The only high ground in Florida is Mt Trashmore, a land fill.

I had always thought that the I-4 bridge over the St. Francis River was the highest elevation in the state. That's probably a slowly-moving parking lot right now, though, huh?

First wave of feeder bands just blew over. Knocked out my internet connection briefly. The intercoastal looks like the ocean. It really is pretty.

Don't worry ehBeth. The eye is still 24 hours away, and they have NEVER predicted where one will land that far out.

Good grief. Yawl are so fast. Mount Trashmore is in Va. Beach...highest point here on the ocean is Painter's Hill. It ain't no hill at all.

The bridges are high, but you can't camp out there..lol

Hey all.

i know Letty , we borry the name down here.

Set, seems the traffic has eased thank goodness. Mamma has pulled over at a rest stop near Tallahassee for some much needed rest. Mind you she left at 2 pm yesterday. Could've made better time in a Conestoga wagon.

Well, I feel soooooo much better now. The high school is beautiful and very spacious. Everyone was very friendly and knew folks that I knew still working for the system. They will serve food in the cafeteria and nothing costs one cent (course, I pay taxes, ya know). The library is awesome. The custodian could easily be the principal, but he's far too nice and intelligent. Smile

Only thing is, I had to give them next of kin, so I gave them you folks.

Miss Frances, you can't get through the fence without a pass.

It is quiet here, and the only sound is a wolf howling at the wind. Hold on, I believe that's a wild dog.

I'm gladdened MsLet
Down here the feeder bands have started and I'm looking for the cats. Don't know wether to park the truck in the garage or park it outside the garage door to bolster its flimsiness.

Glad to hear you feel much better Letty. It's nice that you have a library. I imagine it would be nice to get lost in a book...for just a little while.

Are you guys having to pull out?

Where will you go?

Jesus, what a time.

We have a little place we go on Anna Maria Island (Gulf Coast), what we hear from there is that they missed most of Charlie but this time they are packing up and waiting to see what's what.

Sadly, my sister-in-law had to leave her dogs behind; she couldn't take them with her. She left them plenty of water and hopes she can get right back to them after the storm.

That's just Panzade.

Panz we got about another 2 hours of sunshine left, then the rain begins. I'm heading outside to enjoy it. Later.

Quick feel-good story... Kodiak Construction had a lot of excess building materials and when they heard about the shortage of plywood they decided to give away their entire stock of thousands of sheets. people.

Beth, I'm counting on you to keep us informed, OK?

Glad to hear that the storm may be weakening. Sending weak thoughts... no, no, sending strong thoughts that the storm will weaken.

Letty -- A wild dog - you're kidding, right? Warm thoughts and I'm glad there is a library.... what about a piano?

Husker, No, my friend. I'm at home, but I just checked in at the school in advance until I could ascertain what that fickle woman out there is going to do. I'm glad you are better and it's business as usual. <smile>

Good news all around!
That wild dog howling was me trying to get the last dumb kat inside. Caught that Kodiak story...someone there knows how to advertise.

Sending my best wishes and "please stay safe" thoughts to all you Floridians. You guys sure have a lot of courage.

And Letty, if you don't get that NYT Puzzle, don't be concerned. Just PM me and I'll PM the clues back to you. It will be one of those diagramless puzzles. Won't that be fun.

Good luck to all.

For those of you who are hurricane afficionados, I just came across an interesting site in my travels, while surfing the net:

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/pastcost.shtml

There are links to all sorts of other interesting hurricane stuff here.
