There is a difference between "are there gods in people's minds"...and "are there gods."

Are there gods in the REALITY?

(Psst...it is okay to say that you do not know.)

"The Reality" varies for different people, e.g.:

What's "the Reality" of this dress' color?

The REALITY for that dress' color is that it seems different for different people.

There is the possibility that the REALITY of existence is that it seems different for different people...but even if that is so...the REALITY is what IS.

Are there any gods, Blue?

(Same hint: You do not know.)

Nah!
Perception may differ.
But you can't really alter the definition of 'is'.

@neologist,
I've seen people altering "is" all the time.

They say it is, when it is not and especially when there is no "is" there..

@neologist,
I agree, Neo. Perceptions of REALITY may differ...but whatever is...IS.

I'm still waiting for Blue to answer the question: Is there a god?

Hocus pocus really doesn't change "is"

@neologist,
Some theists and other agnostics pretend to know what a given atheist thinks.

They even pretend that his atheism is a belief system.

No amount of explanation can apparently change that.

But, as far as I'm concerned, my atheism means:

- I've no need for a god.

- I've no use for a god.

- I don't care if there is a god or not.

Simply don't call it a belief that there aren't any gods.

Dogs, however, are another matter..

The reality is that the dress' color is entirely a matter of perception.

So, in regard to it's color, what is it?

@InfraBlue,
It is...what it IS, Blue.

It is...what it IS.

Now if you want to ask about perceptions of what it IS...that is a different thing entirely.

Is that what you are asking?

Are you asking about perceptions of what it is?

@neologist,
"It is what it is" has to be one of my least favorite colloquial trends. The term has been around for a while, but once the corporate world started using it, oh man.. Why not just nut up and say you're dismissing something, or, "whatever".

More specific to corporate jargon, my least favorite expression for trying to appear in the know is "reach out to...". Sometimes you can just say call. Honorable mentions: problems are "opportunities"; and when management–or "leadership", wants something, it's "we need to come up with a plan". They have no intention of planning anything

@InfraBlue,
My friend Sylvia, who is blind, would say color is irrelevant.

@thack45,
Perhaps you can credit Bill Clinton for focusing our attention on 'is'.
I don't know, really.
He done what he done
And Clintons are what Clintons are.

@neologist,
However, saying atheism is a belief system when there is no is, what you call it?

Altering what is is.

I think it's time the question is asked: can Sylvia's blindness exist?

@thack45,

The term here is used differently, Thack. I used it when there was a discussion about whether or not the Ultimate REALITY is subjective or objective.

I say it HAS TO BE objective…and cannot be subjective.

Even if everyone has his/her own reality (a subjective reality)…then the objective REALITY is that it is subjective.

There is no getting away from it being objective.

Anyway…at that time, I mentioned that I do not know what the true nature of the REALITY of existence is…BUT WHATEVER IT IS…IT IS. (Even if it is what I mentioned in the paragraph above.)

There is nothing trite about the usage. It is a tautological way of saying that REALITY is objective. It (the REALITY) IS…whatever it IS.

Sorry it bothers you, but frankly, it seems almost essential to defending the position "REALITY is objective."
