Good point, and a bit disturbing.
The people who call themselves supporters of Trump, Carson and Cruz (to name 3 of the most unhinged, in my opinion) are some scary mofos. I heard a woman interviewed on XM radio who was attending an event where Cruz was speaking. She was asked why she supported Cruz, and she said "Because he's a righteous man of God who will save us from what that Obama has done to our country!!" Asked what specific things Obama has done that Cruz would save us from, she said "Taking away all our guns, robbing us with that Obamacare, and making a deal with Satan himself with that Iran deal! Isn't that enough?!!" Thoroughly nonplussed, the interviewer mumbled something in response about those things not being true.
I'm sure I was driving down the highway with my mouth hanging wide open for a couple miles, before I caught myself. Just - Damn.
@snood,
Gotta admit, I'm not sure I'm in favor with deals with Satan either. Might make a difference depending on the terms.
@roger,
Cripes, while you're agreeing in concept with the drooling imbecile who said that, do you think - in context with the other jibber jabber she said - that she actually has some grasp of what the reality of the Iran deal is? She just threw it in the mix with the endless list of things the evil Kenyan socialist Muslim Obama did. Anyway, we don't call Iran or the Middle East Satan, that's what they call US.
@snood,
I recognize the interviewee for what she is. You can be very literal minded when it suits your purpose.
@coldjoint,
Big difference? We won. You didn't, and won't the next time either.

If that's a prediction about the 2016 election, the Republicans are virtually guaranteed to win in 2016. The 2013 gun control debacle practically guarantees it.

That's so sweet! It's good to believe in something. You keep holding onto that, even as the batshit crazy GOP ship goes up in flames and sinks. It's so brave of you. I'm a little verklempft.
@oralloy,
You guys won the gun debate and reasonable people who want sane gun control restrictions lost. Because of stupid statements like this mainly.
Quote:NRA News Commentary: School Shootings Happen Because Kids Don't "Respect" Firearms
A new commentary video produced by the National Rifle Association's (NRA) NRA News suggests that school shootings occur because children do not "respect" firearms or know how to handle them safely.
The claim came during the September 23 episode of the NRA News' series, Defending Our America, which brings together conservative commentators to participate in a roundtable discussion in each episode. Defending Our America has been heavily promoted by the NRA as part of the "new" NRA News, which launched on September 8. Other NRA News shows include talk radio show Cam & Company, a web series aimed at millennials called Noir, and Frontlines, a military-themed show that recently promoted the paranoid idea that North Korea could use a satellite to launch an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack on America. Defending Our America is sponsored by gun manufacturer Sig Sauer.
During the Defending Our America episode, co-host Del Wilber said, "When I was growing up, part of the curriculum at high schools was firearm safety and marksmanship. And we didn't have 'Columbines' or 'Newtowns' because kids were taught to respect firearms, they were taught how to handle them safely and taught what their purpose was for, and that's been long gone."
The perpetrator in the Newtown, CT school shooting was highly-trained in the use of firearms and frequented shooting ranges. Authorities who investigated the killing of 20 children and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary school found an NRA certificate bearing the gunman's name as well as an NRA firearm training manual in his house.

Speaking of gun control - why don't we witness the prosecutions of people who are selling guns to the people who are perpetrating these mass murders?
The Charleston church murder had a prior, right? That crazy kid who shot up the elementary school had a mental health diagnosis. Were charges brought?
(haha. Ok, someone was speaking of it earlier in the thread...)
@Lash,
Unless gun sellers are breaking the laws on the books, we can't prosecute them. It would be like prosecuting a car dealer of a person who used the car to kill someone. However, there are so many ways to get around the laws that it is basically useless imo. We really need gun control reform but as it is it will never happen.
I am not sure what happened with the guy who shot up the members of the Charleston church, if he is still alive I am sure he is being prosecuted. Will have to look it up.
@revelette2,
Revel, I think you misunderstood me. There ARE laws on the books that require background checks for gun buyers.
Many of these mass murderers either have a mental illness diagnosis or a prior run in with the law. They are not supposed to be sold guns - yet they were.
I don't know why the stores who sold to these people haven't been brought up on charges and written about in the media.

It's a good question. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up that they are being protected by a bunch of NRA lawyers.
