I've just heard from the individual who might have gotten a good rate for folks coming to Albuquerque Fri-Sun, 23-25MAY.

The individual is on leave of absence from their work, and will be unable to get any special rates during the period. It is imperative that arrangements be made soon for a time when many hotels/motels are solidly booked. My own situation is such that I would be of little help for the next 30 days, so each of you will need to make personal arrangements. I will try to help anyone who contacts me directly via a PM, but I'm afraid the assistance will be limited.

Corazon de la Osa is in the North East Heights, in the Ridgecrest section. We are located between Wyoming and Eubank, on the Northwest corner of Osuna. If you'd like I'll send the exact address via PM.

We have sweeping views of the Sandias, city lights, and glorious sunsets. To get here from the I-25 (the assumed direction of your approach), get off at Montgomry and head east. Left on Wyoming, and right on Osuna. From the street all you will probably see is our garage and a grove of trees. Across the street is a school playground.

Does that answer your question?

I'm pretty sure Bumblebee, who lives over on the other side of the Rio, will also be attending. The folks on the following list have expressed varying degrees of interest:

cobalt -- Hopes to make a flying visit down from Colorado, where she is attending to family business.

Pdiddie -- "Will make it anytime". That was a month ago. I haven't heard anything of late.

JoannDorel -- I think she is expecting to come over, but haven't heard anything of late.

Tex-Star -- "Last two weeks of May".

Fbaezer -- "Possible, last two weeks of May. Depends on costs and travel arrangments."

ehBeth -- Expressed concern over costs, but said she hoped to make it.

Diane -- Said that it looks "possible".

Georgeob1 -- Will be attending an important gathering in Northern California about that time, and hopes to stop over for the gathering.

Maraso -- Lives in Southern NM, but has a sick wife and may not be able to travel in late May.

cicerone imposter -- First said that he would attend, and then indicated that he wouldn't visit anyone who expected that even people whose views are unpopular (specifically, the Congressman whose comments about Japanese Internment that angered c.i.) are entitled to Due Process. I don't know if he's changed his mind or not. In any case he's welcome.

Craven has been invited several times, but probably won't make it.

I think I've characterized each of those folks sentiments correctly -- if not, they can correct the record themselves. I contacted about a dozen other folks, but they all declined for one reason, or another.

It isn't necessary to get a personal invitation to this affair, but it would be nice to know in advance who is likely to attend. I'd really like to meet Timber, but understand that he's unlikely to leave his forest mansion to come down to Corazon for a few days.

Asherman, I will be able to come and Joanne said that she will also be there.

At the Florida Gathering, we all stayed in the same motel, making it much easier to make plans and car arrangements. It would be a great help if you could give us a list of motels near your house. I seem to remember that many of us mentioned that the hotel price wan't a major concern as long as it was reasonable.

I wonder if Roger needs a new hat?

Nope. I've still got the Florance of Arabia thing <shudder>. Also, several others that wouldn't pack well.

I'm thinking in terms of May 24 & 25, Saturday & Sunday, so I don't have to finagle vacation time and worry about work schedule conflicts.

Diane is right, Asherman. Names of a couple of motels in the area would be a big help.

The Best Western Executive Suites located at 4630 Pan American Freeway, NE, may well be the nearest hotel to us. A friend has stayed there, and reports that if they had to stay in a hotel/motel here again, this would be the place. The Best Western Executive Suites can be contacted at:

Best Western Executive Suites: Information and Rates

I thought they were a bit pricey, with a rack rate of $79/night. You may want to check their special offers. They have a discount for people over 55, and for folks who travel on most of the major airlines.

Howard Johnson got his start here in New Mexico, and many still prefer staying at that chain. There are two that are nearly equal in distance from Corazon. One is on Hotel Circle, and the other is located on Pan American (near the Best Western mentioned above). The rack rate is $39.60, and you may be qualified for some further discount. On line you can make reservations at:

Howard Johnson Home Page, Hotel information and reservations

There are many respectable hotels/motels located along Pan American and on San Mateo near the I-25, check the internet for your favorite. Almost as close are the hotels/motels just off the I-40 on Hotel Circle. The directions to Corazon de la Osa can be given once you find a place to stay. If you want to find us on MapQuest, our address is 8917 Osuna Rd., NE, Albuquerque, NM. Phone number available by personal message.

BTW, you don't need a personal invitation to attend the Albuquerque Gathering, but it would be nice to know if you are going to be coming.

How are we all going to meet up and recognize each other or have I missed something? We need a date, time, location, if Roger wears his beanie we i will probably recognize him. And c.i., don't forget our date at DFW on the 30th.

We'll probably just coagulate at Asherman's place.

Anyone who shows up at Corazon on Friday, May 23rd, is here for the gathering. I'm assuming the weather will be nice, and the pool will be open. We almost always have a selection of drinks in the bar, and will probably have a selection of fingerfoods available. More later, as I have to go now and take care of some electrical work.
