He was, in my never humble opinion, one of America's greatest thinkers.

Here are some British comedians, discussing the Superhero Bibleman, angels, and why the humble banana is proof of God's attention to detail when he was busy creating everything.

Actually, in my opinion some atheists do it better than Christians.

And to give credit where credit is due...MUCH BETTER.

I was upstairs reading, and i glanced at the clock beside the bed (digital) which read: "3: 33." I knew then that the universe was sending me a message of cosmic significance . . . .

. . . i hadn't had my lunch yet.

Not me!

I am saying "I do not know."

Only theists and atheists play the "it is more likely that blah, blah, blah" game.

Tyson is a scientist. If he were here...he would eventually agree that science, logic and reason do not lead to "it is more likely there are no gods than there are gods"...and I strongly suspect he would agree that science, logic and reason do not lead to "there are no gods."

@hingehead,
I can't imagine how a man of Tyson's intellect could have penned those words, for the more we learn about science, the more conundrums we uncover. There are plenty of rational arguments against religion difficult to refute.

Only a science wannabe would post an argument that refutes itself.

Of course, one way to gain acceptance for inanity might be to type the words on a photo of a recognized genius.

@neologist,
Tyson is an extremely intelligent man...and I suspect he thinks he is bringing some humor to the issue.

But as you noted...his words refute themselves...or work as strongly against what I suppose to be his stand as against what he is fighting.

@neologist,
Spurious reasoning. Regardless of the conundrums we uncover we still know more than we did. Wisdom is admitting that you don't know. You know, like theism does.

I do enjoy your whinges about my pics. They are achieving the KPIs I set for them.

Given that scientific knowledge is inherently inductive, the best scientists can do is to keep looking and keep reporting that they haven't seen any evidence for a god yet. It would behoove the theists to present some evidence to the contrary. Not just rhetoric, but evidence.

FBM's wording is inadequate here.

It would behoove anyone asserting "there is a GOD"...or "the likelihood there is a GOD is greater than the likelihood there are no gods"...to present some substantive evidence for that assertion. Not just rhetoric, but evidence.

It also would behoove anyone asserting "there are no gods"...or "the likelihood there are no gods is greater than the likelihood there are"...to present some substantive evidence for that assertion. Not just rhetoric, but evidence.

Frankly, anyone asserting either side of that issue can't present substantive evidence because there is none. Both sides are simply sharing "beliefs" or guesses about an unknown.
