Hello,
B. and I are visiting Thomasville, GA and Tallahassee, Fl. We decided to see the FSU Seminoles play basketball. Presently, I am typing at the public library in T'ville. By the way, the cheapest deal on a car at the airport was $20; did anyone find a better deal.
If this event works out, do doubt, do you envision a yearly event or marching onto other cities in the states?

Mapleleaf, The best deal on rentals is to find something in town, and not the airport where car rental companies must pay extra taxes that increase their cost. c.i.

What do you mean, c.i.? Show up with out reservations and catch as catch can? I haven't made any deals yet, but $20.00 sounds good, unless there is a heavy mileage charge.

I would only suggest he reconfirm that rate. Sounds like he's renting a bike. c.l.

I better start shopping for a car tonight.
Thanks for the clue, Beth. When Diane starts thinking about shopping, I'll just holler "Surf's up."

roger, I should add that large cities usually have local car rental places by the hundreds. For example, when I visited Atlanta some years ago, I tried to reserve a car on the internet with Hertz, Avis, and the others with booths at the airport. Their prices were a minimum of 25 percent more than what I could find in town. Better than that, I found a rental for a Toyota Camry for one week at $125. A similar rental at any of the national car rentals would have cost at least double that. c.i.

Roger, or anyone else who wants to rent a car in town, please, please don't rent at the airport if you don't have to! And, you don't have to because Rae or myself can fetch you from the airport, okay? Don't spend unnecessary dollars, there's always a better way to spend it.
c.i. is right, renting at the airport is a big joke!

Mapleleaf, I think it's a neat idea if we decide to have a yearly reunion, or a 6 month one for those who live close together!

I'll second that. Picking up from the airport is not a problem.

Re the Sunblock, I can't stress the importance of it enough.
A few years ago my aunt came from Boston, she is very fair skinned, typical Irish complexion. We were standing around chatting in the pool, she got the absolute worst sunburn on her feet (of all places) because the sun was reflecting on the tops of her feet, and she didn't feel a thing, until later.
That spoiled the rest of her week, she couldn't walk, her feet were so swollen and sore.
So be careful, my fair haired friends! It doesn't take long down here.

I've never used sunblock myself, I start the week with SF8 or 10, and then I lower the SF until I'm using "grilloil", usually gets me a nice tan! I'm the kind that's using tan for protection...
The feet, the feet, yep them extremities tend to burn very easily! Burned my feet just lightly once, that was a new experience, lemme tell ya!
Are we there yet?

I have told this story before (on Abuzz), so ignore if you have heard it.
I knew a woman who lived in NY, and had gone to Florida on vacation. One day she was sunbathing by her hotel's pool. She must have fallen asleep. A man shook her and said, "Don't worry, the ambulance is coming". She had no idea of what the man was talking about.
It seems that she had turned bright red, and her skin started to swell from the edema caused by the sunburn. She had 2nd degree burns all over her body, and had to be in a hospital for a few days.
I think that people who live in the northern climates have no idea about the strength of the sun in Florida. It is the end of February, and already you can get a decent tan. In early April, the sun will even be stronger.
When I was living in NY and going to Florida for vacations, a couple of times I practically had to go from the plane to the dermatologist to remove solar keratoses (pre-cancerous lesions) that I had acquired, along with my suntan!

I am starting to check my suntan lotions. I will have to get some I'm sure.
Only 30 days! Now we are making everybody really envious telling them about our vacation. Fun! Oh, I can't wait.
