I wanna see what happens if Harper's "stuff" ends up in Kansas.

There's gonna be a revolution.

Be careful, friends.

Thanks ehBeth, Husker. Tornados are still worse... you don't get a week to prepare for them.

I've been through both. I have to disagree. Tornado's are quick, little rain, and do not cover wide area as a hurricane does.. After Fran I swore I would never stay in NC again for a hurricane.

Hey Panzade, just wondered if you was singin' "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow" by the Foggy Bottom Boys. That might help get you through the next few days. I loved O Brother Where Art Thou! Need to get the soundtrack, unless you want to record it for me. Smile

So what do employers say - get out of town? See you??
do they pay you? or you have to wait until it's over and that kind of thing?

First time 2 Cat 4 storms ever hit us in the same year... They are now saying this one is bigger than Andrew and may strengthen to a Cat 5 before impact. A Category 4 storm has winds of 131-155 mph (201-249 kph) and this one already has gusts up to 175. Shocked Am I ever glad I sold my boat!

Hurricanes spawn tornadoes...bad ones. Some say tornadoes did much of the damage during Andrew.

FACT and FACT. Andrew wasn't really big enough to have a huge storm surge (super high tide for non cane people). Storm surges are the real killers. Outside, they pull people out to sea. Inside, they drown them like rats. Yet, you still have the occasional idiot that's refusing to even put the shutters on his waterside mobile home, let alone leave the death trap. Idiots.

A little research I thought I'd share.

Andrew: was a bad Cat 4 storm that reached Cat 5 status just as it reached land... I think everyone knows what it did to homestead. No one knows how many bodies really got bagged. Could be urban legend but they say there were a lot of illegals drowned and dissappeared that the State didn't want to admit to for tourism purposes.
Andrew:

Francis: is our current storm. Look how much smaller Florida appears in this picture and you will see how much bigger Francis is than Andrew. Hopefully, Francis won't develop that perfect eye (sign of impending doom  ).
Francis:

Floyd: took a sharp right hand turn and went up North and wreaked havoc on our neighbors... luckily it kind of grazed along the coast instead of smacking it directly. Even so, it was one of the worst in history. Floyd was about the biggest Cat 5 storm imaginable when this picture was taken. Had it not turned; it would have dug trenches through barrier islands and drown people on the mainland by the thousands. The destruction would have been unprecedented. At least we're not looking at thisÂ… This one was the finger of God.
Again, look how much smaller Florida looks in this picture compared to the previous two storms. Shocked

OBill, when was Floyd? The names are beginning to swim together for me. (That is, the names of the ones I didn't personally survive. Shocked )

1999. I remember being shocked because even the weather man looked frightened. Floyd was the one who's feeder bands at one point stretched the entire East Coast of the US. This might jar your memory:

Ain't no joke, that's for sure. Over a million people now ordered to evacuate... and so far it's still a beautiful day. I hope people are paying attention.
