@roger,
I was chatting online with Andy years ago....remember when we all chatted?

Anyway, for some reason I thought I was chatting with Gautam, not Andy.

I began gently teasing him about his sex life and whatever the hell man he had the hots for at the time.

Gautam was oddly silent.

Then he said he thought I was mistaken, he wasn't gay.

Thinking Gautam was teasing me I reiterated my many reasons for disbelieving him.

Then I finally realised it was Andy I was speaking to!

@edgarblythe,

Im just sadly reading along. I hope Andy's time with this outfit has been as great for him as it has for us.

I wish I could find some of his musings of the abuzz days. he , early-on developed a following of folks who just liked him.

@farmerman,
I remember someone having files of archived abuzz postings that they'd share now and then. Don't remember who it was but maybe they'll look for some and share them.

@Butrflynet,
It was Msolga, I think. Or Margo.

I have a disc that she sent to me. We didn't have a lot of time to copy threads when it happened - I'm not sure I even knew how back then. I think it was a cd, and who knows where I put it. Maybe it's in the little red box that still has some floppies in it, but. . . where's the red box now? It might have had a Cav food thread on it.. and might have had some digression thread material.

@ossobuco,
I have some saved Abuzz threads somewhere.

Mostly Digression treads and a few odd other. They're not on this computer, so I'll have to go and search...

you could always just pick someone from up the page, or up the thread to reply to - it'll make for entertaining reading when/if the threading feature is enabled

it has been fun re-reading the old threads

I've got a few of the old abuzz rainforest threads safely hidden Embarrassed somewhere on this computer - and someone at seattlebuzz saved almost all of the abuzz archives - now if I could just remember how to access them.

Just ignore djjd.

Once upon a time (late 1990s, to be precise) in a galaxy far away (NYC and Boston, mostly) there was a website/message board somewhat similar to what today is A2K. It was called Abuzz and was owned and operated by the New York Times and, later, the Boston Globe. Many, many of the old-timers on A2k first encountered each other on Abuzz. When it became known that the powers that be (NYTime Digital and Boston.com) were going to shut Abuzz down, some Abuzzers decided to start their own site. It was to be called Able2Know. The moving forces behind this movement were Robert Gentel (then known as Craven deKere) as the techie webmaster and Jespah for control of the content. Both had been active on Abuzz. Many Abuzzers joined the new site imediately. This was the genesis of A2K.

Today, if you mention Abuzz, people like Frank Apisa and ehBeth and farmerman and yours truly and too many others to mention by name get a tear in their eye.

Come to think of it, djjd isn't far off in that Atlantis-like description.

@Butrflynet,
Actually, between Abuzz and Able2Know, there was ravensrealm, created by the same Craven deKere. The format wasn't adequate to his developing skills, so he set up A2K. It did have a good chat site, though.

@Butrflynet,
Yup - I've got a few rainforest threads saved from Abuzz and one of boomer's News of the World threads. They're in a mysterious format that I have to sort out.

Seattlebuzz's manager, Andrew, had/has all of Abuzz saved. Too bad Seattlebuzz seems to have disappeared. I wonder if anyone is still in touch with Andrew.

@ehBeth,
I had trouble figuring out how to use Raven's Realm (duh) but I was impatient and was distracted up the wazoo. Do you remember the timing of Raven's Realm? Didn't we have a chat thing on a2k for a while? I remember talking to Hebba, a sculptor in the Netherlands, and some other people, and enjoying it.
