Rhys (AKA the Commish) has set up our Yahoo! fantasy football league. He
has already mailed out invitations to last year's managers. If you would like to
play this year, please PM me an email address and I'll have Rhys send you an
invitation. It's fun and easy to play!

@George,
Thank you, Thank you, Rhys.

I'm in for sure.

I've one preference if it will also work for all of us, which is to have quite a bit of time before the draft. I get frazzled as I actually look at stuff about all the top bunch of players, say, 300 or more, and then reject some, consider some as middling, and greatly like another bunch and then try to put them in order. This, while dealing with the mechanics of the system, can be grueling, a mix of fun and exhausting. So more time is more pleasure, for me.

Obviously people don't have to be as nutso as I am, better for their mental stability at the least, and can just go with the yahoo order of players, and automatic draft day picks. That may even be the smartest move.

I'll sign in tomorrow morning, busy in the kitchen now.
George

@ossobuco,
Once we reach critical mass, we should discuss the date of the draft as well
as the settings.

I am only in it if you need a body to make an even number of teams. Seriously. I have an internship, possibly a second one, a volunteer job that's heating up, writing group, more writing, NaNoWriMo, and another class.

I haz a tired just typing that.

Here are last year's settings.
Should we use them again this year?

Note that Yahoo! has automatically set up August 29th as draft day.
That's too soon.
What day would be best (Thursday, September 10th is the opening game)?

I'd vote for Saturday, September 5th.

In. I'll still ask if anyone is interested in a more interesting rule set this year. Our scoring is pretty limited and boring at this point.

@George,
Points-per-reception/completion and run, bonus points for really big plays (things like +2 for a 40+ yard touchdown), better defensive scoring.

My other league runs this setup:

Scoring

Passing

Passing Yards (PY) 0.04
Each Pass Completed (PC) 0.1
TD Pass (PTD) 4
40+ yard TD pass bonus (PTD40) 2
Interceptions Thrown (INT) -2
2pt Passing Conversion (2PC) 2
300-399 yard passing game (P300) 5
400+ yard passing game (P400) 5

Rushing

Rushing Yards (RY) 0.1
Rushing Attempts (RA) 0.1
TD Rush (RTD) 6
40+ yard TD rush bonus (RTD40) 2
2pt Rushing Conversion (2PR) 2
100-199 yard rushing game (RY100) 5
200+ yard rushing game (RY200) 5

Receiving
Receiving Yards (REY) 0.1
Each reception (REC) 1
TD Reception (RETD) 6
40+ yard TD rec bonus (RETD40) 2
2pt Receiving Conversion (2PRE) 2
100-199 yard receiving game (REY100) 5
200+ yard receiving game (REY200) 5

Miscellaneous

Kickoff Return TD (KRTD) 6
Punt Return TD (PRTD) 6
Fumble Recovered for TD (FTD) 6
Total Fumbles Lost (FUML) -2
Fumble Return TD (FRTD) 6

Kicking

Each PAT Made (PAT) 1
FG Made (0-39 yards) (FG0) 3
FG Made (40-49 yards) (FG40) 4
FG Made (50+ yards) (FG50) 5

Team Defense / Special Teams

Each Sack (SK) 1
Interception Return TD (INTTD) 6
Fumble Return TD (FRTD) 6
Kickoff Return TD (KRTD) 6
Punt Return TD (PRTD) 6
Blocked Punt or FG return for TD (BLKKRTD) 6
Blocked Punt, PAT or FG (BLKK) 2
Each Interception (INT) 2
Each Fumble Recovered (FR) 2
Each Safety (SF) 2
0 points allowed (PA0) 5
1-6 points allowed (PA1) 4
7-13 points allowed (PA7) 3
14-17 points allowed (PA14) 1
28-34 points allowed (PA28) -1
35-45 points allowed (PA35) -3
46+ points allowed (PA46) -5
Less than 100 total yards allowed (YA100) 5
100-199 total yards allowed (YA199) 3
200-299 total yards allowed (YA299) 2
350-399 total yards allowed (YA399) -1
400-449 total yards allowed (YA449) -3
450-499 total yards allowed (YA499) -5
500-549 total yards allowed (YA549) -6
550+ total yards allowed (YA550) -7

---

Needless to say, these scoring rules are way different and would drastically change the league, so I'm not arguing for an immediate move to this structure; rather, just wanted to start a discussion about phasing in some of the more fun ones. In particular, I like the bonuses for: 3/400 yard passing games, 1/200 yard rushing/receiving games, and the defensive rules that take yards allowed into consideration.

Cheers
Cyclo

@Cycloptichorn,
Is your other league a Yahoo! league?
I'm not sure how we would implement this in Yahoo! Fantasy Football.
Rhys and I will research it.

@George,
Nope, ESPN. Some of these settings may not be possible, or even desirable to other members of the league, but they are a lot of fun to play with.

I'll tell you right now that any bonus points give a big advantage to the 'difference-maker' players. Your WR that consistently gets 100 yds/game is worth a LOT more than the guy who gets 75. So there's an argument to be made that it introduces more volatility into 'player value' than may be desirable. But; having watched football for 35 years, it's my opinion that these guys at the end of the day are the difference between winning and losing teams over the course of the season, so I sort of feel like they SHOULD be worth more.

on the format, I'm comfy with the old but open to something new if the rest are fine with it.

@ossobuco,
Unfortunately, Cyclo's suggestions are not supported by Yahoo!
Maybe we can try ESPN next year.

@George,
Perhaps not all of them, but some - such as the .5 or 1-point PPR - most certainly are.
