@blatham,
This is why the Europeans enjoy American politics; it's about how many times a candidate has married instead of the important issues of our day.

@cicerone imposter,
So true. All the Republican candidates want to get rid of Social Security and Medicare in their present form, and you barely hear a peep about it.

Not just American politics. A year ago my daughter was staying in Matera, Italy and on Christmas day, a group of about six young Italians living nearby invited her to a christmas meal. Oddly, only two spoke English (southern Italy). Even so, they all knew about Toronto mayor, Rob Ford.

@blatham,
Why Rob Ford of Toronto?

Donald Trump speaks at Liberty University. Which is just entirely perverse from any and every angle.
Quote:
“Christianity, it’s under siege,”

...Trump promised that if American Christians unified behind his candidacy, they would never again suffer the indignity of having a Sears employee wish them “happy holidays.”

“If I’m president, you’re going to see 'Merry Christmas' in department stores, believe me,” Trump said.

The mogul further argued that “the Bible is the best,”

...“In my opinion, Mr. Trump lives a life of loving and helping others … as Jesus taught in the New Testament,” Falwell said on Monday.

Please make this man your candidate, GOP. Please.

@blatham,
Jerry Falwell's education:

Wikipedia
He graduated from Brookville High School in Lynchburg, and from the then- unaccredited Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri in 1956.

@blatham,
Bernie,
It's important to avoid becoming the chief consumer of your own propaganda.

I have my own misgivings about Trump, but the fact is that he has struck resonant chords among many American voters who are a bit weary of the prescriptions for how they should live their lives (and express their opinions) coming down from the self appointed elites who presume they alone know what's best for everyone else. The country is very polarized and these are very uncertain times politically. There is a serious disquiet out there among many voters and it's not likely to be a good year for the purveyors of conventional political prognostications.

Again; Trump supporters are older, white, and the uneducated.

@cicerone imposter,
Do you really know that to be true, or is it just your uninformed presumption?

My impression is that many people imagine they are more educated and well informed than they really are. It's realtively easy to assume the other guy is more stupid than yourself. That is often not the case.

"Misgivings" you say. Wow. That's really a strong statement.

Yes, it is a bizarre political season. And Hillary will be your next president. We can talk about that in November.

Re "propaganda". Let's get a full and careful definition from you of what that is. No evasion. Do it right.

@blatham,
My "misgivings" about Trump? He's a xenophobe, a racial bigot, and wants to build a wall between the US and Mexico. He disqualified himself as president of the US.

@blatham,
It's a common enough word and you know what it means as well as do I.

Do you imagine that all you write is something beyond that?

What I said about W was that he was incurious and under-educated for the presidency. Even with his unusually privileged upbringing, he'd been out of the US only once - a visit to Mexico. He new very little about the world and he was, during his run, surrounded by handlers to prevent too many screwups when he opened his mouth (as he did to a Canadian humorist, when he stated how much respect he had for "Prime Minister Poutine").

You are not the judge of that. Perhaps you are too accustomed to dealing with easily intimidated people.

@blatham,
But, you and your party misunderestimated him and the American voter. I can easily see Trump being the next President. Wouldn't be my choice, but my choices never seem to get elected.

It's really something the way you make assertions and then simply fade and segue to something else, having provided absolutely no support for your fluffy talk. You say Obama displayed bigotry and when challenged to back that up you simply act like you don't read the post. You are quite reasonably asked to give your definition of propaganda in the context of the discussion, and your dull reply, for all intents and purposes is "You know what it means".

It's really kinda funny when it's not just a pain in the ass.
