AUSTIN - The Austin Police Department officer who shot and killed an unarmed and naked teenager in early February was fired by Chief Art Acevedo Monday.

Officer Geoffrey Freeman’s termination comes just a few days after the autopsy report for 17-year-old David Joseph was released to the media. That report found that Joseph had two prescription drugs and marijuana in his system when he was shot and killed.

Specifically, Joseph had promethazine and benzodiazepine in his system along with marijuana.

Attorneys for Freeman previously suggested Joseph may have had superhuman strength from a drug like PCP and that Freeman feared for his life because Joseph charged at him. The autopsy report showed there was no PCP in Joseph's system.

This is my home town. And this kind of thing encapsulates everything I love about Austin.
The boy was shot, which was terrible. But the officer wasn't given paid vacation or paid to surf a desk. He went through an investigation, which found that his story and evidence from reality don't jive, and the cop was actually fired because his actions that day did not follow established policies.
The people that joke that every police shooting is going to bring about riots misses the point entirely. As angry as we are about cops shooting unarmed young men, we're most upset about the total lack of consequences for officers that lie about what happened.

Racist's lives don't matter.

The teen was black. Alone, like most black males murdered by the hands of a white policeman.

Your brain is a one way street without any understanding about driving laws.

Sorry but black males are at many times at the risk of not reaching middle age compare to all other track groups and not due to the police but due to other blacks young males.

Until people like you can face the non-pc facts can we as a society perhaps take steps to reduce the problem and the death rate for young black males.

Until people like you realise that almost all of that is down to a lack of opportunity and institutional racism instead of something inherently wrong with black DNA you'll get nowhere. This thinking allows racists to justify their racism.

It's a lot easier to blame victims than change society.

It's also easy for the "victims" to blame society for their actions instead of taking responsibility for those actions.

They don't though, they just die. That's the difference.

Who said anything about talking to me about it, just watch the news. On any given weekend, there are reports of over 10 people being shot and injured. Add in a holiday weekend and those #'s will double. Don't take my word for it, read the news.
