@TheCobbler,
“You seem like a stingy racist bitch...”

“I see, you save your charity for white trash hillbilly goobers who have tiny brains like yours...”

Seems like you don't want to share your much vaunted "unconditional love" for those who don't agree with you.

“They may say I'm a dreamer... ”

I say you're a pretentious phony.

@Finn dAbuzz,
Ahh, a stingy racist prick... you two ought to get together.

I call it the way I see it.

You can walk on my feet 'til you can walk on your own but don't walk on my face...

Unconditional love is given freely not EXPECTED or DEMANDED.

And Jesus said, "Get thee behind me Satan..."

@Lash,
Lash wrote:

There is an enormous gulf between unconditional love and doing for others. Plenty of people have donated their time, energy, money for others. That's not unconditional love - it's basic decency.

Then why aren't you a nun?

It is not my intention to be a prick myself.

But... I am not a doormat for Jesus and though I believe and try and practice unconditional love, this does not make me a pacifist target and give others a license to walk all over me.

You will find that I will vehemently defend the weak and under privileged while going berserk and throwing over the "tables of the temple", just to make a point.

I hope to not have any real delusions of my own.

I have no friends (or lobbyists) when it comes to defending what is right.

@TheCobbler,
When you gratuitously insult people (I don't include your insult of me since it was simply a return in kind) you are being a prick.

And if you find it righteous to call out the prick then so do I.

Get thee behind me Satan (you prick).

@TheCobbler,
You, and almost everyone, will always vanquish me in a Bible quote contest, but I seem to recall something like "judge not lest you be judged." Since I'm not a Christian who believes the Bible is the actual Word of God, I don't find it to be a command from the Almighty. Do you?

@Finn dAbuzz,
I said Lash "seemed"...

It was you who judged...

Apparently you don't believe in (as Lash puts it) "basic decency" either...

@Finn dAbuzz,

I got one
"Whomsoever shall choketh their chicken and spilleth its seed upon the ground shall be guilty of gross iniquity and other felonious acts. For it displeaseth me "

Book of Earl .

@farmerman,
Lol, the Bible is full of lots of ridiculous things perhaps more than the "Book of Earl".

But it is not completely devoid of all truth.

If it did not have even the slightest bit of truth it would not be the largest religion in the world with 1/3 of the world following some form of it. (include Islam and nearly 2/3 of the world adhere to some for of it)

Also over 50% of the discussions on A2k would not be centered around defending or discrediting it. (no book can be PERFECTLY wrong or right)

There is some truth in the Bible, though it pains me to say this...

Yet, is it the word of God? No...

@djjd62,
You might change your tune when you are the one who ends up on skid row...

Sad that it sometimes takes a personal crisis in someone's life before they learn to feel for others less fortunate.

@TheCobbler,
Quote:
less fortunate.

or is it less smart? maybe less prepared? Less responsible? less willing to work?

Bad luck cant be assumed. The Right is not completely wrong that those who are not willing to look after themselves should not be expecting the collective to rush in and take care of them. Help pull the wagon or starve is a OK choice to give people so far as I am concerned. In Zen we say "no work then no eat".

how do you distinguish those who are themselves unable to work.?
Are they to starve also?

@hawkeye10,
That phrase "no work then no eat" is plagiarized out of the New Testament.

I guess the biblical writer who wrote that forgot that Jesus and the disciples lived on charity too 'til he was about 30 and hung on a tree to die.

Murdered apparently by republicans...
