Yeh but all the Ferraris, Lambo and this one looked like knock offs of Pontiac Fieros.

@farmerman,
And this one actually had all major parts from Citroen. (That's why it's not only cheap but cheap to get repaired as well.)

Look what's in the news today in Michigan:

Associated Press wrote:
A sheriff's office in northern Michigan is auctioning some rare muscle: a 1969 Plymouth GTX convertible.
Leelanau County Undersheriff Steve Morgan says the car probably was stored for decades. The odometer shows less than 21,000 miles. The two-door GTX is known as a muscle car for its powerful engine.
The car was abandoned in a storage building that has changed hands a few times, northwest of Traverse City. Morgan says investigators searched the vehicle's identification number but couldn't find an owner.
The car will be sold as-is to the highest bidder.

The article doesn't say what kind of engine is under the hood though.

@oralloy,
Well, if what's under the hood ain't a premium petrol powered pachyderm pavement pounder, I wouldn't want it.

@Leadfoot,
A numbers-matching Hemi would be nice.

@oralloy,
I just went to the auction page. It's up to $48,200 already. I wouldn't mind winning the lottery in the next week or so.

Still zero information on the type of engine. The auction just says "it is unknown if the engine is in running condition".

However, the 4 barrel 440 was standard on the 69 GTX, so if it's not a Hemi it's at least some form of a 440.

It seems that in 1969 they made 690 GTX convertibles with some form of a 440 engine, and 11 GTX convertibles with a Hemi. I'm going to guess that this car is one of the ones with a 440.

This flyer has pictures of the engine, but I don't have the expertise to ID the engine from the pictures:

I submitted the link to Internet Archive in case the original flyer disappears:

@oralloy,
its probably an old Peugeot, the birth mom of the hemi.

@farmerman,
It's either a Hemi or a 440. Those were the only choices available for a '69 GTX.

The auction is up to $56,100.

@oralloy,
never was a mopar fan. More of a McLaren or Porsche forced air.
Im gonna watch and love it as electric motors wipe up these fat old "muscle tanks". I see the Maple Grove Dragway has created entire new classes involving the electric toaster division

@farmerman,
The 1990s McLaren F1 was the first car to match the performance of a 1960s L71/89/88 Corvette, ZL1 Camaro, or MOPAR with a Hemi.

The 2000s Porsche Carrera GT was the second car to match the performance of a 1960s L71/89/88 Corvette, ZL1 Camaro, or MOPAR with a Hemi.

It took them awhile to catch up.

Modern cars are indeed cool. But pioneering antiques are pretty awesome too.

International Engine of the Year awards are out for 2019.

Instead of having classes based on displacement, they now have classes based on metric horsepower.

The best performance engine is (again) Ferrari's 3.9 liter twin turbo:
https://www.ukimediaevents.com/engineoftheyear/results.php?id=131

The best engine in the new category of "greater than 650 metric horsepower" is Ferrari's 3.9 liter twin turbo:
https://www.ukimediaevents.com/engineoftheyear/results.php?id=125

Remember to click over to the "review" tab on each page.

Second place in both of those categories is Ferrari's naturally aspirated 6.5 liter engine.

For those of us who can't afford a Ferrari, the Wards 10 Best Engines list for 2019 has been out for awhile now, and the Bullitt edition Mustang made the list:
https://www.wardsauto.com/2019-10-best-engines/2019-winner-ford-mustang-gtbullitt-50l-dohc-v-8

The Dodge Challenger Hellcat was nominated but didn't make the list.

That's the whole deal. What is really cool/weird/fuckedup is the fact that our dream cars are in fact - antiques. Then it occurred to me that my new 2018 car is really the same as the antique that made me a performance car enthusiast. People say the pony car was born with the ford Mustang but it was actually a few years earlier with the Falcon Sprint, the lightest, cheapest Ford with the 260 V8 shoehorned into it. As a kid I swapped rides for an hour with a guy that owned one.

I'm convinced the M240 is the spiritual successor to the Sprint.
OK, the interior is a little nicer.

@oralloy,
I see the B58 made the ten best list. So maybe it wasn't rigged after all Smile

The Bullet engine does look pretty impressive when I look at the details. I mean holy ****, sprayed in cylinder linings.

@Leadfoot,
That WAS a joke yes??

I was always wondering when would the next generation battery tech yield enough sustainable power for a real pickemup (like a Ram or a Ford F250).
