Clinton Hospitalized

Various news sources report that Bill Clinton has gone into a hospital with chest pains, had a heart attack, or is undergoing quadruple bypass surgery. Info is sketchy at best.

How do the Clinton haters feel about this, I wonder, especially those who see the evil hand of Hillary behind everything that happens. Could this be her doing, as a way of getting him out of the way so she finally gets all the attention she craves? Have at it, fellas and gals!

Former President Clinton to Have Multiple Bypass Surgery
Heart Trouble
Former President Bill Clinton to Have Multiple Bypass Surgery
Sept. 3, 2004 ?- Former President Bill Clinton will undergo quadruple heart bypass surgery in New York City, ABCNEWS has learned.

Clinton, 58, is planning to undergo the operation at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan on Saturday, a source close to Clinton told ABC News.

The severity of Clinton's coronary problem was discovered after tests this morning at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y., a source said. His coronary results were not favorable and he was found to have multiple lesions, the source added.

A senior source with the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said the campaign is aware of Clinton's hospital trip this morning, but that there is contradictory information about the diagnosis and what's next. Campaign officials are said to be closely monitoring the situation.

ABC News' medical editor Dr. Tim Johnson said that without more information, it's hard to know how serious Clinton's situation is, but that he very well could enjoy a healthy recovery.

"It's a very routine operation," Johnson said. "He has in his favor that he's a relatively young man and in other ways appears to be in relatively good health."

Still Active, Popular

Clinton, who served two terms as president from 1993 to 2001, recently returned to the public eye. He gave a televised primetime speech at the Democratic National Convention in July, and released My Life, his best-selling memoir, this summer.

Though he always has had bitter detractors, Clinton's popularity remains high, according to a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll. As he started a book tour in June, the poll showed his retrospective job approval rating at 62 percent, topping its average during his presidency.

After chest pains, Clinton set to undergo bypass surgery

NEW YORK (AP) ?- Former President Bill Clinton is scheduling heart bypass surgery after tests revealed significant blockage, his office confirmed Friday

President Clinton checked himself into a New York City hospital on Friday.
By Jennifer Graylock, AP file

The surgery was not likely to take place Friday, but instead at a later date, said a Democratic Party official close to Clinton who had discussed the medical condition with the former president's staff.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Clinton went to his doctor on Thursday after experiencing chest pains and discomfort.

The doctor suggested that the former president undergo an angiogram, which was administered Friday. That test revealed "significant blockage," said the official.

Asked if the former president had suffered a heart attack, the official said he did not think the president had done so.

Clinton checked himself into a New York City hospital on Friday after suffering chest pains, a Democratic Party official and a police source said.

The former president canceled a two-day joint trip with his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, across upstate New York because of medical issues.

Clinton's mother-in-law, Dorothy Rodham, of Little Rock, said the former president called her after he was struck with the chest pains. She said he sounded good.

"He sounded wonderful as usual and very upbeat as he always is," she said. "I just told him how much I love him."

Mrs. Rodham said she didn't know if he was in the hospital when he called.

I may not have liked his policies or his morals, but I do hope all goes well for him medically speaking.

I wish the man well. Today many people are walking around, hale and hearty after bypass surgery. I have heard it called, "The zipper club"!

Hillary's detractors will have it made. She'll either be neglecting her spouse or short-changing the people of New York State.

Indeed, Noddy. I'm rather disappointed in them right now. I thought they'd be swarming to this thread like maggots. Instead, just a few, almost-polite comments. Civility about the Clintons? Who'd a thunk it...

D'artagnan--

Perhaps all concerned--and all kibitzers--recognize the need for Heart Repair? I can pretend until the first hostile post, can't I?

I saw a recent interview with Clinton. He was showing his house in NY. I thought he didn't look so hot--but I thought it was just age. He's usually really into those types of things, and gregarious. He seemed pretty subdued compared to usual.

Can't imagine anyone being happy about it. I just wish I was confident the responses would have been the same if it were Bush or Cheney...

As I remember Cheney was hospitalized with heart problems just before Thanksgiving, 2000 when the election results were still up in the air--and all were civil.

Hmmm - quadruple. I hope his "donor" arteries are in good shape.

The surgery is pretty routine, now - but still pretty risky - I wish him well.

I don't like the guy but I also don't wish him any ill will. I hope things turn out for the best.

Besides don't they take veins from the legs of the people to replace their own? I think it is done to prevent rejection of foreign cell tissue.

Hillary on the other hand... just kidding I hope he gets better.
