Hi Friends...

Beth..What beautiful pictures of Sandbanks--I looked at all of them!! Made me homesick for the water, and the beach, and the creatures, and the driftwood. Clear, clear water--you can see the beautiful stones in the shallows. Maybe I can sneak away to Lake Havasu, CA., before it gets too chilly. Thanks!!

Matrix...Hi! thanks for the links you posted. We're not getting much news about the spill yet. At least not many pictures. I've only been through Seattle, never to the Sound. I think I will have to do that someday. Our West coastline is truly a wonder. We are so lucky.

I am feeling so much better so I can offer hope that the misery does pass. When you are too sick to read--or watch TV--well, that is my definition of yucksville. Hang in Stradee...it does pass. (No pun intended)

Hi Beth & Set. I'm so happy you are have a great time!!

ww

oh, yeah...clicked!! Very Happy

Matrix, thanks for printing the news and links! Haven't heard anything about the spill from the media yet.

Volunteer groups amazing, arn't they?

We're innundated with drifting smoke from the fire - terrible for three days now. News reports say the air should clear by tomorrow, then we can brace ourselves for a storm. Will quell what's still smoldering at higher elevations, but if the storm lasts, mud and flooding will be the next hurdle the area will have to contend with.

Highway 50 was closed day before yesterday, but 80 along the corridor open for travel. Your mom, aunt and moms friend are more than likely ok, Matrix. Forestry would have deterred their route had they been traveling anywhere near the fire hazard - plus digital electric signs placed along the freeway alerting people about existing cautions, etc.

Sending good thoughts for you moms safety. She'll probably call you today saying all is well. Smile

Thanks woodworker and matrix for the kind words. Am staying warm and o.d.ing on comtrex. Should be better by tomorrow hopfully.

ehBeth, i'd luv seeing your photos, but the link wasn't visible. Could you repost? thanks

Wishing sumac a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Have a great day!

Hi all,

Clicked!!

Nice pictures ehBeth - I saw them all.

Good stuff re the oil spill Matrix. The photos really don't show whats really happening. The doctor here (whose son lives in Seattle) said the spill was only one thousand gallons - but that is enough to really do some damage.

Stradee,
Wow, more fire. I bet the smoke is not pleasant with your illness - here is hoping you get much better soonest.

Happy Birthday Sumac!!!!!!

Hi...!
Clicked for pwayfarer and myself just after midnight last night...Daughter wants the computer today.

wordworker...
I'm so glad you're feeling better. When I've had the flu I've felt like I was gonna die. It's nasty stuff - they should outlaw it, really... Laughing

You really must see Puget Sound if you're ever in western WA again. There are some extremely beautiful places around it, and with the Olympic Mountains on one side and the Cascades a little farther away on the other...yeah.

Stradee...
Thanks for the update on the fires. I wasn't really worried about my mom being in any danger from them, just kind of curious as to whether or not she would have seen any of the areas involved. She and my dad had a place that they would drive down to every year and since he's been gone, she's driven down there a couple of times with my aunt. Never really know how long she's going to be gone - guess you could call that a perk of retirement, huh? Smile

I, on the other hand, would have great problems being down there right now as I have a tremendous allergy to wood smoke. It used to not bother me, but anymore...

I think ehBeth said that she wouldn't be back until Monday, so I'll leave the link to the picture site that she left on an earlier post of hers below.

Keep doing what you need to be doing to get well.

Hi, danon...

Didn't see you when I posted earlier. Hope you're feeling more like yourself again, today. Smile

Re the oil spill, you're right, the pictures really don't show just how bad it is. This was the last paragraph on today's story at KING's website:

"One of the few fortunate things is the wintering seabirds have not come in their greatest numbers yet," Fletcher said. "When the birds do come in force, if the stuff they eat has been poisoned, that's going to be a bad situation."

Sumac, I wasn't aware that today was your day, so please accept my somewhat belated, Happy Birthday!!! Very Happy

Hi Danon,

The smoke from the fire finally cleared, and yer right. Was a bit difficult trying to breath with congestion. Yukky... but now the skys
blue, brisk winds picking up, and tomorrow news reports forecasting rain. How did your test go? Sending good thoughts for positive results. Give Pattie our best also for her continued recovery.

woodworker, meditating that nobody ever gets the flu again! Gosh, the darned thing knocks a person out! Am off the couch for the day though, and tomorrow plan going to work half day.

