Almost. It's a miata. Laughing

Definitely concentrate your worries on Panzade. He's a hellofalot closer to the ocean than that big lake is, btw. Plus, that lake even fed a Hurricane once. It was a horrific disaster.

Sure it was...second worst death toll...but they built these huge berm walls that supposedly will hold back the lake. I'm supposed to go out there tomorrow...ain't

Hi Hiyall. I your friend's daughter is in CBS construction with shutters. And your Daytona friend is hardly off the hook either. These things frequently take a sharp right just before impact. They can predict, but they can't know.

I just read this whole thread, right though ...Phew! Very, very frightening stuff!
But everyone seems to be OK. A blessed relief.

OK Bill..just got a call from mamma..they are stuck in Orlando...been on the road for 8 hours. It's ridiculous. Told her to turn around and come back. Better to face the hurricane at home than out on the Turnpike!

MsOlga -- So far so good, but they don't expect it to hit until tomorrow morning... about fifteen hours from now. All this has been days of stomach-churning worry.

(Which, Panzade, is one of the good things about earthquakes. There is no warning except for a big roar and then BOOM.)

Yikes... your wife and kids will need how many hours to get back home? What kind of car?

There's no traffic going South so two hours will fnd them home...it's amazing that the highway system in this state cannot handle storm traffic.

Hello, Piffka!

Just thinking: I'd find it difficult to live in a place where this sort of thing happens so often! I'd be too scared to stay there! You Florida folk must really love the place!

Miss Olga, in my experience of Florida, the day-to-day weather is very drunk out . . . i suspect they stay because they can't find their way to anywhere else . . .

Oopsie... well, that's good. More time to get ready.

I really feel for your wife, Panzade. It must have been a difficult drive out, a hard decision to make, and lots of worry all along the way. Big hugs to her, she's going to need some TLC. (I know I'd be a basket-case!)

MsOlga -- I think Florida is pretty fabulous -- if you like beautiful beaches, sub-tropic weather and fresh citrus.

Panzade, Occum and Letty and all those in Florida, my thoughts are with you.

Your comments about the roads in Florida being inadequate for emergency traffic is too true. Just before one of the hurricanes a couple of years ago, some friends of ours were planning on driving to Atlanta to stay with their daughter. They were stuck on a bridge in Jacksonville for 7 hours due to traffic trying to get out of Florida!!

What infuriates me is that they suspended the tolls on the Turnpike and now the semis have joined the parade...to save a little money...they never take the turnpike. And furthermore, they won't open the two Southbound lanes to northbound traffic...there's absolutely no one traveling South. Would you?
