be violence. Whenever there are hotheads on both sides, there's likely to be violence.

Besides, freedom of speech is (or should be) for everyone. For what it's worth (which, in the scheme of things, isn't much), I agree with maxdancona's latest posts about freedom of speech.

By the way, counterprotesters have just as much right to speak out.