Matrix, feeling much better now, thanks. One of the herd isn't doing to well though.
Poor kitty stopped eating a few days ago and he looks terrible! Hope its just from the weather and not something more serious. Am keeping close watch on his little face though, and right now he's all cozy asleep on a heat blanket and pillow. Smile

Luved the link and pics from Sandbanks! What a beautiful place! Plus Alki at sunset spectacular! I'm determined to do some traveling before me old bones wear out.

Have a good evening all ~

October 17, 2004 - Sunday - the beginning of the rest of our lives.

Sound significant?????

Actually, just another day.

Except that today we lose more trees in the rainforests of the world than are saved.

We have to work harder to save the environment that gives us our life's air.

Keep those clicks coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MORE, BETTER, FASTER

Every hour, 6000 acres of rainforest are lost from logging, cattle ranching, mining, dams, and oil exploration.

aktbird57 - You and your 282 friends have supported 1,576,630.7 square feet!

we're baaaaaaaaaaaack!

great little road trip. 10 or was it 11? days away. we stayed with hamburger and mrs. hamburger and had some nice road trips.

jeanbean, you can definitely swim at Sandbanks during the summer months. Miss Cleo went in the water there on Thursday - the rest of us just ran on the sand. The day before the Sandbanks trip we travelled north to Lake Mazinaw - another beautiful destination - pictographs on the cliff walls - marvellous. A couple of days later I went to a really interesting auction - the estate of a fella who wrote history texts - his estate included some interesting masks and arrowheads and stuff found when he was working in British Columbia in the 1920's. On the second last day of the trip, all 6 of us travelled to the 1000 Islands National Park, just under the Ivy Lea Bridge to the U.S. Another great day!

Welcome home ehBeth and Setanta,

Great links - the park reminds me of Teddy Roosevelt during his term as president - when he began the U S Park systems. (Established about the same time period as your park)

There are so many places to visit - and so little time.

Hi, everyone...we're all clicked in for the day.

Got my absentee ballot mailed in, so I'm feeling hopeful about that. Keeping my fingers crossed, anyway...

The oil spill in Puget Sound is getting cleaned up, although the crews are nowhere near being done, and the Coast Guard has issued subpoenas but they aren't releasing many details about their investigation, yet.

Stradee...
I hope your little guy is doing better and that it was just the weather (or maybe all of the smoke in the air) as you said that was making him feel yucky.
I hope also, that you're continuing to feel better, too.

sumac...
I'm still thinking about you and hoping that you're feeling better, too.

Hi, wordworker...
Computer time. It is a challenge to get my computer away from them at times, but we've kind of agreed to a usage schedule that's evolved over the past few months. I used to use it late at night, but that time has kind of been hijacked by my son, and my daughter wants to use in in the evenings a lot, but not every night. I'd started getting on early in the day (half asleep) that hasn't been easy to do lately, either. The biggest problem right now is having to keep our land line open during much of the day in case there are questions regarding the sale of my m-i-l's house, or her estate, etc. Don't really want to give my cell # out to all those people and have them calling me with questions that I legally can't answer when Mr. Matrix isn't home. Because he's the trustee of the estate, he's the one who has to talk to them - not me. Luckily, we heard from the real estate agent last night that she believes the house may go into closing sometime later this week. Then, there's a few more things that need to go into the trust (including the sale of some cemetery plots that need to be sold), and after that, hopefully, the trust will be resolved. Can't be too soon as the "way aforementioned relatives from hell" are still making life difficult by continuously wanting to know how much there is and when they will get their share, and have even tried threatening legal action against the estate. My m-i-l's lawyer sent their lawyer a letter today telling them to back off or else. I'll just be glad when life gets back to it's regular, hectic, unorganized self. That's sounding real good right about now. Smile

ehBeth...
Your trip must have been wonderful. The pictures of the places you visited are beautiful. (Zazu is only slightly jealous of Bailey and Miss Cleo Laughing ). That auction must have been fascinating!

I've had the pleasure of posting on a thread or two with hamburger for the first time during the past couple of weeks and I really like him. Somebody has somebody's sense of humor - either you or him...
