A toast to your father going to meet up with your mother, just Susan.
I'm so glad I had a chance to see his photo the other night. It's made me smile a few times, reflecting on it.
Hi, everyone...
Still have some clicking to do today, but wanted to drop by first and say, hey!
Was very lucky to get my flu shot today. My husband, son and I all made a mad dash to the local Costco and waited in line for just over two hours for the coveted needle. They gave over 400 shots there just this morning - and you had to fill out a form proving that you were in a high-risk group or a caregiver of someone who is. A lot of people were turned away because they didn't fit the criteria. Scary!
The group of specialist clinics that my daughter goes to has been given only 30 vials of the vaccine for all of their patients - 30 vials = 150 shots. That's it! When you think of all of the kids with chronic health concerns like diabetes, heart and kidney problems, cancer and the like, there certainly isn't much to go around. We've been assured that our daughter will be one of the recepients of the vaccine from her doctor, so we feel really lucky.
BTW...thank you for the nice thoughts being sent my daughter's way, but she's fine, really. She has to see her specialist every three months or so, and a couple of times a year she has one of those visits like the one the other day which are really involved and take a lot of time, and can be a bit exhausting.
pwayfarer...
I'm glad to hear that you're feeling a bit better. Add me to the list of those who are looking forward to seeing the pictures of your trip! Take care, and get well soon!
Just Susan
What a blessing for you, your Dad, and your entire family. To feel such peaceful acceptance - with understanding and gratitude. But hey, I'm Irish too. Hoist one for me to your Dad.

just susan...
Thank you so much for sharing your dad with us here in the Rainforest. He was such an incredible spirit - I loved the stories about him that you shared with us...
In my heart, I know what you're feeling and going through, but in my mind, I can't find the words to express how I feel. I am so happy that you had a chance to spend the time you did with your dad - just to be together and say those things that needed to be said. It's such a precious gift for everyone involved. I could tell by your postings how much you were lifting your dad's spirits...we could tell by his actions how much your love was affecting him. He was a very lucky man to have you as his daughter.
When my first husband died, we gave him an Irish wake (he was an Irish Catholic) and it was incredible. Even though he was very young when he died (23) he'd always said before that if/when he died, he wanted all of his loved ones to have a great party on him, so we did. It was a wonderfully loving way for all of his favorite people to send him off onto his next adventure...
Here's to your dad and your mom on their new adventure together - may they both live happily in your heart and memories forever.
Clicking agian. Ehbeth, let me know how you can click for me--you could have clicked while we were in Denver and during the time we will be in Boston and the rest of the coast. My name on Care2 is Dinae6905. Also, let me know if clicking on the prairies is counted--if not, I'll start clicking on the rain forest again.
Although I didn't get to know very many abuzz clickers, my sympathy goes out to you, justsusan, for the loss of your father. It sounded like a beautiful passing.
And to Matrix, so glad your daughter is doing well and that all of you were able to get your flu shots. Here in Albuquerque, people without serious health problems are being asked to go without flu shots for the sake of those with health problems. I hope it isn't a bad year for flu and that the scarcity of vaccine doesn't cause needless loss of life.
Sumac, it is wonderful to see you here again!
And you, Di. Hugs to Dys. If you haven't been on topica recently, there is important news about me there. Will go click now.
Hi all,
sumac, what's topica?
ulschmid, This coming season in Vienna sounds so nice - the Mozart Days, The Chagall at the Albertina and last but not least the Cookery Courses - especially the Cooking in Vienna course. That would be so great to attend. I absolutely love Viennese cooking over all in the world I have tasted - so far that is, I'm still tasting when I can.......lol
Good clicking to everybody........
Trying to catch up.
justsusan, I am sorry about your loss.
Good to see you wayfarer, you have been to a beautiful part of France. Have you visited the monastry of St-Martin de Canigou, too?
Many years ago we travelled from Montpellier to Biarritz in an old, hand painted 2CV. It took us 5 weeks, not because of the old car, but because of all the things we could explore.
Wangari Muta Maathai- the Nobel Price winner.
..."Wangari Maathai founded the Green Belt movement in Kenya in 1977, which has planted more than 10 million trees to prevent soil erosion and provide firewood for cooking fires....."

Tomorrow the long nights of the museums again.
Just cooking here- dinner guests tonight. Shall I save a place for you and Patty?
Fall lettuce with wild mushrooms, pumpkin soup, deer, red cabbage, filled apples, pears, chestnut cream.
Ooooooooooo my goodness ul - - -
Ooooooo, I haven't words to describe how good that sounds.
Ooooooo, I'm lost. And I shall wander around in our kitchen in a daze for the rest of this day.
Cut it out, Ul. It is lunch time here on the east coast. Off to Wilmington. Later.

LOL it's just after breakfast here!
And dinner time in Vienna, where Ul resides. And boy, can she cook up some fine eating!
And she makes it all sound soooo good--and it is!
Ul, I read about Maathai. She is a remarkable woman, espcially so for rising above years of repression because of being a woman.
Here is a picture of her:
Sumie, my thoughts are with you. I'll call later today. Love you.
Something else I found of interest to clickers about the boreal forest of North America:
Boreal Forests of North America
http://www.nwf.org/nationalwildlife/article.cfm?articleId=989&issueId=70
Here are two paragraphs from the article: (green highlight is mine)
But this songbird mecca is in jeopardy. The roar of chainsaws and the oily grind of bulldozers are beginning to drown out the birdsong. The boreal holds vast reserves of natural gas and timber. To extract these commodities, large areas of the forest are being divided and fragmented by pipelines and service roads.

Diane,
That is terrible to read. We are all at fault and it will only become worse as the population increases. Add to that the frightening aspect of the population of China becoming more afluent and demanding resources in the near future. No one should have to wonder what will happen then.
As Kenya and other poor nations have borne witness (Haiti?), destroy the habitat and everything goes.
sumac,
It's so sad to read that all the forests of Haiti have been destroyed.
Hello, Boys and Girls,
It's Saturday!! And there's no school today!!
(((Just recalling something I heard on a radio that at the time stood head and sholder taller than me. That same radio is sitting in my Mom's barn as I type this. It's about half my height now. lol)))
All clicked..............
